Elise Dione Finch Henriques, a meteorologist at New York station Wcbs for 16 years, has died at age 51, it was announced Sunday evening.
The beloved local meteorologist, who went by Elise Finch professionally, died suddenly in a local hospital, according to CBS News. Finch’s cause of death has not yet been determined. In its story announcing Finch’s passing, CBS described her as “a gifted and consummate professional who took great care with her work” and “a wonderful ambassador in the community,” as well as “a fiercely loving and devoted” mother and wife.

A reporter for New York’s CBS affiliate CBS2 was killed Saturday after falling from one of the rented mopeds that have become increasingly popular in a city still reluctant to use traditional mass transit.

“We are heartbroken here at CBS2 as a member of our news family has passed away,” the station tweeted late last night. “Reporter Nina Kapur joined the team in June 2019 and was known for her contagious smile and love for storytelling. She was involved in a moped accident Saturday in the city and died at Bellevue Hospital. Our thoughts and prayers are with Nina’s family. She will be missed.”

So I wake up after tossing and turning all night over the Coronavirus crisis, tune into CBS News This Morning, and there are hosts Mary Calvi and Chris Wragge standing in the pouring rain, the awning for the CBS Broadcast Center in the background. They are talking about how the building – the New York nerve center for numerous network and local newscasts – is shut again for precautionary reasons. Closed last week after people began testing positive for Covid-19, the building began to reopen with skeleton crews, but now it’s closed again. The local anchors cut to La-based Hermela Aregawi, who quarterbacked the newscast and introduced numerous CBS News This Morning journalists, all standing in the rain, in streets all over New York.

New York, April 2, 2012 – CBS Television Stations, a division of CBS Corporation (NYSE: CBS.A and CBS), today announced the closing of its acquisition of independent New York station Wlny-tv (Channels 10/55) and initial plans for operating the station, highlighted by the addition of three hours of live local newscasts each weekday, including the tri-state area’s first one-hour 9:00 Pm news program. Not very encouraging news for CBS’ rebranded morning show: In its first week, CBS This Morning, hosted by Gayle King, CHarlie Rose and Erica Hill, averaged 2.7 million viewers, 1.1 million of them in the adults 25-54 demographic. It finished well behind NBC’s Today (5.5 million, 2.4 million) and ABC’s Good Morning America (4.9 million, 2.0 million). What’s more, CBS This Morning was down 10% in total viewers and 13% in 25-54 from the same week last year, which marked the second week of the revamped CBS Early Show with Hill, Chris Wragge and Dave Price as hosts. This was the steepest decline among all broadcast morning programs despite This Morning featuring high-profile guests including Michelle Obama. (In several big markets — including Atlanta, Detroit, Tampa and Orlando – This Morning was even beaten by Fox News’ Fox & Friends in total viewers.) Today was down 6% in total viewers and 10% in 25-54, while Gma was actually up, 3% in...

Folks at ABC are “doing a happy dance” over word that CBS is about to remake The Early Show into a Morning Joe-like ensemble gabfest with Charlie Rose and Gayle King joining current co-hosts Erica Hill and Jeff Glor, The New York Times says. The plan indicates that the network is abandoning any hope of overtaking ABC’s Good Morning America or NBC’s Today in the ratings, and are settling instead for the cachet of being a hard-news alternative — which appeals to CBS’ older demo. CBS hasn’t decided whether to stick with the Early Show name, and it seems there’s no role for another co-host, Chris Wragge. The revamped show would have a regular group of contributors with Rose guiding things at 7 Am, and King taking charge at 8. CBS execs can’t be pleased with the way The Times framed their plans: The paper says that the...

Last December there was a veritable bloodbath over at CBS when 'The Early Show' axed anchors Harry Smith and Maggie Rodriguez, plus meteorologist Dave Price, in a major reshuffle of CBS News on-air talent. Now it's been reported that early 2012 will see the show receive another makeover including a new set, maybe a new name, and two new hosts: PBS veteran Charlie Rose and Oprah's Bff Gayle King.
According to 'The New York Times' CBS will announce the planned revamp in New York on Tuesday. The network is expected to reveal a shift in direction away from the coffee klatch feel of most morning talk shows and towards a focus on hard news with the panel format of shows like MSNBC's 'Morning Joe' and ABC's 'The View.'

Ted Williams, the Ohio homeless man who became a YouTube sensation due to his golden radio voice, returned to the CBS Early Show this morning to discuss his roller-coaster ride of sudden fame. Looking polished and more comfortable in front of the cameras, Williams reflected on his emotionally jarring recent experiences, including his decision to leave a Texas rehab center. “It was too much, too fast, and I was just not really focused on what I should be doing,” he said. “I felt scripted. I was doing live phone-ins (to TV shows) from rehab.”

The network, which is shaking up its management, has asked anchor Katie Couric to stay on through the 2012 elections-for significantly less money than her original $15 million deal, a source tells Howard Kurtz.

