Mumbai, Jan 5 (Ians) Most recently seen in the streaming film ‘Kho Gaye Hum Kahan’ with Ananya Panday and Siddhanth Chaturvedi, Adarsh Gourav has quite a crowded calendar in the year ahead and he talked about it on the sidelines of an event here.

We have Indian Match Making, a reality television show on Netflix that markets marriage as an institution everyone should aspire to be in. This show was primarily made to point out the mindset of the Indians in their country and the diaspora living abroad, desperately wanting to be in touch with their culture and legacy. It paints only the happy picture of two families coming together in the name of holy matrimony. Then we have Zoya Akhtar and Reema Kagti’s Made in Heaven, which shows the ugly face of weddings and subsequent marriages. The show is as real as it gets. These are two opposite ends of the spectrums about one institution based on which the society of our country thrives.
Tanuja Chandra’s latest documentary, Wedding.Con, produced along with BBC India, talks about the horrors of marriages that are being initiated via matrimonial websites. Women are conned...

As Arjun Varain Singh’s Kho Gaye Hum Kahan approaches its climax, Imaad Ali (Siddhant Chaturvedi), a stand-up comedian, discloses a poignant reality about his life to his open mic audience, a bitter reality that he has concealed from both his friends, Ahana (Ananya Panday), and Neil (Adarsh Gourav). The revelation is so touching that it is challenging to hold back tears. However, I hoped the film would feature more of such moments, allowing us to fully immerse ourselves in the challenges faced by the three close friends who are in their twenties throughout the narrative. No doubt there are ample genuine moments that weave a poignant tale mirroring the trials and tribulations of the millennials attempting to find their footing in a world driven by digital validation. Yet amid their uncertainties and yearnings, a subtle artificiality lingers like a thin veil, preventing us from plunging into the characters’ lives...

Zoya Akhtar, wearing the hat of co-writer and co-producer of ‘Kho Gaye Hum Kahan’, has said that all the three principal actors Ananya Panday, Adarsh Gourav and Siddhant Chaturvedi have nailed their performancens in the film.
In a conversation with the media, Zoya she opened up on the performances of the actors and what made her choose Arjun Varain as the film’s director.
“The characters required the actors to be vulnerable,” explained Zoya. “Ananya, Siddhant and Adarsh are too good and real in the film. There was a feeling of being not good enough that had to come out from their roles and each one of them was able to do it in a naked, vulnerable way.”
Talking about Arjun’s direction, Zoya said, “When one does not have a body of work and wants to be a director, one needs to have a voice and a clear perspective.

Kho Gaye Hum Kahan could be loosely translated to ‘Where have we gotten ourselves lost’. The title of the movie is an ideal ode to a generation that seems to have lost a sense of purpose, as stated by one of the characters in the movie. Arjun Varain Singh’s Netflix film explore the lives of three best friends living in the bustling city of Mumbai who are going through a crisis of their own and resort to social media for some temporary relief. Excel Entertainment and Tiger Baby Films have released slice-of-life and coming-of-age dramas that leave a lasting impression on the audience. Lakshya, Rock On, Gully Boy, and Eternally Confused and Eager for Love are some examples of the kind of content these two production houses run by Farhan Akhtar, Ritesh Sidhwani, Zoya Akhtar, and Reema Kagti have put out. Adarsh Gourav, who’s awaiting the release of his next film ‘Kho Gaye Hum Kahan’, a Netflix year ender, has said that his resolution for the year 2024 is to channelise his anger in the right direction.
Much appreciated for the way he essayed his character in ‘The White Tiger’, the actor said, “I want to channelise my anger in the right way. I know it is a natural emotion to have but it is self-destructive. I want to channelise it effectively.”
Moving on to how far he could relate to his character Neil from the film, he said, “I genuinely feel Arjun, Nandini, Karan and Zoya, when they cast us, saw the essence of each of the characters that the three of us are playing in the film.
“I instantly related to Neil’s feeling of inadequacy and insecurity — the feeling of financial insecurity in the midst of the people he is surrounded by.

The Archies (Netflix)
There is something to be said about the sense of youthful freedom that Zoya Akhtar’s spin on the Archies comicbooks brings on screen. This is no Gully Boy. And these kids are a far cry from the Mumbai chawls of Gully Boy and the wealthy cruisers of Dil Dhadkne Do. The newcomers, all ready to take off, appear invested in the characters they play.
The characters especially Archie(Agastya Anand), Veronica(Suhana Khan) and Veronica(Khushi Kapoor) retain their core of incorruptible effervescence .And yes Reggie(Vedang Raina) remains vain but kind.
Archies reflects that youthful vibrant part of our past which we left behind as a world-weariness whipped us into conformity. The somber subliminal statement on ecological preservation never overpowers the sheer vibrancy of the youthful brigade.

Zoya Akhtar is no stranger to contradiction.
The Indian writer, producer, and director grew up in a film family, the daughter of poet and lyricist Javed Akhtar and child star-turned screenwriter Honey Irani. She grew up surrounded by the arts and was poised to enter the Hindi film industry — but when the time came to make her first feature, it took years.
“It took me a really long time to get a movie made in India, and I’m from the industry, so I had access to everybody,” Akhtar told IndieWire in New York City. “It was because I wanted to make a film like ‘Luck by Chance.’ It wasn’t the norm. People weren’t doing ensembles at that time. People weren’t gray as characters, male actors didn’t wanna play a character that was gray. They didn’t get the irony of the film, in a sense.

When Zoya Akhtar was approached some years ago by Graphic India to see if she was interested in adapting American comic The Phantom, her first question was whether the Archies comics were available for adaptation.
Like many Indians of her generation, she had been an avid reader of the comics as a child: “I remember cycling to the library to get the double digest, then would come back home and nobody could get a word out of me, I was just reading that comic,” Akhtar tells Deadline.
She says the appeal of the comics is that they were a portal into the West at a time when India was still not totally liberalized and there was no cable and satellite TV to provide a window into the wider world. “It showed us everything about Western culture – how people dressed, what they were listening to, what food they were eating, so...

Filmmakers Zoya Akhtar and Reema Kagti are the creative powerhouses who have captivated the audience with their immersive storytelling over the years. They may not be a director duo in conventional sense but they know how to go about a story and divide the responsibilities everytime they work on a project.
Be it ‘Made In Heaven’, ‘Gully Boy’, ‘Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara’, ‘Dil Dhadakane Do’, the two have always backed each other by one of them taking over the reins as a director and the other taking the onus of writing.
They’re now coming up with another film, this time a streaming film — a live action adaptation of ‘Archie’ comics ‘The Archies’.
Zoya has directed the film and has co-written with Reema.
With the trailer of the film getting a good response from the audience, Zoya and Reema spoke with Ians about working witha bunch of newcomers, the experience...
