Chopper Teams Up With Bd-1 For Two New Star Wars Hot Toys Figures
Image
The cast of Star Wars Rebels is in the midst of a delightful rewatch podcast, and one of the stars of the series just got a new figure to celebrate. Hot Toys has unveiled a new Chopper figure based on his look in the Star Wars animated series, but not one with his signature orange paint job. This new figure features his red, gray, and black Imperial disguise paint job, but there’s an extra surprise to go along with it. The famous droid of Cal Kestis (Cameron Monaghan) from the Star Wars Jedi games, Bd-1, was also given a new Hot Toys figure, and similar to Chopper, it shows the droid in all black and red, looking ready to infiltrate an Imperial base. These two new figures come as part of a set that’s now available for pre-order.

Lewis Black, Tony Hale, Liza Lapira, Amy Poehler, Phyllis Smith, Maya Hawke, Adèle Exarchopoulos, Paul Walter Hauser, and Ayo Edebiri in Inside Out 2 (2024)
FandomWire Predicts 10 Movies Which Will Rule the Box Office in 2025
Lewis Black, Tony Hale, Liza Lapira, Amy Poehler, Phyllis Smith, Maya Hawke, Adèle Exarchopoulos, Paul Walter Hauser, and Ayo Edebiri in Inside Out 2 (2024)
2024 was a soft hum for the industry, but this year is already off to an operatic start. How could Hollywood resist pushing a bunch of sequels down our throats? If last year was an appetizer, with Inside Out 2 and the Deadpool/Wolverine tag team, 2025 is arriving with far more plump (just look at what the Minecraft film was able to do) and impossible missions.

Superheroes are obviously back, as they have continued to do so for the last decade. James Gunn’s Superman will be figuring out life again, and with Marvel’s Phase V coming to an end with Thunderbolts*, the new Fantastic Four reboot will hope to erase the sour taste of its previous attempts.

Maybe this time they’ll get it right? Our fingers remain crossed. James Cameron, meanwhile, isn’t done with blue aliens either, and Avatar 3 will likely demand another three hours of your...

Most of My PS5 Friends Told Me This Xbox Game Pass Day One Title Would Suck, It Just Sold Half a Million Copies in One Day
Image
Okay, let’s talk about the elephant in the room. A new Aaa game from a new studio is getting 500,000 sold copies, that’s some real flex! Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is officially doing great, which might not make everyone happy. I’m looking at you, Ubisoft.

If you have been living under a rock, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is a new RPG developed by Sandfall Interactive, and the gameplay looks like a mix of Like A Dragon, Persona, and Final Fantasy. Despite such heavy competition within the genre itself, Sandfall Interactive has made its first steps on the holy ground of gaming.

Just like people were unhappy about Baldur’s Gate 3‘s success, a similar kind of story is unfolding with Coe 33. I guess that’s a good sign for becoming a contender for Game of the Year 2025.

James Brolin, Rod Steiger, and Margot Kidder in The Amityville Horror (1979)
‘Amityville: The Awakening’ Tips Its Hat to Its Amityville Origins [Murder Made Fiction Podcast]
James Brolin, Rod Steiger, and Margot Kidder in The Amityville Horror (1979)
For the final film of Amityville month on Murder Made Fiction, Jenn and I are checking out Franck Khalfoun’s Amityville: The Awakening, the much maligned Dimension release that was shot in 2014 and eventually dumped on VOD in 2017.

The film, starring Bella Thorne and Cameron Monaghan as twin siblings who move into the Amityville house with their mother (Jennifer Jason Leigh) and younger sister (Mckenna Grace), occupies a strange place in the “franchise” canon.

Unlike most of the other texts, Amityville: The Awakening acknowledges the existence of the other films as films, specifically the 1979 original (listen), the 2005 remake (listen), and the incest-heavy prequel/sequel (listen). Admittedly Khalfoun’s script doesn’t go much further than that, descending into pretty basic/generic ‘Amityville haunting’ territory, but it’s an interesting wrinkle in what was clearly intended to be a theatrical re-launch for the “series.”

The other reason to explore this particular...

Tron: Ares leaves the digital world, creates jetwall of silence for a real one
Image
The mind-blowing aspect of Tron when it first hit theaters in July 1982 was that it portrayed a world inside a video game—a true digital world. Watching Jeff Bridges as "Flynn" jump from game to game in a completely abstract universe required imagination. Yet, no one could conceptualize the idea of that cybernetic world leaving the mainframe of a video game and entering the streets of suburbia.

That's what makes the trailer to Tron: Ares so fulfilling. The second of the trilogy, Tron: Legacy, was woefully underrated. The score, graphics, and direct connection to the original almost 30 years later was mesmerizing. Fans waiting 15 years after that were biting their collective lip until blood rushed out of their nose pending what Jared Leto would bring.

