Paul Giamatti is set to join Stephen Colbert for an evening of conversation as part of the second annual North to Shore Festival in New Jersey this June.
The event, set for June 29 at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark, will raise money for Montclair Film, the New Jersey based arts organization with which Colbert has long been involved, which runs the Montclair Film Festival.

In case we needed yet one more reminder that the late-night wars of old have long since passed the Armistice stage, ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel is set to welcome NBC’s Seth Meyers to his late-night program tonight.
While it’ll be Meyers’ first visit to Jimmy Kimmel Live!, by now the two late-night hosts are well-acquainted. Together they were two-fifths of last year’s Strike Force Five podcast, where they helped raise funds for their staff during the WGA strike.
Separately, the two hosts have also both released children’s books in recent years, memorably joining forces to help promote each others books.
Meyers, who’s on a two week break from Late Night, has plenty of projects to promote beyond his own show.
He recently produced the Peacock documentary Good One: A Show About Jokes, which follows follows comedian Mike Birbiglia on the road as he builds a new comedy set.

John Oliver took a left turn on Last Week Tonight and imagined a scenario where Stanley Tucci would be the host of the HBO late-night show.
While discussing Medicaid and everything wrong with the system, Oliver said the purpose of the show was not to make viewers feel good, otherwise it would be hosted by Stanley Tucci.
“If this show was supposed to make you feel good, it wouldn’t be hosted by me, it would be hosted by Stanley Tucci,” Oliver said as his reason for discussing hard topics affecting American citizens. “Can you imagine? You’d be watching an impossibly horny 30-minute deep dive on negronis right now.”
He continued, “That’s a better show. I wish this were that show. You wish this were that show. But guys, I’m sorry. It just isn’t.”

And the award for best writing in a comedy/variety talk series goes to… Last Week Tonight With John Oliver.
The WGA Awards were handed out late Sunday and, in an announcement that likely surprised absolutely no one in the crowd, Last Week Tonight was recognized—yet again—for best writing in a Comedy/Variety Talk Series.
A total of 15 writers shared in the accolade. In addition to Oliver himself, senior writers Daniel O’Brien, Owen Parsons, Charlie Redd, Joanna Rothkopf, and Seena Vali and writers Johnathan Appel, Ali Barthwell, Tim Carvell, Liz Hynes, Ryan Ken, Mark Kramer, Sofia Manfredi, Taylor Kay Phillips, and Chrissy Shackelford all share the award.
This marks the second year in a row that Oliver and company have taken home the big prize, and the seventh time the WGA has recognized their excellence overall.

The David Hemingson-scripted Alexander Payne dramedy The Holdovers and Cord Jefferson’s American Fiction were the big film winners at the strike-delayed 2024 Writers Guild Awards, which were handed out Sunday in Los Angeles and New York.
Jefferson — who also was honored with the WGA West’s Paul Selvin Award — followed his Oscar win for Adapted Screenplay as the WGA’s weird, wild and elongated Awards season wrapped with simultaneous ceremonies on both coasts. Hemingson scored a modicum of revenge for losing the Original Screenplay Academy Award to Justine Triet and Arthur Harari for Anatomy of a Fall.
The latter script, however, wasn’t eligible for a Writers Guild Award. That’s because, unlike other guilds, the WGA deems ineligible any scripts for movies not produced under its Minimum Basic Agreement or a bona fide collective bargaining agreement with various affiliated countries.
Later, the Documentary prize went to Errol Morris...

Conan O’Brien has been on the campaign trail for his Max show Conan O’Brien Must Go, but during his latest promo stop, the comedian turned his attention to his paymasters.
Appearing on YouTube phenomenon Hot Ones, the former The Tonight Show host embarked on a spicy wing-fueled rant about Warner Bros. Discovery’s rebrand of streaming service HBO Max.
“Is it HBO Max or just Max? I can’t get used to it,” O’Brien joked when being questioned by Sean Evans about his travel series. “It’s not a better name,” he added.
By the end of his spicy wing experience, O’Brien was covered in hot sauce and drooling milk as he roared about the rebrand during his final plug for Must Go.

It’s always refreshing to see the face of a late-night show turn the spotlight onto the staff and crew that help make it all happen, and Stephen Colbert did just that at a recent taping.
In a new behind the scenes clip from his pre-show audience Q&a, Colbert highlights a longtime crew member, stage manager Mark McKenna.