While negotiations have not yet started and a deal might fail to materialize, this is the first concrete indication that Les Moonves, the company's chief executive, has made a decision on extending her deal.
That word comes amid a management shakeup in which Jeff Fager, the 60 Minutes executive producer, takes over CBS News from Sean McManus, the man who helped lure Couric from NBC's Today show five years ago.

It's all over the tabloids: Kelsey Grammer left his wife, "Real Housewife" Camille, for Kayte Walsh, a 29-year-old British flight attendant whom he's now engaged to. Camille reportedly rejected Kelsey's original $30 million settlement offer, believing the absence of a prenup could net her more money in child and spousal support. Kelsey is said to have requested a quickie divorce in order to speed up his upcoming nuptials. With all the he-said she-said, it's hard to separate fact from fiction. Camille opened up to The Early Show's Chris Wragge about the perils of going through a divorce in the spotlight.
On going through a divorce on TV:
"Well, divorce in itself is so difficult to go through. I mean, anybody knows who's gone through it. It's just so hard. And then to have to play it out on some reality TV show is, again, is surreal. It's hard to show...

In their first week, the new "Early Show" team earned eight percent fewer viewers than the veteran team they replaced did in the same week last year, final Nielsen numbers show. But they didn't suffer a mass exodus. The new team, led by Chris Wragge and Erica Hill, scored 2.82 million viewers in their debut week, which began Jan. 3. The old team, led by Smith and Maggie Rodriguez, scored 3.08 million viewers in the equivaent week last year, Jan. 4-8. Also read: Dave Price Exits 'Early Show' Early The numbers don't indicate,...

It was Day One of the new Early Show this morning on CBS. Gone were Harry Smith, Maggie Rodriguez, and Dave Price. In their seats were Chris Wragge, Erica Hill, and Marysol Castro. When the decision to revamp the third-place morning show was announced in November, some folks were none too pleased: Wragge was too handsome, said many critics, and his hard-news bonafides — he logged time on Entertainment Tonight — weren’t up to Smith-ian levels. Many loyal and disappointed fans of the previous team vowed not to watch the program. But the new gang seemed poised and professional this morning,...

The small talk that opened Monday's "Early Show" wasn't so small. "Anything big going on for you in the new year?" new anchor Chris Wragge asked his equally new co-anchor, Erica Hill. "Uh, not so much," she said. "No, back to work on a Monday." That was the low-key way the key players in CBS' major morning shakeup acknowledged their replacement of Harry Smith and Maggie Rodriguez, who were ejected from the show with the new year. CBS wants to juice the ratings for the show, which generally earns about half the viewers...

You ever notice how, when it gets down to the end of the year, there's all this stuff you said you'd do/planned to do that hasn't happened yet and gets squeezed into the remaining few weeks so that you don't feel like a complete failure? That's about where I am now as my friends and I get ready to go our separate ways for Christmas and are busily trying to schedule time to hang out around when everyone has stuff due/is leaving. It's both enjoyable and slightly stressful. Anyway, if you're not busy trying to stuff in all those "I'm going to [blank] in 2010!" declarations in tonight, here's what you can watch on TV as you reflect on your failure:
8:00pm: "How I Met Your Mother" on CBS
"The Sing-Off" on NBC
"Skating with the Stars" on ABC
"WWE: Raw" on USA

The CBS morning news timeslot reminds me of a highway-side retail location that changes tenants every few years. First it's a clothing store, then a sushi restaurant, then a gym, then a pizzeria. All the plans are ambitious, but nothing ever sticks.
So the news that the Eye network is shaking up their 'Early Show' crew, jettisoning Harry Smith, Maggie Rodriguez and Dave Price and installing the team of Chris Wragge, Erica Hill, Jeff Glor and Marysol Castro (the new team is pictured to the right), isn't a huge surprise. In fact, the comments by executive producer David Friedman in the wake of the shake-up make perfect sense: the team that was in place didn't have the same chemistry as the team that they're inserting, especially Wragge and Hill, who have been paired on the Saturday 'Early Show' for a couple of years.

Yesterday we heard that anchors Harry Smith and Maggie Rodriguez, plus meteorologist Dave Price, had been axed from 'The Early Show' in a major reshuffle of CBS News on-air talent.
Now, executive producer David Friedman has been explaining the reasons behind the sweeping -- and, to many, unexpected -- changes. He told The Hollywood Reporter that although the shakeup came after a lot of careful consideration, "it feels sudden because there are multiple people and it feels like a big deal."
The change of hosts has allegedly been a topic of discussion at CBS News for some time, according to sources, and it reinforces the critical importance of chemistry in morning television. Announcing the new anchors -- Erica Hill and Chris Wragge -- CBS News President Sean McManus said "This new team brings vibrancy, intelligence and warmth that I think America will grow to love.

