A funny thing happened at HBO Max today. The WarnerMedia streamer has inked with Comedy Central to run all episodes of the cable net’s comedies Chappelle’s Show, Inside Amy Schumer, Key & Peele, Nathan for You and the original Reno 911!
The nonexclusive streaming deal adds to HBO Max’s trove of Comedy Central content that also includes the full South Park series and upcoming seasons of The Other Two and South Side produced by Comedy Central Productions as Max Originals.
As a refresher for the converted or a primer for the uninitiated, here are descriptions of the five series included in the new deal:
Chappelle’S Show
Featuring stand-up, sketch comedy and musical performances, Dave Chappelle takes on culture with a no-holds-barred attitude. And with themes like race and fame at the forefront of the series, nothing is off limits. Creators Chappelle and Neal Brennan executive produced the Emmy-nominated series along with Michelle Armour.

Veteran Full Frontal with Samantha Bee correspondent Amy Hoggart is stepping into the spotlight to lead a new show on TBS. The WarnerMedia cable outlet said today that it has ordered the series that will tackle everyday problems through Hoggart’s unique kaleidoscope of humor.
Blending scripted and unscripted segments, each episode of the nonpolitical Untitled Amy Hoggart Project will tackle an issue that makes American lives harder. Completely underqualified, the wounded wannabe psychologist Hoggart will go to ridiculous lengths to focus on such topics as monogamy and polyamory, friendship and shame –- always aiming to make everyone feel just a little bit better.
Samantha Bee is among the executive producers on the series, and Hoggart — who wrote and starred in the faux-reality series Almost Royal — will continue as a Full Frontal correspondent.

We didn’t know it when docu-helmer Errol Morris (The Thin Blue Line, The Unknown Known) signed up for it last July, but by the looks of several industry players, he might have landed on the best screenplay of the bunch.
The annual “The Black List” unveiled its “favorite unproduced screenplays” of the year, and ranking at the top with a slim margin of a lead was Andrew Sodroski’s Holland, Michigan – a project that should begin lensing in April of next year with Naomi Watts possibly toplining. The second place top vote-getter got a lot more than a set of steak knifes this year. The out-of-nowhere, complete obscurity to huge pay day Section 6 by first time scribe Aaron Berg garnered huge interest towards the end of the year and should be jettisoned into production by the Universal folks – look for big name talent to be attached sometime in...

With all the mindless sequels and reboots that Hollywood has churned out over the last few years, it’s always nice when something original and well-written can break through and get a studio release. Unfortunately, many quality scripts can spend years without ever reaching the right executive to give it the green light. In an effort to make the process a little bit better, former production executive Franklin Leonard started The Black List in 2004. Today, the site announced its ninth annual list of the best unproduced scripts.
To come up with the list, nominations are received from over 250 executives. If a film gets 6 nominations, it gets a spot on the list. The more executives that nominate it, the higher on the list it is. Production for last year’s top film, Draft Day, is underway with the theatrical release scheduled for April, so there’s a pretty good chance that...

British comedian John Oliver has been skewering American media and politics as a writer and correspondent for "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart" since 2006, winning Emmys as part of the show's writing staff in 2009 and 2011. But when will the nativized New Yorker, who recently got his green card, become a U.S. citizen?"It's still too early for that, both legally and emotionally," he says, then laughs. "You know, it would be nice to vote. It is taxation without representation at the moment."In the meantime, Oliver is showing his commitment to comedy in this country by showcasing established and up-and-coming comedians on "John Oliver's New York Stand-Up Show," which returns for its third season July 20 on Comedy Central. Headliners include Hannibal Buress, Marc Maron, Michael Ian Black, Dana Gould, and "The Daily Show's" Wyatt Cenac, and the new season also features rising stars Leo Allen, Kurt Braunohler, Michael.

“New York is a good place to try new material,” standup comic Hannibal Buress says. “There’s so many places to perform, you can do three and four shows in a night.”In addition to his own weekly Sunday-night show at the Knitting Factory in Brooklyn, some of Buress’ favorite low-pressure spots in the city include “Whiplash,” a free workout room hosted by Leo Allen every Monday night at Ucb; “Sweet,” hosted by Seth Herzog every Tuesday at Ella; “Big Terrific,” with Max Silvestri, Gabe Liedman, and Jenny Slate on Wednesday nights at Cameo; and Eugene Mirman’s “Pretty Good Friends” every Sunday night at Union Hall in Brooklyn. He tends to inhabit the downtown clubs in the Village or the Lower East Side rather than Times Square.Just because it’s a good place doesn’t mean he’ll always have a good show, though.“Sometimes the audience isn’t great,...

Washington -- Now that the show is over, the van is going on the road. Star of "Jon Benjamin Has A Van," Jon Benjamin, along with Leo Allen and Nathan Fielder, are headed to the Black Cat Wednesday night.
The voice of Archer from "Archer" and Bob from "Bob's Burgers" and a bunch of other excellent Comedy Central and Adult Swim shows will be presenting his style of anti-comedy. A mixture of filmed pieces, some sketch and mostly stand up, there's a reason the show is being staged at a rock venue and not a comedy club.
The Huffington Post caught up with Benjamin right before he boarded a plane from Boston to D.C.
The Huffington Post:Tonight will be the second night of the tour.
Jon Benjamin: I'm already really exhausted.
HuffPost:Why are you doing the tour?
Benjamin: Sounds like you're trying to talk me out of it.

The Ecny Awards, celebrating the best of the comedic performing arts in New York, were presented Monday night, March 8, at the city's Comix comedy club. Fifteen awards were given out, in categories ranging from best male standup comedian to outstanding achievement in the field of tweeting. For the third year in a row, Jon Friedman ("The Rejection Show," "Late Night With Jimmy Fallon") hosted the show. "It's weird to choose a winner in comedy," Friedman said before the ceremony, comparing the Ecny Awards with the previous night's Academy Awards. "Comedy is so subjective, and any comic can simply have an off night on any given night. Or, as a comic, you can connect with certain people and not at all with others, no matter what day or night it is. Whereas with a film—say, for best picture—that film is exactly the same every time it's shown."Among the...