John Oliver spotlighted Simu Liu and John Boyega on Last Week Tonight for their beginnings as stock photo models.
In the last segment of the HBO show, Oliver talked about stock photos, noting that that’s how the Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and Star Wars: The Force Awakens stars got their start.
“Stock photos provide an income stream, not just for photographers, but also for actors starting out,” Oliver said.
Oliver cut to a photo of Boyega in a picture posing as a student. The late-night show host then presented Liu with a series of photos “pointing at a laptop, looking at the camera during a group project and exercising in a totally normal, not at all unhinged way.” Oliver was poking fun at the way Liu was posing while seemingly exercising for the picture.

The FCC will vote on April 25 on whether to reinstate net neutrality rules, which would prohibit Comcast, AT&T and other internet providers from blocking or throttling internet traffic or creating paid fast lanes to reach consumers.
With Democrats now holding a 3-2 majority on the commission, the proposal is expected to pass.
The most controversial aspect of the proposal, as it has been in the past, is to reinstate the FCC’s Title II authority over internet service. That regulatory maneuver, vigorously opposed by major internet providers, gives the agency a firm legal footing to oversee broadband services. The Title II classification deems that internet providers as common carriers, similar to the regulatory classification given to landline phone service. The proposal would not allow the FCC to regulate rates, an FCC official said.

If Stephen Colbert were out to dinner with his fellow late-night hosts, who would be most likely to pick up the bill and who would excuse themselves to go to the bathroom just as the bill arrived?
That was the question an audience member asked the Late Show host before a recent taping, and you can bet that the improv-trained Colbert had a quick response.
In a clip posted to the show’s Instagram account, Colbert tells the audience member that he has, in fact, been out to eat with the other hosts, and that “Kimmel is the one most likely to pick up the bill. He’s a very generous guy.”
“The one most likely to go to the bathroom when the bill came would be John Oliver,” he added to a big laugh from the crowd.

John Oliver took shots at Donald Trump’s “cash grabs,” including mugshot T-shirts (which read “Not Guilty”), branded cologne, a Bible, mini speakers with Trump’s likeness, and gold-colored earpods and sneakers, on Sunday’s edition of Last Week Tonight.

John Oliver roasted Donald Trump on Last Week Tonight for his “cash grab” schemes as the former Potus makes another run for the White House.

Oliver said Trump was “monetizing his bad behavior,” which could be summed up by a t-shirt he’s selling featuring his mugshot and the caption “Not Guilty” across the front.
The comedian went through a list of things Trump had been doing to raise money to pay for his legal troubles, using his followers to foot the bill.

According to our spies, John Oliver is set to discuss food delivery app giants Uber Eats, DoorDash and Grubhub on this week’s episode of Last Week Tonight.
For those lowest on the socioeconomic ladder, delivery jobs for these apps are often the easiest to get, but they can also be dangerous, especially in a city like New York, where delivery workers face deadly traffic and violent attacks.
Adding insult to injury, these workers often earn less than minimum wage. To try to combat this problem, both New York City and Seattle recently mandated wage floors for food app workers–but (as one imagines Oliver will cover tonight) they’ve faced stiff opposition from the app companies, who unsuccessfully sued the city of New York when it first sought to raise the hourly rate for delivery workers from an hourly average of $7.09 to $17.96.
Since the new wage floor went into effect earlier this year,...

In a decision that has raised eyebrows and fueled allegations of favoritism, Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas has appointed Crystal Clanton, a former employee of his wife, as a law clerk.
Clanton, a 29-year-old conservative activist who transitioned into a legal career, has secured a coveted position as a law clerk for the October term of the Supreme Court. Her selection has been met with criticism, as she had previously faced accusations of sending racist text messages. Despite these allegations, Clanton had been closely connected to the Thomas family, often referred to as their “nearly adopted daughter.”
As reported in The New Yorker in 2017, Clanton had texted, “I Hate Black People. Like f‑‑‑ them all … I hate blacks. End of story.”
When the messages surfaced at the time, Clanton said she had “no recollection,” of the texts. She stepped down from her position at Turning Point USA in the wake...

Amidst all the things that are happening across the globe at the moment, the latest hard-hitting news that has emerged is the news about how Princess Kate is suffering from an early stage of cancer. But before this, the internet was met with Stephen Colbert, John Oliver, and Jimmy Kimmel, all trying their own methods of relaying this information.