Did you hear about the earthquake over at The Early Show? CBS News announced a major shakeup at its signature morning news-and-chat program today, including the replacement of cohosts Harry Smith and Maggie Rodriguez with Chris Wragge and Erica Hill, who were previously the weekend team. Does the network think this is the move that will finally push The Early Show ahead of Today and Good Morning America in the ratings? "These shows are about the team," executive producer David Freidman, himself installed only 11 months ago, told the Hollywood Reporter. "It's about finding the right team." "Obviously if things were quote unquote 'working' we wouldn't make...

CBS News abruptly gave "The Early Show" a complete makeover Tuesday, replacing co-hosts Harry Smith and Maggie Rodriguez and installing its current Saturday anchor team of Chris Wragge and Erica Hill. The network is also replacing weather forecaster Dave Price with Marysol Castro, formerly of ABC's "Good Morning America" weekend edition, and adding Jeff Glor as the regular news reader.

Erica Hill's star is rising fast at CBS. In an overhaul of the anchor team at The Early Show, which has been trailing the morning program competition, co-anchors Harry Smith and Maggie Rodriguez and weather anchor Dave Price are out. Hill, who joined The Early Show 10 months ago as news anchor of the weekday program and co-anchor of the weekend edition with Chris Wragge, will now co-anchor the weekday Early Show along with Wragge. Marysol Castro, formerly of ABC's Good Morning America weekend edition, has been tapped as the new weather anchor, while Jeff Glor will serve as news anchor. The changes will go in effect on Jan. 3. "The Early Show is an important element of CBS News," CBS News and Sports president McManus said. "We constantly focus on how to improve the broadcast, and we think we have a terrific combination in Erica, Chris, Jeff and Marysol." According to CBS News' release,...

Our deepest condolences go out to fans of of CBS' "The Early Show," because the morning news broadcast is getting a face-lift. Co-anchors Harry Smith and Maggie Rodriguez and weather forecaster Dave Price are out. So who are their replacements?
CBS is keeping it in the family, promoting Chris Wragge and Erica Hill from the Saturday "Early Show." Hill, who's the current news reader for the weekday show, will relinquish those duties to Jeff Glor, Saturday's "CBS Evening News" anchor and a reporter from "The Early Show." Finally, Marysol Castro, formerly of ABC's "Good Morning America" weekend edition, will take over weather.
"Erica, Chris, Marysol and Jeff are four accomplished broadcasters who already have proven track records and loyal followings," "Early Show" executive producer David Friedman says. "This group is the perfect combination of intelligence and personality for morning television."

"Early Show" anchors Harry Smith and Maggie Rodriguez are out of the low-rated morning show and will be replaced effective Jan. 3 by the Saturday "Early" team of Erica Hill and Chris Wragge, the network announced Tuesday. Morning news has long been a rare weak spot in CBS' lineup, and the overhaul is the show's most dramatic attempt to claim more of the morning audience from ABC's "Good Morning America" and NBC's leading "Today," which draws nearly twice the "Early"audience. Smith joined the show in 2002, as did weather anchor Dave Price,...

According to an AP report that has since been confirmed by a CBS press release, anchor Harry Smith, anchor Maggie Rodriguez have gotten the boot in favor of new co-anchors Chris Wragge and Erica Hill. Martha Stewart's ratings on Hallmark Channel haven't gotten much better as we turn the cyberpage to October. Three weeks into the new season, "Martha" is averaging 187,000 viewers weekdays at 10 a.m. -- down a whopping 60 percent from that timeslot's year-ago average (451,000 viewers). "Martha's" repeat numbers at 4 and 5 p.m. are even worse; down 69 percent and 76 percent, respectively (in total viewers) from the same time last year. In other ratings news, Wednesday's "Judge Pirro" (Jeanine Pirro) topped its timeslot (noon/Ch. 5) in women 25-54; Saturday's "Early Show" (Chris Wragge, Erica Hill) is up...

There's a new film critic gaining all sorts of internet buzz, one who recently showed up on the Early Show offering up his take on the likes of Inception, Ramona and Beezus, and Salt. He's not just some Joe Schmoe off the street. His work can be seen on his website -- Lights, Camera, Jackson, on New York television, Disney radio, and The Record newspaper. He's even won a NY Emmy Award.

The city's TV stations are planning extensive coverage for Pope Benedict XVI's visit to the U.S. next week in Washington and New York.
Univision's local affiliate plans three days of live coverage, from the pope's arrival at JFK airport on April 18 through his April 20 departure. In between, Univision 41 will offer live coverage of the pope's visits to the United Nations, St. Patrick's Cathedral and Yankee Stadium. He'll also stop in at a Yonkers seminary.
English-language stations like WCBS also will cover many of the same events, including all of the public appearances with coverage anchored by Chris Wragge and Kristine Johnson. Some of the events will fall within the regular news program times, but others will pre-empt other programming.
"It's an event of extraordinary importance to our viewers in the tristate area," WCBS vp and news director David Friend said.
WNBC will send an executive producer and two anchors to Washington for the first leg of the pope's trip.
