Being an avid fan of “old school” horror, I try to keep an open mind to the newer films, even the “sub-genres”. One of those is the “found footage” chiller that probably established itself with its biggest hit The Blair Witch Project. It opened the floodgates for jittery, shakey phony home video slightly “tweaked” via software trickery. The multiplexes are so bombarded that I almost dread a new one. Oh, but an Aussie filmmaking duo has come up with a new “twist’ that keys right into another bit of nostalgia: classic TV not from the “golden age’ of the 50s, but the often “schlocky” stuff of the 70s. Plus it’s not from daytime or prime time (8 to 11 Pm Est). I mean what kid 47 years ago wouldn’t try to sneak downstairs to the massive 19-inch console TV, sit close to the screen so you can keep the volume low...

Starring MCU and DC Universe alumni David Dastmalchian and Laura Gordon (Undertow), the upcoming horror flick Late Night with the Devil has just released its first official clip from the movie. Directed and written by Colin and Cameron Cairnes, Late Night with the Devil is an upcoming found footage horror film that was initially shown during the South by Southwest Film Festival (SXSW) on 10 March 2023, receiving very positive reviews from critics.
The film will have its theatrical premiere on March 22, 2024, while Shudder will stream it starting from April 19, 2024. The official synopsis of the movie reveals the following:
Presented in a found footage style, David Dastmalchian stars as Jack Delroy, the host of a fictional 1970s variety and late-night talk show titled Night Owls with Jack Delroy. The film purports to be derived from a rediscovered master tape of an episode from the show’s sixth season, broadcast on Halloween 1977. During this live television broadcast,...

Ahead of the acclaimed horror flick’s arrival later this month, check out the full-length trailer for Late Night With The Devil.
There are plenty of reasons why we’re fully on board for the upcoming horror flick, Late Night With The Devil.
It has a retro 1970s feel that looks incredible. It also has the wonderful David Dastmalchian (who often appears in smaller but memorable roles) getting a leading role. Then there’s the festival buzz which has been very strong indeed. Oh, and there’s also the fact that horror hasn’t really found its feet yet here in 2024.
Whilst it wasn’t terrible, Night Swim didn’t have anywhere near the same impact that Blumhouse’s traditional year-opening horror has in the past, and we feel like we’re waiting for the first truly rousing chiller of the year to get the cinematic scares up and running.

Many horror tales like "Late Night with the Devil" warn against succumbing to the bright, blinding spotlights of fame, but few mirror its structure. "Ghostwatch," "Wnuf Halloween Special," or the "Public Television of the Dead" episode of Shudder's "Creepshow" are comparison points, as Cameron and Colin Cairnes unleash evils upon a nightly talk show's most important episode. It's a period throwback to 1970s horror vibes with mentions of Vincent Price or Ed and Lorraine Warren (although they've made a comeback thanks to James Wan) that eerily recreates the experience of being on a bustling Sweeps Week set. Expect something more cable-access creepy than ratings-breaking scary, taking its time through interview segments before the devil raises all kinds of hell in front of a live studio audience.
David Dastmalchian stars as the graciously charismatic Jack Delroy, a Chicago TV host who builds a late-night following with his smash-hit show Night Owls.

Mitzi Ruhlmann.
Mitzi Ruhlmann was five years old when she saw Phillip Noyce’s Stolen Generation drama Rabbit-Proof Fence, perhaps not an ideal experience for someone so young, but it had a profound impact.
From that moment on she was determined to become an actor, not a far-fetched ambition for a girl who spent a lot of time on film and TV sets watching her dad, cinematographer Danny Ruhlmann, at work.
(Ruhlmann Senior’s credits include the features The Nugget, The Night We Called It a Day and Little Fish and, most recently, the Netflix series Messiah, created by Aussie Michael Petroni and co-directed by Kate Woods, and Jupiter’s Legacy.)
Last month the 21-year-old came home after seven months in La auditioning for numerous roles. She’ll go back in February for pilot season.

The ABC’s 2020 programming slate unveiled today is packed with new documentaries and factual series – but there is a distinct air of déjà vu in the categories of drama and comedy.
No new commissions were announced in either genre, but that does not necessarily mean there will be fewer local dramas or comedies on screen next year, despite budget cutbacks.
Referring to the $84 million funding reduction over three years on top of cuts of $50 million a year since 2014, Michael Carrington, ABC director, entertainment and specialist, tells If: “To date, ABC management has found ongoing savings that will total about $17 million a year from next year.
“We’ve looked carefully at non-content related initiatives such as renegotiating third-party contracts. Management will also undertake reviews of our property portfolio and our acquisitions expenditure to assess where other savings may be made.
“It’s good progress but more needs to be done to meet our savings target.

A new series of Underbelly has started filming for Nine and production company Screentime.
The fifth series- called Underbelly: Badness – returns to Sydney’s modern crime history, set between 2001 and 2011.
The story is based on the murder of Terry Falconer by underworld figures Anthony Perish and Andrew Perish and the team of police dedicated to bringing the Perishs to justice.
Perish, 42, was sentenced to 18 years on Friday 13 April 2012 in the Nsw Supreme Court while his brother Andrew Perish, 41, was sentenced to at least nine years, according to the Sydney Morning Herald.
Des Monaghan, executive producer of the series and executive chairman of Screentime said: “This, the fifth series of Underbelly, is the most contemporary yet and is in marked contrast to Underbelly: Razor.