On the other hand, Kimmel has been praised for not making a mockery of this situation since he was one of the few journalists and talk show hosts who...

British royal family news shows that today Princess Kate, the Princess of Wales announced she has been diagnosed with cancer and is receiving treatment.
The news comes after a planned abdominal operation in January which had her sidelined from royal duties as she heals.
While the best in the world sent well wishes to Kate, several public figures found it in themselves to mock a sick woman mercilessly. Who does this?
Here’s who: Kim Kardashian, Blake Lively, Andy Cohen, Stephen Colbert, and John Oliver all found it funny to be cruel to a sick woman. How crass. None of these shameless people have issued an apology at the time of publication. Kim’s excuse may be that she’s taking the trash out, per Taylor Swift.

Seth Meyers is bringing his standup act to Chicago this Spring, where he’ll be taping a new special at the Vic Theatre.
It’s unclear when and on what platform Meyers’ special will be released, but his previous hour, Lobby Baby, premiered on Netflix in 2019.
That special saw Meyers mining his personal life for stories about marriage proposals, his chaotic wedding day, and — as the title suggests — the time his wife Alexi gave birth to their son in the lobby of their apartment building.
That’s a premise that sounds hard to top, but the couple has since welcomed another child. Here’s hoping it gave him some more good material.
The host of NBC’s Late Night has been spending a lot of time on the standup stage recently. In addition to performing weekend solo dates across the country, he’s also in the middle of a six-date...

Where is Kate Middleton? It’s the question that has been consuming the world’s attention for weeks now, but it’s one Jimmy Kimmel wants to put an end to once and for all. During his March 21 monologue on “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” the late night host urged his viewers to “leave this woman alone” while addressing the media attention around Middleton’s whereabouts.
“We finally got a royal update on Kate Middleton,” Kimmel said, referring to what Kensington Palace representatives told The Telegraph this week about Middleton looking after the Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood program while working from home.
“There’s a very simple explanation for Kate Middleton’s whereabouts: She’s been working from home,” Kimmel continued. How does a princess work from home? ‘I’m just going to stay in and wave at people?’ Maybe it’s because I’m American but I don’t understand the craziness around this.

We knew it was coming, now we know when.
NBC has announced that the Jimmy Kimmel episode of Password will air on Tuesday March 26th. As we previously reported, Kimmel taped an appearance on his late-night rival’s prime time game show last Fall.
The show is hosted by Keke Palmer, who won an Emmy for her work on the show’s first season. She’s joined in each episode by recurring player Fallon, who pairs with a contestant to compete against another celebrity guest/contestant pair.
It won’t be the first time the two late night hosts have worked together. In addition to Strike Force Five, the podcast that paired the duo with fellow hosts Stephen Colbert, Seth Meyers and John Oliver to help raise funds for striking staffers last Summer, Fallon and Kimmel swapped places last year for April Fool’s Day, with each hosting the other’s show.

Kate Middleton Allegedly Confronted Prince William Immediately Over Rumored Affair With Rose Hanbury
Kate Middleton, as the spouse of Prince William and the future queen consort, has been less visible in public recently. Known for her philanthropy and dedication to royal duties, she remains a prominent figure in the British monarchy. With that said, it has been alleged that Kate Middleton confirmed Prince William immediately over his rumored affair with Rose Hanbury.
The Royal family
One significant facet of Middleton’s responsibilities involves engaging in public appearances, a facet she hasn’t actively pursued in the past few months. Nonetheless, fans expressed concern recently when Kate Middleton issued an apology for altering photos featuring her children.

John Oliver had a good laugh at the Republican party once again on Sunday night, this time because of House Speaker Mike Johnson’s choice in location for this year’s GOP retreat. According to the HBO host, the place “looks like the Wes Anderson Remake of ‘The Shining.”
The retreat will be sparsely attended this year, with Axios reporting that less than 100 members will be in attendance. And, the reasons for their missing it simply tickled Oliver. One member was so blunt as to say “I’d rather sit down with Hannibal Lecter and eat my own liver.”
Another claimed that he had already bought the materials to clean his boat and simply needed to do it that weekend.
“We all know how important it is to use boat cleaner before it expires,” Oliver quipped.
But a key piece of this reluctance seems to be because it’s usually held in Florida,...

