Though she’d dreamed of owning a Spanish Revival home, there was something about the boxy, modern house that Anonymous Content manager Meredith Rothman couldn’t shake. Maybe it was the floor-to-ceiling windows. Or the abundance of natural light. Or the fact that it was tucked neatly into a canyon in Beverly Hills, conjuring up memories of her childhood home in Bel Air. Rothman asked interior designer Lauren Waters for her thoughts. “I assured her it was a wonderful blank canvas for intriguing furniture and great art,” says Waters.
That advice sealed the deal for Rothman, who tasked Waters with transforming the 2,500-square-foot spec house into a home that would serve as space to unwind, enable her to host the occasional soiree and showcase her burgeoning art collection, which includes works by Analia Saban and John Baldessari, as well as a charcoal drawing by her grandmother Luddie Waters, who was...

Actors doing good work on network series are sometimes overlooked at Emmy time, though the networks continue to televise the awards ceremony to cash in on advertising revenue. The academy’s snob factor kicks into high gear and performers on premium cable series and streaming shows take priority. This year may be different. Respected veteran character actor John Carroll Lynch, who has played everything from Frances McDormand’s husband, Norm Gunderson, in the 1996 film “Fargo” to a trio of villains on FX’s “American Horror Story,” may crash the party in Best Drama Supporting Actor. It would be his first nomination.

Big Sky is not messing around.
Throughout its freshman season, the series has featured countless deaths, and Big Sky Season 1 Episode 13 confirmed that Blake Kleinsasser was dead after being hit with a shovel by his brother.
Naturally, the development took fans by surprise, and many of them took to social media to speak out about the development.
"@BigSkyABC killing off @MRaymondJames in 4 episodes really a shame you guys could of had some but like so many show's you ruined in the first season great job," said one irate fan.
Michael Raymond-James, who plays Blake, responded to the above fan, sharing that he could only commit to a handful of episodes.
"Nah this isn’t anybody’s fault man," the former True Blood and Once Upon a Time star wrote on Twitter, adding:

Big Sky is the latest series to come from acclaimed writer David E. Kelley (Big Little Lies), and is part of the launch of Star, on Disney+. To mark its release we had the pleasure of speaking to one of its leading stars, John Carroll Lynch. The venerable actor discusses working with Kelley, and the joy in playing a character of this nature (we can’t divulge more info there in case of spoilers). And we asked whether he plans to get behind the lens again. Well we say asked, we effectively told him he needs to, such was the brilliance of his directorial debut Lucky.

Disney+ has launched 3 new trailers for the Star Originals series’ ‘Solar Opposites’, ‘Big Sky’ and ‘Love, Victor’.
Solar Opposites
Co-created by Justin Roiland (Rick and Morty) and Mike McMahan (Rick and Morty), Solar Opposites centres around a team of four aliens who escape their exploding homeworld only to crash land into a move-in ready home in suburban America. They are evenly split on whether Earth is awful or awesome. Korvo (Justin Roiland) and Yumyulack (Sean Giambrone) only see the pollution, crass consumerism, and human frailty while Terry (Thomas Middleditch) and Jesse (Mary Mack) love humans and all their TV, junk food and fun stuff. Their mission: protect the Pupa, a living supercomputer that will one day evolve into its true form, consume them and terraform the Earth.
The series will see the first two episodes debut on launch on 23 February, and then follow the Disney+ release cadence with new episodes dropping Fridays at 8am GMT.

Spoiler Alert: The story includes details about the Dec. 15 episode of ABC’s Big Sky.
For a second time in five episodes, ABC’s freshman drama Big Sky ended its telecast with a main character being shot.
In the final second of the series premiere, Ryan Phillippe’s Cody Hoyt was shot dead by Montana State Trooper Rick Legarski (John Carroll Lynch). In tonight’s fall finale, it was villainous Legarski’s turn to face grave danger.
In the culmination of the episode, “A Good Day to Die,” Cassie Dewell (Kylie Bunbury) shot Legarski in the head during a rescue mission to free the kidnapped girls.
Asked about the fate of his character by TVLine, Carroll Lynch would not reveal whether Legarski is dead or alive but hinted at a possible demise. “I will say that whatever happens is appropriate for this character,” he said.

