New Delhi, May 29 (Ians) Institutional teams at one time had a strong presence in Indian football with some of them like Hyderabad Police, and Kerala Police winning major national-level tournaments and others like State Bank of Travancore, Air India, Ongc along with teams from Services and Railways making their mark during their times.
Many of them are now defunct because of dwindling funding and lack of support, others are barely surviving and mostly engaged in local leagues.
The announcement by the All India Football Federation of introducing an Institutional League to create more avenues for competition for footballers playing in PSUs, state departments, and police units, has provoked conversation within the community in the country. For many the league will come as a boon, offering them a chance to play competitive football and showcase their talent for selection to the higher echelons of the game.

Thiruvananthapuram, April 30 (Ians) Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Sunday slammed upcoming Hindi film “The Kerala Story”, which is based on “Love Jihad”, terming it part of “Sangh Parivar propaganda” aimed at political gains.
Vijayan, in a Facebook post on Sunday, said that the movie was created to demonise Kerala and to communally divide the state.
“From the trailer of the movie, it can be gathered that the movie has taken up the Sangh Parivar propaganda that positions an uncompromisingly secular land like Kerala as a hot bed of terrorists,” he wrote.
He said that propaganda films and the “othering” of Muslims in such movies should be seen in the context of the various attempts being made by Sangh Parivar to squeeze out some political gains in Kerala.
The film, according to its trailer, depicts hundreds of girls – mainly Hindu girls who were allegedly brainwashed, converted and recruited to Islamic...

FlashbackSince the release of Sathyan Anthikad’s ‘Sanmanassullavarkku Samadhanam’ in 1986, Sreenivasan’s inherent goofiness and Mohanlal’s adorable naiveté have worked together to build an admirable synergy on screen.Neelima MenonThey last shared screen space in T K Rajeev Kumar’s satirical drama Oru Naal Varum (2010), which was also written by Sreenivasan. In the film, Mohanlal played a Vigilance officer who is trying to build a case against a corrupt town planner (Sreenivasan). Much water has flown under the bridge since then, including a spoof film deriding the superstars, with Mohanlal getting the maximum barbs. Though the superstar seemed to have chosen to brush it aside, they also never came together on screen again, much to the disappointment of Malayali cinephiles. But last month, when the duo finally shared a stage after a decade, and Mohanlal planted a kiss on the frail cheeks of Sreenivasan, social media took a collective sigh.

New Delhi, Sep 16 (Ians) Former Indian football captain I.M. Vijayan feels that it’s a great opportunity for the girls to play against some of the top teams like Brazil and USA in the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup and get high-quality experience from them.
“It’s such a great opportunity for the girls. This is the best age to play against some of the top teams like Brazil and USA. It does not matter if they win or lose. “The whole nation will be watching, and that is the best opportunity for them to show what they can do. I for one, will certainly be cheering them on. Not only is it all about enjoying the moment,...
