of Kenesaw M. Landis; he approved the decision for Jackie Robinson to become the first
black player in the modern major leagues.
10/10/39-11/1/45: U.S. senator from Kentucky. Originally appointed to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Senator Marvel Mills Logan. Resigned in 1945 to become Comissioner of Baseball.
1982: Elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame by the Committee on Baseball