Well, it looks like John Oliver has missed his chance to fix the Supreme Court—or at least eliminate one source of what he has described as its pervasive corruption.
Despite Oliver’s generous offer of $1 million a year for life, plus a $2.4 million luxury motor coach, Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas has not responded by signing a contract saying he’s resigning—and as Oliver noted last night on his HBO show Last Week Tonight, the offer expires in just 48 hours.
As late-night stunts go, this was a classic, in the same league as David Letterman trying to deliver a gift basket to new NBC owners, General Electric, and receiving for his generosity a Ge handshake.
Letterman at least got some response from his target. Oliver heard nothing from Thomas, or the wider Supreme Court; and probably, like every other effort to enforce some kind of ethical standard on the court,...

John Oliver dinged Kate Middleton for her Photoshop fail and got a cameo from Jersey Shore’s Snooki on Last Week Tonight.
At the top of the show, Oliver took a swipe at the drama in England over Kensington Palace’s release of a statement in which the Princess of Wales admitted to editing a photo of her and her three kids.
“A certain someone’s Adobe free trial expired in a pretty public manner,” Oliver quipped.
After a photo of Middleton and her three kids was released to the public to commemorate Mother’s Day in the UK, the picture was withdrawn from news agencies after it was revealed it had been manipulated.
“Like many amateur photographers, I do occasionally experiment with editing,” read the apology from Middleton. “I wanted to express my apologies for any confusion the family photograph we shared yesterday caused. I hope everyone celebrating had...

Nancy Pelosi made a widely derided TikTok pun last week, and John Oliver delighted in joining in chorus of those mocking the former House speaker on HBO’s Last Week Tonight.
Sunday’s episode of the late-night show aired a few days after the U.S. House of Representatives passed a bill that would lead to a ban of TikTok if its China-based owner doesn’t sell its stake. The bill passed on concerns that the app poses a national security threat under the ownership of Chinese technology firm ByteDance Ltd. Lawmakers say the company has ties to the Chinese government, which they fear could demand the company share information that puts the U.S. at risk. (The bill next goes to the Senate.)

In the wake of Kate Middleton’s alleged disappearance, the rumors of a fallout between the Princess of Wales and Prince William have reared their heads again. The speculation has caught the frenzy of internet sleuths, so much so that wild conspiracy theories are doing the rounds on social media.
Many believe that the possible marriage trouble between the Royals was due to an alleged affair by Prince William. The appearance of Sarah Rose Hanbury in the thick of things has only added fuel to the fire. It got to a point where even Stephen Colbert had to address it on his show, even though the rumors have been repeatedly dismissed.

HBO announced Wednesday that Real Time, which debuted in 2003, will air for a 23rd season next year and a 24th season in 2026. It is HBO’s second-longest-running series ever, only behind Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel, which recently concluded.
Real Time’s current run was set to expire at the end of this year.
“For 22 seasons and counting, Bill Maher remains a uniquely powerful voice in politics and culture,” added HBO programming, late-night and specials chief Nina Rosenstein. “Real Time is the rare place where people can both disagree and find common ground, which is more vital than ever. ‘What is going on with Kate Middleton?’ is a mystery that might even trouble the likes of Benoit Blanc at this point. Since being spotted at the Christmas morning service at Sandringham Church, the Princess of Wales has disappeared from the public eye, and the internet, as expected, has gone wild with the theories regarding the matter.
The only update regarding the 42-year-old’s whereabouts came from Buckingham Palace, which revealed she had undergone an abdominal surgery and is expected to resume her official duties by April. However, British Comedian John Oliver hasn’t ruled out the possibility of her death, as he went on to joke about the matter by referencing the dark comedy Weekend at Bernie’s.

John Oliver has weighed in on the current royal scandal involving Kate Middleton and her whereabouts.
During “Watch What Happens Live” on Tuesday night, host Andy Cohen asked the British comedian his thoughts on the situation, saying: “What the fuck is going on with Kate Middleton?”
“I was out. I thought, ‘Let’s just all ignore this, we’ve moved on,’ until the Photoshop thing,” Oliver said. “It feels like you’re almost handling it badly in an impressive way at this point.”
It all started on Jan. 17, when Kensington Palace announced that the Princess of Wales had undergone a “planned abdominal surgery” for an undisclosed medical condition. It was indicated that she would not resume her public royal duties until after Easter, but rumors began to swirl after Middleton had not been spotted for a prolonged period of time. John Oliver took a subtle swipe at Deadline’s coverage of Last Week Tonight in the latest episode of his HBO show.
The British comedian mocked this very publication in a segment about medicine, doctors and state medical boards.
We were the latest television target after Oliver slammed Dancing with the Stars in a segment about North Carolina Republican Mark Robinson, who compared it to Stalin’s showtrials.

