Scott Derrickson’s new Apple Original movie “The Gorge” answers only one of these questions, and unfortunately for philosophers everywhere, it’s the hot sniper question. But the rest of us will cheerfully make do. “The Gorge” is an unexpectedly romantic movie coming from the “Sinister” and “The Black Phone” director, but it’s also a gnarly monster flick with memorable beasties galore.

Miles Teller stars as Levi, a former Marine sniper who works freelance, and he’s super lonely. When a powerful figure played by Sigourney Weaver enlists Levi for a mysterious, year-long mission, he’s got nothing tying him down.

The Black Phone and Sinister director Scott Derrickson gets into the Valentine’s Day spirit with his latest, The Gorge, a romantic action thriller that also leans heavily into horror and sci-fi. Derrickson helms this genre mashup with lean efficiency, letting stars Miles Teller and Anya Taylor-Joy do the heavy lifting as a pair of highly trained operatives turned lovers tasked with guarding the world against a strange threat. The leads’ inherent charm and screen presence and an inventive foray into thrilling action-horror territory sand some of The Gorge‘s rougher edges, making for a fun and romantic ride.

I genuinely love movies about elite soldiers facing off against horrors beyond human comprehension. The sight of watching a warrior’s arrogance and bravery, which comes from their ability to wield the latest cutting-edge weapon, evaporates as they come to the realization that their primitive ways of warfare are of no use is oddly satisfying. I suppose Aliens is responsible for this obsession, immediately followed by the evergreen classic that is Predator. Dog Soldiers is really underrated and should get a lot more mainstream attention. I didn’t initially like Annihilation, but upon a rewatch, I admired what it was going for. I fell in love with Overlord almost instantly. I’m not sure if it counts, but I’ll give a shoutout to Underwater. Also, Love, Death & Robots’ shorts set in this subgenre, The Secret War, Sucker of Souls, Kill Team Kill, and In Vaulted Halls Entombed, are incredibly rewatchable.

James Gunn was in charge of the Dcu when Shazam: Fury of the Gods came out, which saw the character share a space with Emilia Harcourt, and John Economos, one of whom has already been confirmed to be canon in the MCU. Given that both these characters were in Peacemaker Season 1, which will be canon in the Dcu, it is a possibility that Zachary Levi might have a space in the rebooted franchise.

An insider at The Hollywood Reporter, who I am suuuuure can be trusted 100%, recently informed the world that actor Zachary Levi was disappointed and “bitter” that he didn’t rise to Chris Evans or The Rock level of stardom after Shazam. Nobody can be sure if these were his true feelings, but to many, the science has been settled, and this is how he feels. So the dude became a Robert F Kennedy Jr. fan, which resulted in a Trump endorsement and running away from… or rather, escaping, LA. He now spends his time on a ranch in Texas, where, apparently, he is going to focus on making faith-based films. So, did they cancel Zachary Levi, or did they set him free?

As an actor, his silliness is always believable, especially when he pretty much plays himself, a lovable man-child who can do action scenes, like in the hilarious show Chuck.

James Gunn is known for being a creature of habit. He has worked with the same actors more than a handful of times throughout his career, regardless of what project he is working on. Be it Michael Rooker, Daniela Melchior, Nathan Fillion, or Mikaela Hoover, he seems to stay at his comfort level when it comes to casting his projects.

However, there is one actor who gets the brunt of criticism for Gunn’s creative choice. His brother, Sean Gunn, has worked on almost every single one of Gunn’s films, resulting in many calling him a product of nepotism.

Whether Marleyan, Eldian, or otherwise, the soldiers in Attack on Titan are some of the strongest and most resilient individuals in any anime series, facing monumental threats on a daily basis and risking their own lives to guard both their comrades and innocent humans from danger. Each of these heroes has their own distinctive fighting style and moral code, but they are all united under a common goal: protecting the world from man-eating Titans.

Some soldiers, like Armin, rely on carefully concocted plans of attack and manipulation, while others, like Levi Ackerman, focus more heavily on brute force and stunning swordsmanship. Without each of these Attack on Titan soldiers, there is no telling how long the Titans would have terrorized the world, and for that, these characters deserve recognition.