It didn't disappoint at all.

Ares declares war

In 90 seconds, fans of the franchise got everything that was needed to make this fulfilling—a score, graphics,...

'Tron 3' Director Compares Jared Leto's Antagonist to Disney's Pinocchio
Image
Tron: Ares director Joachim Rønning has drawn an interesting comparison between Jared Leto's antagonist in Tron 3 and a beloved Disney icon. Many would perhaps presume that Ares — the rogue A.I. at the center of the story — would be similar to the classic villains featured in Disney's Hall of Infame, such as Jafar, Scar, or even Captain Hook, but that is not the case. Rønning told Empire that the Ares computer program has slightly more complex coding than a traditional baddie, making him more like Pinocchio than anyone else.

"Not to be too clichéd, but I always thought about him a bit like Pinocchio. Ares wants to be a real boy. We talked a lot about him almost being an infant, discovering the world for the first time, and how we wanted the audience to see the world through his eyes. The little things that we take for granted,...

Tron: Ares director teases Jared Leto’s character: “I always thought about him a bit like Pinocchio”
Image
After a successful debut at CinemaCon, the first teaser trailer for Tron: Ares was released over the weekend, giving us our first taste of the Grid in fifteen years. The sequel follows a highly sophisticated program, Ares, who is sent from the digital world into the real world on a dangerous mission, marking humankind’s first encounter with A.I. beings. Jared Leto plays Ares, and director Joachim Rønning spilled a few details about the character while speaking with Empire.

“Not to be too clichéd, but I always thought about him a bit like Pinocchio,” Rønning said. “Ares wants to be a real boy. We talked a lot about him almost being an infant, discovering the world for the first time, and how we wanted the audience to see the world through his eyes. The little things that we take for granted, or don’t see anymore. That was important.

"Not to be too clichéd, but I always thought about him a bit like Pinocchio," the filmmaker explained. "Ares wants to be a real boy. We talked a lot about him almost being an infant, discovering the world for the first time, and how we wanted the audience to see the world through his eyes.

Jeff Bridges, Olivia Wilde, and Garrett Hedlund in Tron: Legacy (2010)
Over a decade and change since Tron: Legacy, the trailer for Tron: Ares suggests the franchise might be on track.

The story is said to pick up narrative threads left from 2010’s Tron: Legacy. This new film will focus on ‘a highly sophisticated program names Ares (Jared Leto) who is sent from the digital world into the real world on a dangerous mission, marking humankind’s first encounter with AI beings.’

If the thought of Jared Leto playing an AI being doesn’t float your boat (he has Jeff Bridges’ seal of approval), there’s still plenty...

Tron: Ares Trailer And Poster See Morbius Star Jared Leto Bring The Grid Into The Real World
Image
The first trailer for Tron: Ares has finally arrived (via SFFGazette.com), and this time, The Grid is coming to our world. It's unique approach to the movie and one we've known about for a while now. The benefit to that is it's given fans of the long-running sci-fi franchise time to get used to the idea.

It's quite something to see those classic Tron visuals in a regular city, even if it is with a new red colour scheme in place of that trademark blue. Unsurprisingly, the cops are no match for a Light Cycle.

The sneak peek doesn't reveal much, though we get plenty of action, what look like world-ending stakes, and a first proper look at Jared Leto's A.I. program unmasked; spoiler alert: he looks just like Jared Leto, long hair, beard, and all. The teaser ends with Jeff Bridges' Kevin Flynn saying, "Ready? 'Cuz there's no going back.

Fifteen years after the last Tron film, it’s time to take the light cycles for a spin again as Disney has shared the new trailer for Tron: Ares, the third installment in the sci-fi series.

The trailer takes place mostly in that real world, with haunting footage of massive game tech (and lightcycles) crashing into reality while new characters played by Greta Lee and Evan Peters look on in horror.

The trailer also gives us a first listen at new music by Nine Inch Nails. While Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross have been scoring films for over a decade (and won Oscars for them), they’re billed here as “Nine Inch Nails,” taking over music duties for Daft...

Tron: Ares First Footage Officially Released Ahead Of New Trailer Set To Be Released Tomorrow
Image
Disney shared a 5-minute sneak peek of Tron: Ares with CinemaCon attendees in Las Vegas yesterday afternoon. However, we don't have much longer to wait before getting our first proper look at the long-awaited Tron and Tron: Legacy follow-up.

The studio has shared a brief teaser for the movie (via SFFGazette.com), confirming that the full trailer will arrive tomorrow.

At CinemaCon, lead star Jared Leto reiterated that this movie will bring Tron into the real world, and the aforementioned preview showed Ares on his red-tinged light cycle zooming through a real city pursued by police cars who are no match for his speed.

There's some scepticism surrounding Tron: Ares, no great surprise when that first instalment remains so beloved. The same could have been said about Legacy once upon a time, though, and fans have been demanding a follow-up to that for years.

“Well, first off, as a kid I was obsessed with Tron,” said Leto. “It was the ‘80s and the future felt like it was just around the corner. … Tron had action, adventure, spandex — lots of spandex.

Why Gotham was cancelled by Fox (and why season 6 didn't happen)
Image
If you actively kept up with the DC TV era, then you were living. Being a fan of the comic book genre at a time when superheroes were making their presence felt all across television was truly an unforgettable experience, and you could pretty much find a DC or Marvel show on each night of the week on broadcast TV. Considering that there are none on broadcast now, that really highlights what a once-in-a-lifetime kind of experience the 2010s were.

Although the majority of DC TV programming came from The CW's Arrowverse, there was one DC show on another network. That was Batman prequel Gotham, which aired on Fox and ran for five seasons. Starring David Mazouz as a young Bruce Wayne and Ben McKenzie as Detective James Gordon, the show had a mostly successful run, entertaining Bat-fans with its outlandish and off-the-wall plot developments each and every week.

10 Major DC Storylines The Almost Happened In Gotham's 5 Seasons
Image
The rich world of Gotham was full of twists, betrayals, and iconic character arcs, but some major DC storylines were planned and never made it to screen. Gotham proffered a thrilling glimpse into James Gordon’s early days in the Gotham City Police Department, offering origin stories for several classic characters and narratives from the Dcu timeline. However, there were several planned storylines that were dropped from the show, despite being planned or pitched.

Gotham, the TV series that delved into the origins of Batman’s mythos, aired for five seasons from 2014 to 2019. While it enjoyed a dedicated audience, the show faced challenges, including its fifth and final season being cut short. Originally intended to span a full 22 episodes, the last season was compressed into just 12, forcing showrunners to condense or abandon various storylines. Beyond this, some plotlines were scrapped because of viewer reactions, character popularity, or evolving creative decisions.

Star Wars Jedi: Cameron Monaghan's Cal Kestis Again Rumored To Make Live-Action Debut In Upcoming Project
Image
The popularity of the Star Wars Jedi video games has led to continued speculation that the Force-wielding protagonist, Cal Kestis, might one day make the leap to the big or small screen.

We've heard on multiple occasions that Gotham star Cameron Monaghan is likely to reprise this role in a live-action setting in the not-too-distant future. A third game is on the way, of course, but as that series is set between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, it would be easy for an older Cal to make his presence felt in, say, the "Mandoverse," for example.

According to Daniel Richtman (via SFFGazette.com), Lucasfilm does finally have firm plans to bring Cal into a live-action Star Wars project, though there's no word on which one that will be.

The Mandalorian and Grogu would be a fitting place to introduce the Jedi to audiences, especially with Dave Filoni...

Star Wars Outlaws struggles to keep pace as Jedi: Survivor outsells
Image
The galaxy far, far away hasn’t been kind to Star Wars Outlaws. Despite being Ubisoft’s first foray into open-world Star Wars, the game has failed to meet sales expectations, and recent reports indicate it’s being outsold by Respawn Entertainment’s Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.

When Star Wars Outlaws launched in August 2024, early reviews praised its expansive environments and compelling narrative. Players stepped into the shoes of Kay Vess, a scrappy rogue navigating the galactic underworld, but enthusiasm for the game quickly faltered. Criticisms of its combat and stealth mechanics dampened the initial hype, and while Ubisoft worked to address these issues through patches, the damage was already done.

The financial consequences have been significant. By September, Ubisoft admitted that Star Wars Outlaws had underperformed commercially, and the company’s stock took a sharp hit shortly after the game’s release. These struggles have fueled speculation about Ubisoft’s future,...

Insider Claims Lucasfilm Is Working on Cal Kestis’ Live-Action Debut
Image
Lucasfilm is reportedly planning to bring Cal Kestis, the protagonist from the Star Wars Jedi video games, into a live-action project that could be a movie or a Disney+ series. Daniel Richtman, a well-known industry insider, shared this information on his Patreon account.

It’s unclear if Cameron Monaghan, who portrays Cal in the games, will reprise his role in the live-action adaptation. Given his strong connection to the character, many hope he will.

The timeline of the Star Wars Jedi games is set around 9 Bby (Before the Battle of Yavin). In contrast, series like The Mandalorian and Ahsoka occur approximately nine years after A New Hope. This difference in timelines might influence how Cal’s character is integrated into live-action storytelling.

Jon Favreau, co-creator of The Mandalorian, has previously addressed the possibility of incorporating characters from the Star Wars Jedi series into live-action. While he appreciates the rich stories from various Star Wars media,...
