Inspector Luger married 34-year-old Filipino mail-order bride, Miss Perlita ("Lita") Avilar, towards the end of the "Barney Miller" series. He called her his "filly from Manilly."
In US, she did TV commercials, including for the Reggie Jackson barbecue grill and Wienerschnitzel hotdogs, for which she sang the commercial jingle.
In the 1970s, Afable, who recorded albums on the Villar label, sang in the girl group Hi-Pertensions with Norma Ledesma and Linda Magno. She had toured North America, Germany and France as a solo act.

A member of the singing Agoncillo family, when Carina was 7 years old, her aunt, Dori Villena, began taking her to Filipino radio and television stations, and Afable started appearing in soap operas and doing commercials, including one for Carnation milk.
When martial law was declared in 1972 ( President Ferdinand E. Marcos signed Proclamation No. 1081 on September 21, 1972, placing the Philippines under Martial Law ), shutting down television production and curtailing live musical performances, Afable's career waned. She emigrated to the United States. There she appeared in three episodes of the American police sitcom Barney Miller.
Since her acting career ended, she has worked outside the industry, including for Anthem-Blue Cross.