‘Big Sky’ Star Jade Pettyjohn on Fall Finale Cliffhanger: ‘On the Surface, It Seems Like We’re Safe’
(Warning: This post contains spoilers for the fall finale of ABC’s “Big Sky.”)
David E. Kelley’s ABC thriller “Big Sky” brought the first half of its first season to a close Tuesday with Cassie (Kylie Bunbury) shooting Rick Legarski (John Carroll Lynch) in the head after coming to the recuse of the kidnapped Grace (Jade Pettyjohn), Danielle (Natalie Alyn Lind) and Jerrie (Jesse James Keitel).
It was a shocking scene that probably has fans thinking the girls are finally safe from their captors and the buyer who was coming for them — but Pettyjohn told TheWrap you shouldn’t get too comfortable while waiting for the show to return at midseason.
“That’s really what’s so exciting about the show is that nothing is really as it seems and you don’t know where they’re going to take it. So on the surface, it seems like we...

Big Sky has been a wildly addictive drama since its November debut on ABC.
But the action will pause next week when the freshman drama airs its winter finale.
"Jenny and Cassie feel as if they’re closing in on Legarski, but they are racing against the clock as he and Ronald are preparing to move the girls," reads the official logline.
"Jerrie makes one last attempt to convince Ronald to let them go. Elsewhere, Cassie visits Merilee to question her about her husband and Ronald aggressively confronts his mother," it concludes.
The official trailer certainly shows a lot of wild developments, and given how Big Sky Season 1 Episode 4 ended, we should probably expect at least two big deaths.
We know Legarski was about to visit Merilee with a hammer at the conclusion of the most recent episode, so could Cassie find her corpse?

David E. Kelley’s new drama “Big Sky” has received six more episodes from ABC, the broadcast network said Monday. That brings the total for the first season of the Katheryn Winnick- and Kylie Bunbury-led thriller to 16.
Based on the book series by C.J. “Big Sky” is getting a little bigger.
ABC has issued an order for six additional episodes of the freshman drama, bringing the season 1 total to 16 episodes. News of the additional order comes only three episodes into the season, which premiered back in mid-November.
It comes as no great surprise given that the show has been a strong ratings performer for the Disney-owned network. After seven days of delayed viewing, the series premiere grew to 10.8 million total viewers and a 2.5 rating among adults 18-49, making it ABC’s most-watched and highest-rated series debut since “The Rookie.”
The premiere’s big numbers can likely be attributed in part to the shocking twist at the very end, when one of the lead characters, Cody Hoyt (Ryan Philippe), was shot dead by State Trooper Rick Legarski (John Carroll Lynch). Philippe and fellow stars Kylie Bunbury and Katheryn Winnick addressed the twist during the series’ virtual premiere.

Hell hath no fury like a pair of women lied to, patronized, threatened and underestimated.
Jenny and Cassie run into Officer Rick Legarski in this exclusive sneak peek at Tuesday’s Big Sky (ABC, 10/9c). But it’s no chance encounter, as evidenced by the way Cassie every-so-casually pops a tracker into the wheel well of the Montana state trooper’s SUV. Good thing Legarski doesn’t seem to see her do it — though he’s certainly not happy to run into The Many Loves of Cody Hoyt.

ABC has a hit on its hands with Big Sky.
The freshman ABC drama launched to middling numbers last month.
Big Sky Season 1 Episode 1 notched 4.2 million total viewers and a 0.7 rating.
With a week of DVR factored in, however, the series swelled to 8.7 million viewers and a 1.5 rating in the demo.

With a week of DVR factored in, however, the series swelled to 8.7 million viewers and a 1.5 rating in the demo.
When you factor in digital platforms, the premiere managed 10.8 million viewers and a 2.5 rating, becoming ABC's biggest multi-platform launch in two years.
In fact, Big Sky is the network's biggest launch in multiplatform ratings since the series debut of The Rookie in October 2018.
What's more, the new drama had the largest L+7 playback lift for a new series debut in total viewers (+4.55 million) since September 2018 (NBC’s New Amsterdam) and with adults 18-49 (+0.9 rating points) since February 2020 (Fox’s Lego Masters).
In L+7 linear ratings, the Katheryn Winnick and Kylie Bunbury-led drama emerged as the strongest drama debut...

This article contains spoilers for Big Sky episode 1.
The David E. Kelley-produced crime drama Big Sky premiered its first episode Tuesday night on ABC. Due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, it’s thus far the first and only new pilot from ABC this fall season. And as you may have heard by now, it concludes with one hell of a bang.
The series is set in “big sky” country in Montana and finds two young teenage girls, Grace and Danielle being abducted by a creepy trucker. That puts Danielle’s boyfriends estranged parents, Jenny Hoyt (Katherine Winnick) and Cody Hoyt (Ryan Phillippe) on the case to find them along with their P.I. pal Cassie Dewell (Kylie Bunbury).
Of course, as episode one reveals, it looks as though Jenny and Cassie will be the only two pursuing the case of the missing young women as Cody Hoyt is now indisposed.

