William Mourne(1918-1985)
- Writer
William Raymond Munroe (aka William Mourne, Bill) was born to Amelia
and Isador Meyrowitz on May 23, 1918 in New York City. His parents,
both teachers in the NYC Public School system, educated him at a very
young age, and he went directly into 3rd grade at age 6. He entered
Columbia University at age 14, but dropped out at age 16. He was
already writing scripts and short stories. Fast forward - he met and
married his first wife, Sylvia Virginia Saydah, in or around 1940. They
conceived their first child, Jill Munroe, born in 1943, and Bill went
off to the air force to fight in North Africa during WWII. He came home
and broke down, which caused a separation in the marriage. They were
reunited and Mimi Kate Munroe was born in 1956. Bill continued to write
and submit scripts to the TV industry all through the 1950's and
1960's, having moderate success. When the TV industry moved its base
from NYC to California in the mid-1960's, he considered moving to
California. His love for his native NY won out, and he remained in NYC
until his death in 1985. His wife, Sylvia, died in 1972. Bill remarried
Mildred Warner Gilman (Millie), and they lived together happily until
his death. His opus includes magazine article, short stories, movie,
play, and musical scripts (including lyrics), and one novel.