The show is hosted by Keke Palmer, who won an Emmy for her work on the show’s first season. She’s joined in each episode by recurring player Fallon, who pairs with a contestant to compete against another celebrity guest/contestant pair.
At press time it wasn’t clear when Kimmel’s episode will air, but we know it was taped at Universal studios during the last week of November 2023.
It won’t be the first tme the two late night hosts have worked together. In addition to the podcast that paired the duo with fellow hosts Stephen Colbert, Seth Meyers and John Oliver to help raise funds for striking staffers, Fallon and Kimmel swapped places last year for April Fool’s Day, with each hosting the other’s show.

John Oliver has some advice for the Supreme Court.
On HBO’s Last Week Tonight on Sunday, Oliver noted the court’s move last week to decide whether former President Donald Trump has presidential immunity against being prosecuted on charges he interfered with the 2020 election.
Oliver played a clip from an ABC News report in which the reporter noted that “the court [is] now taking on a monumental unanswered question: Can a former president be criminally prosecuted for actions taken while in office?”
Mused Oliver: “It’s an interesting question and real quick: Yes. Yes. A former president can be criminally prosecuted for actions taken in office. It is one of those questions to which the answer should really be obvious. Like, did Robert Durst kill those people, or which cereal mascot fucks the most, or who should play the next Batman? And for the record, the answers are: Absolutely, it...

John Oliver has some ideas for DC co-heads James Gunn and Peter Safran as to who should be their next Batman.
On the latest episode of Last Week Tonight, Oliver discussed the Supreme Court agreeing to take on Donald Trump’s immunity case and whether ex-presidents can be prosecuted. The HBO late-night show host said that the answer was an obvious, “Yes!”
Oliver went on to cite other obvious answers like, “Did Robert Durst kill those people? Or Which cereal mascot f***s the most? Or who should play the next Batman? And for the record, the answers are, absolutely, it’s not even close [Tony the tiger], and Natasha Lyonne.”
The comedian joked the Russian Doll star would make a great casting choice whenever they cast the next Batman.

Plot: After not leaving the palace for quite some time, Chancellor Elena Vernham has grown increasingly paranoid and unstable when she turns to a volatile soldier, Herbert Zubak, as an unlikely confidant. As Zubak’s influence over the chancellor continues to grow, Elena’s attempts to expand her power eventually result in both the palace and the country fracturing around her.
Review: Politics, violence, sex, and humor are all elements that have made quality programming ranging from Game of Thrones to Veep. In The Regime, these elements are played for laughs as much as they are chills and provides a platform for Kate Winslet to deliver her most distinct role yet. As Elena Vernham, the Chancellor of a fictional European country, Winslet portrays an autocrat who thinks she has more power than she actually does. By showing the clearly decadent and sometimes silly decision-making, The Regime gives new meaning to...

The last thing TV needs right now is another reboot. So when it was announced in January that Jon Stewart would be returning home to “The Daily Show,” hosting the show on Mondays through the 2024 election and becoming an executive producer full-time on the program, I found myself curious what the response would be from longtime fans.
During his first run as host of the Comedy Central news program (1999-2015) Stewart paved a new kind of infotainment that inarguably shaped how a segment of the population consumed news. In his wake, he was far from the only one. When Stewart got the Mark Twain Prize in 2022, former “Daily Show” correspondent Bee cracked, “Satire solves the world’s problems. Don’t believe me? Just look at all the satirical shows we now have and how amazing the world is doing!”
Does that world still need Jon Stewart? Perhaps more pressing: Is...

The Alabama Supreme Court’s recent ruling that embryos created using in-vitro-fertilization (IVF) are legally equivalent to people has caused absolute chaos as healthcare providers try to figure out the implications of this new legal status quo. It’s potentially massive and unsettling, as John Oliver pointed out the core absurdity on Last Week Tonight when he joked: “If you freeze an embryo, it’s fine. If you freeze a person, you have some explaining to do.”
The ruling, handed down last week, is already impacting fertility clinics across the state.