Big Sky, bigger twist.
David E. Kelley’s ABC drama debuted Tuesday, introducing viewers to Cody Hoyt (played by Shooter’s Ryan Phillippe) and Cassie (Pitch‘s Kylie Bunbury), private investigators and sometime romantic partners whose life quickly gets complicated by Jenny (Vikings‘ Katheryn Winnick), the ex-cop who’s also Cody’s estranged (and very angry) wife. Jenny tracks Cassie down at a bar, and they get into a fistfight that lands them both in an urgent care clinic. But the trio’s love triangle quickly takes a backseat when Cody and Jenny’s teenage son Justin reports that his girlfriend might have gone missing.

Spoiler alert: The story includes details about the series premiere of ABC’s Big Sky.
From the get-go, ABC’s new mystery drama Big Sky, marking David E. Kelley’s return to broadcast TV, has been marketed as a three-hander, with posters featuring Katheryn Winnick, Kylie Bunbury and Ryan Phillippe as the show’s three leads.
That was all a ploy to protect the big twist in the final seconds of the series premiere episode when Phillippe’s character is shot dead. The shocking ending seemingly came out of nowhere as Winnick, Bunbury and Phillippe’s characters spent the premiere going about their business — and their complicated relationships — with no sign that any of them was in any danger.
“I was shocked certainly, and I think that’s also what made me so excited about it,” Phillippe said of his reaction to the twist when offered the role during a panel held last week.

With beautiful open skies, tree-dotted mountains, and gorgeous nature, Big Sky, Montana, seems like the perfect backdrop for two sisters on vacation. But ABC's gripping new drama, Big Sky, shows that some nature getaways are not as fun and relaxing as they sound. If you've seen the chilling trailer for Big Sky, you'll know it follows two young women whose car breaks down near Yellowstone National Park who are then kidnapped. Later, we find out that 12 females are missing within a 100-mile radius of the pretty place, making it a much more sinister story than it first appears.
The show was created by David E. Kelley (known for Big Little Lies and The Practice) and is based on C.J. Box's Cassie Dewell series of suspense novels. Season one follows the plot of the second book, The Highway, which is about former police investigator Cody Hoyt (played by Ryan Phillippe...

Television is a fickle beast. No one can say for sure what kind of scripted drama will work. But Big Sky, the only new drama on ABC’s schedule for fall 2020, sure does have a lot going in its favor.
Big Sky is the latest TV project from David E. Kelley, the prolific showrunner best known for shepherding series like Ally McBeal and Big Little Lies. It is based on a series of books by C.J. Box. And like Paramount Network’s unexpected hit Yellowstone, it takes place in “big sky country” – this time in Montana.
The show will follow the sudden disappearance of two sisters in Montana and the group of concerned adults who band together to find them, only to realize that they aren’t the only girls who have gone missing in the area. Recognizable TV faces like Ryan Phillippe, Katheryn Winnick, Kylie Bunbury, and John Carroll Lynch all star.

During the second day of ABC’s Virtu-Fall Presentations, Big Sky executive producer and showrunner David E. Kelley said there’s no secret to creating a successful TV show. For the notable Big Little Lies creator helming a hit title can be quite simple.
“It’s very unscientific and inexact. I don’t consider myself a uber-producer or a television maven,” Kelley said during Wednesday’s Big Sky panel. “If I find something I like then, I just cross my fingers, close my eyes and hope there’s enough ppl out there that will find it interesting.”
The showrunner, joined by cast members including Katheryn Winnick, Kylie Bunbury and Ryan Phillippe, teased what thriller enthusiasts can expect in the new ABC series, which will debut Nov 17.

ABC is the fifth and final broadcast network to announce its fall plans, and it's a relatively stable schedule.
Instead of bringing in pandemic-proof programming like Fox and The CW, the network is following the lead set by CBS and NBC and will air bring back original content in the fall.
That's not to say there will be no changes, however.
The Bachelorette, which was set to launch in May, has officially been bumped to the fall, meaning that ABC thinks it will be able to complete production in the next few months.
It will air on Tuesdays this time, for two hours each week, leading into the Katheryn Winnick-fronted The Big Sky.
This move also means that the Tuesday comedy line-up has been pulled, and forcing The Conners to a new night.
It is inheriting the slot previously held by Modern Family on Wednesdays, and will lead-in to...

