The mother of Ashley Doolittle, the rising Colorado rodeo star who was allegedly murdered last year by her ex-boyfriend, says she is remaining positive by focusing on her daughter’s memory — not her death.
Ashley “had a big smile, she was just friends with everyone,” Ann Marie Doolittle tells People. “She just made everyone feel like her friend.”
Authorities allege that Ashley, 18, was fatally shot by her 19-year-old ex-boyfriend, Tanner Flores, in June, after the pair went for a drive. Last week, he appeared before a Larimer County judge in Colorado and pleaded not guilty to charges of murder and kidnapping.

In 1966, a little show called "That Girl" starring Marlo Thomas as accident-prone Ann Marie burst onto the small screen, breaking ground as the first TV series to feature a "career woman" in the big city, seeking to make it on her own (with just a little help from boyfriend Donald Hollinger.)
That Guy behind "That Girl" is Bill Persky, a five-time Emmy Award-winning writer, director and producer for such hit TV shows as "The Dick Van Dyke Show," "The Sid Caesar Show," "The Bill Cosby Show" and "Kate & Allie."
Persky's new book "My Life Is a Situation Comedy" is a memoir that describes how the 81-year-old legend blazed a trail in television and created some of the most engaging female characters in TV history.

Television takes a lot of heat from its critics -- for its excesses, for its lack of subtlety -- but no one can deny that it is a true reflection of the ever-changing times we live in. So as part of our ongoing celebration of Women's History Month, we decided to explore the evolution of single women on TV -- a cultural time capsule that not only reveals this remarkable journey, but has also given us plenty of laughs.
I started thinking about this a few weeks ago, when I was asked to present an award at a dinner honoring Linda Lavin, the gifted actress who starred in the hit television series "Alice." As I did my research about Linda and "Alice," I began to see how they perfectly fit into the colorful -- and historic -- transformation of single female characters on television.
Those were radical times for women on TV.

Documents obtained by The Daily Beast reveal how pedophile hedge fund mogul Jeffrey Epstein escaped a hefty jail sentence despite overwhelming evidence of sex crimes with dozens of young girls. Conchita Sarnoff and Lee Aitken on how the fear and intimidation experienced by victims during pre-trial proceedings, combined with a ferocious, protracted campaign to undermine the prosecution, culminated in a set of charges that became a virtual slap on the wrist.
It is proving difficult for hedge fund manager and registered sex offender Jeffrey Epstein to avoid the glare of media scrutiny – British tabloids most recently cried foul over the shabby royal comportment of Prince Andrew in agreeing to be the guest of an acknowledged pedophile. When we released our list of the top 100 female TV characters of all time, we knew there were egregious omissions, some which pained individual TV Squad editors personally.
We spent many, many hours debating who should go on the list, where various characters should rank and who should be named No. 1. Tears were shed, blood nearly was and longstanding collegial relations threatened to turn rancorous.
Readers often ask us how we came up with lists like these, and honestly, it's more of an art, not a science. We wish there was a formula, but for the top 100 women list, we considered many factors: timelessness, iconicity, cultural impact, popularity, uniqueness. We also sought to represent different genres, time periods, professions and ages. Soap characters, young girl characters and characters from British shows were all excluded (the first two groups will get their own sidebar lists!). And at the end of the day,...

New York City has been used almost like a veteran character actor playing a wide variety of roles in different motion pictures. In many films it’s a menacing maze of mean streets as in Death Wish, Taxi Driver, and of course Mean Streets. In other films it’s a beaming mecca to young working girls with big ambitions like,uh, Working Girl and the new comedy produced by J.J. Abrams, Morning Glory (not a remake of Katherine Hepburn’s first Oscar winner). Director Roger Michell gives the Big Apple a shiny polish for this workplace romantic comedy.