ABC released its fall lineup on Tuesday, with the broadcaster planning to be back to business as usual despite the production shutdown caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
Guidelines were recently issued on how shows can resume production despite the pandemic, though the vast majority of productions have not started up again yet.
“We wanted to honor the current environment and be thoughtful, which is why we waited until this moment when we have more confidence in our ability to return scripted programming in the fall,” ABC Entertainment president Karey Burke tells Variety.
Burke did acknowledge the chance that the schedule as it currently exists may not happen in a normal time frame, however. “We hope it’s a fall schedule,” she says. “We’re calling it our premiere schedule.”
ABC’s schedule remains largely unchanged with a few notable exceptions. First and foremost, Season 16 of “The Bachelorette” featuring Clare Crawley...

ABC has made its first official new scripted series selections for the 2020-21 season, handing straight-to-series orders to David E. Kelley’s drama Big Sky, starring Kylie Bunbury, and Kari Lizer’s multi-camera comedy Call Your Mother (fka My Village), headlined by Kyra Sedgwick.
They will join 11 returning ABC scripted series, which have been renewed for next season, including eight picked up today, as well as the previously announced Supermarket Sweep series reboot with Leslie Jones, which also will debut next season.
2020 ABC Pilots & Series Orders
“At a time when we are physically apart and shared experiences matter more than ever, these shows will build on the strategy that has made us No. 1 this season – bringing people together, creating cultural moments, and making content that entertains and inspires across generations and demographics,” said ABC Entertainment President Karey Burke, referring to ABC’s No.1 finish for the 2019-20 season with entertainment programming, excluding sports.
Big Sky (fka. The Big Sky) had a series commitment/ order from the get-go, though it was formally contingent on ABC seeing a pilot, while Call Your Mother had a pilot order. Big Sky, from A+E Studios and 20th Century Fox TV, already had a writers room working on additional scripts, while Call Your Mother, from Sony Pictures TV and ABC Studios, had received an order from the network for 2 backup scripts.
‘For Life’ & ‘The Baker and the Beauty’ Remain On the Bubble As ABC Makes Renewal & Cancellation Decisions
The remaining ABC pilots, including high-profile dramas Rebel, starring Katey Sagal, and thirtysomething sequel thirtysomething(else), both of which also had opened writers rooms, remain in contention. I hear some will be piloted later, when Hollywood production is safe to resume, and there is a chance that some will go straight-to-series like The Big Sky and Call Your Mother.
Disney TV Studios, whose divisions 20th Century Fox TV and ABC Studios produce or co-produce all ABC pilots, is in the process of extending the options of the casts of all outstanding pilots through Sept. 30, I hear. As Deadline reported earlier this month, Disney TV Studios is among the studios that started paying the actors on their pilots, which allows the studio to amend cast deals and extend options.
‘Schooled’, ‘Bless This Mess, ‘Single Parents’, ‘Emergence’ & ‘Kids Say The Darndest Things’ Canceled By ABC
As the coronavirus pandemic completely upended the 2020 pilot season, with all pilots grounded before most had started production, the networks ordered backup scripts for their pilots to give them a better sense of projects’ potential and help them make straight-to-series decisions. All nets originally commissioned one backup script, with ABC subsequently ordering a second for all of their pilots.
Besides the three projects with writers rooms and Call Your Mother, among those that had been garnering very early buzz were drama Harlem’s Kitchen and comedy Home Economics.
This marks a second series order for the industrious Kelley today; Netflix this morning announced his new anthology Anatomy of a Scandal.
Written and executive produced by The Practice creator in his return to ABC, Big Sky is based on The Highway, the first book in C.J. Box’s Cassie Dewell series of novels. In the procedural thriller, private detective Cassie Dewell (Bunbury) partners with ex-cop Jenny Hoyt (Katheryn Winnick) on a search for two sisters who have been kidnapped by a truck driver on a remote highway in Montana. When they discover that these are not the only girls who have disappeared in the area, they must race against the clock to stop the killer before another woman is taken.
Written and executive produced by The New Adventures Of Old Christine creator Lizer, Call Your Mother revolves around an empty-nester mom, Jean Raines (Sedgwick), who wonders how she ended up alone while her children live their best lives thousands of miles away. She decides her place is with her family and as she reinserts herself into their lives, her kids realize they might actually need her more than they thought.
Here are more details about the newly picked up series:
