Shakira has spoken about her new life after splitting from her partner of 11 years, former Barcelona footballer Gerard Piqué.
The 46-year-old Colombian singer recently teamed up with Argentinian DJ Bizarrap to release her latest song, titled “Shakira: Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol 53”.
The lyrics of the song quickly made headlines as she appears to pointedly blast both her ex-boyfriend and his new girlfriend, Clara Chia.
During a recent appearance on the Mexican programme En Punto con Enrique Acevedo, Shakira was asked about the debate surrounding the song, which fans have labelled a “diss track”.
“I bought the story that a woman needs a man to be complete. I had that dream of having a [nuclear] family: mother and a father living with their children living under the same roof. Not every dream in life comes true, but life finds a way to make it up to you,” the “She Wolf” singer responded,...

“We didn’t learn the lessons that were so brightly clear 75 years ago,” proclaims Dror Moreh, the director behind the documentary “The Corridors of Power.” The film is a brutal and frank look at the role that politics has played in America’s response–or lack of a response– to the numerous instances of genocide that have occurred since the end of the Cold War.
For Moreh, who earned an Oscar nomination for his 2012 documentary feature “The Gatekeepers,” the film is a call for citizens to push their political leaders towards intervention, rather than being merely bystanders to atrocities. Watch more of our exclusive video interview above.

In The Corridors of Power, filmmaker Dror Moreh takes a bracing look at the factors that kept America — the sole remaining superpower in the immediate post-Cold War era — from intervening in global instances involving genocide, war crimes and other large-scale atrocities.
“The idea of the movie started, basically, when I saw the horrible picture that came out from Syria, especially after the chemical attack [in 2013], especially after the Syrian regime has crossed Obama’s red line,” Moreh revealed during Deadline’s Contenders Film: Documentary awards-season panel, noting that President Barack Obama had indicated that the U.S. would commit to opposing the Assad regime. “So I asked myself: What goes on in those decision-making rooms when they decide to intervene in one place, but not the other, or they don’t decide?”

First nominated for Best Documentary Feature at the Oscars with the 2012 film “The Gatekeepers,” director Dror Moreh could return to the awards race 10 years later with “The Corridors of Power.” The new film from Showtime combines in-depth interviews with rare archival footage and CGI animations to examine how American leaders have responded to reports of genocide, war crimes and mass atrocities after the fall of the Soviet Union.
Among those interviewed are five figures who served as Secretary of State: James Baker, Madeleine Albright, Colin Powell, Condoleezza Rice and Hillary Clinton. In his review for The Washington Post, Michael O’Sullivan describes the effectiveness of the interviews: “The discussions that take place on camera, in tastefully appointed suites, are frank and often offer fascinating insights into these dilemmas. "Do you want justice? Or peace? You can't have both." A very provocative statement, but it's true. Showtime has debuted an official trailer for a new documentary film from acclaimed director Dror Moreh titled The Corridors of Power, which first premiered at the 2022 Telluride Film Festival a few months ago. It's also playing at the Doc NYC Film Festival happening right now in NYC, before opening in limited theaters later this month. The doc film is a riveting and thought-provoking examination of how American leaders have responded to reports of genocide, war crimes and mass atrocities after the fall of the Soviet Union, when America stood as the only global superpower. I'm glad it takes a hard-hitting stance: "With affecting archival footage and extensive interviews, the film centers around former Un Ambassador Samantha Power's haunting question: Why do American leaders who vow 'never again' repeatedly fail to stop genocide?...

During Variety‘s Power of Women dinner, presented by Lifetime, on Wednesday, Hillary and Chelsea Clinton spoke, and the former secretary of state took the Iranian government to task.
“I could not stand up here tonight without also recognizing the brave women in Iran who are standing up for their rights, their freedom against a horrific regime who stays in power in large measure because they oppress women,” Clinton said. “And I could not stand here without thinking about the women in Afghanistan who are being deprived of education, or the women on the front lines in Ukraine who are trying to defend their country against the barbarity of Putin’s invasion.”
“So we have a lot of work to do,” she continued. “It’s work in our own country to keep our progress going and not let the clock be turned back, and it’s also caring about the rest of the world.

An exceptional and, one might venture, unprecedented group of politicians, diplomats, policy wonks, elected officials and veteran Washington insiders expound on the effectiveness of international military intervention—and the lack thereof—in The Corridors of Power. Israeli director Dror Moreh made one of the great political documentaries of recent times in The Gatekeepers (2012), as well as the excellent The Human Factor (2019), and this time he has assembled an all-star cast of more than 30 political heavyweights including Henry Kissinger, Hilary Clinton, George Shultz, Madeleine Albright and Condoleeza Rice, who in deep, original interviews, help to build a picture of how and why the best intentions can come unglued. The film deserves to be seen in any and all venues by audiences interested in the state of the world and clarity about how we got here.

Dror Moreh, the Oscar-nominated director of The Gatekeepers and another doc about the Middle East, The Human Factor, broadens his scope productively in his new documentary, The Corridors of Power, which had its world premiere screenings in Telluride. Doreh assembled an impressive array of diplomats from several administrations over the past 40 years, and he comes up with a deeply disturbing examination of genocide during recent decades.
The film opens by recalling the Nazi genocide of the Jews, with a reminder of how little the United States did to try and halt the slaughter. After the war ended and the United Nations was formed, the cry of “Never again!” echoed throughout the world. Given the dark side of human nature, that was always an optimistic credo, but people probably did not realize how many horrific instances of genocide would emerge in the decades that followed,...

While Netflix had a lot to celebrate after Sunday night’s Golden Globes wins, one superstar collaborator was not joining in the toasting. Taylor Swift took to social media Monday morning to join in complaints already being made by her fans about a line on the series “Ginny & Georgia” that the singer called “lazy,” “deeply sexist” and “horse shit.”
“Hey Ginny & Georgia, 2010 called and it wants its lazy, deeply sexist joke back,” Swift wrote. “How about we stop degrading hard working women by defining this horse shit as FuNnY. ALso, @netflix after Miss Americana this outfit doesn’t look cute on you.” She inserted a broken-heart emoji. “Happy Women’s History Month I guess,” she sarcastically added.
Swift attached a screen shot of a black screen with a subtitled line from the show: “What do you care? You go through men faster than Taylor Swift.”

As the world seems like it is aflame with a pandemic, divisive rhetoric from an oppressive administration and the unjust killing of Black lives at the hands of police officers, hope seems dim. However, there are voices and role models in the world that are fighting for change and on the frontlines fighting against 45, his henchmen and ardent supporters. Enter Stacey Abrams who is essentially the star of the Liz Garbus and Lisa Cortés documentary All In: The Fight For Democracy, which debuts in theaters on September 9 and then on September 18 on Amazon Prime Video — just four days before National Voter Registration Day.
The docu comes as the 2020 presidential is just around the corner and puts a glaring spotlight on the wildly overlooked issue of voter suppression in the country. Through personal experiences, activism and historical All In rips the band-aid off of a problem that has corrupted our democracy...

Former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright discussed the qualities of leadership needed during a time of crisis in an interview with Trevor Noah on The Daily Show Monday.
The interview began with Albright recalling her childhood in England during World War II and discussing the trust the people had in the government when it came to keeping themselves and each other safe, even if that meant sleeping in the cellar of an apartment building for maximum protection during air raids. The willingness to do all that, Albright said, stemmed directly...

Spoler Alert: Madam Secretary ended its six season run with President Elizabeth McCord (Tea Leoni) and first husband Henry (Tim Daly) kissing on the back of a caboose, as the residents of a small town cheer and the train pulls away.

That the show ended onboard a whistlestop tour, a remant of a bygone and simpler era, was an apt way to wrap the series. The show’s hopeful tone and neatly wrapped scenarios often were an alternate political universe to the cynical and polarized Trump years.
That was especially true of McCord’s policy agenda. Also in the final episode, McCord was joined by members of the World Cup Champion U.S. Women’s Soccer team,...

Earlier this month, President Trump declared a national emergency under the guise that undocumented immigrants represent a security threat to the United States. On Monday, a bipartisan group of 58 former national security officials released a statement explaining why the action is unwarranted. “Under no plausible assessment of the evidence is there a national emergency today that entitles the president to tap into funds appropriated for other purposes to build a wall at the southern border,” the group wrote.

Hollywood women made history Thursday and Friday.
With 1,500 women from all across the media and entertainment industry, the Power Women Summit was the largest gathering ever of women in Hollywood aimed at moving forward on the goal of achieving gender equity in entertainment and media.
Let’s take a moment and grasp what that means. Women in Hollywood are not like any other group that may be gathering across the country for a purpose. The critical mass of women at this event were the nation’s storytellers. The creators of our popular culture. The shapers of “what’s cool” for our children. The journalists who decide what is news. The celebrities and social media influencers who model trends, behaviors, catch phrases and the next big thing.

Updated with video: “Real sadness as well as anger, I must say, motivated me,” Barbra Streisand told Bill Maher about the act of making her new album, Walls.
“I couldn’t sleep nights. The photographs in my head – the pictures of the children being ripped out of the arms of their parents,” she explained on HBO’s Real Time with Bill Maher.
People voting often “don’t know the specifics, but they kind of sense whether you are for real,” Maher described. “Not everybody, even in my own audience, agrees with me on stuff. But the bond is that they know I’m never pulling a punch. I’m always being straight with them. … It’s very powerful. And when you’re like that, you can be friends with other side.”
Maher noted that Streisand recently got a call from 1996 Gop presidential nominee Bob Dole — who, Maher confessed, he did not realize was still alive.

What a way to kick things off.
As if having not one, not two, but three former Secretaries of State on Madam Secretary Season 5 Episode 1 wasn't enough, the cast and writers delivered a hell of a story.
The part about pulling off nuclear disarmament on the Indian subcontinent was impressive, and Timeless alum Sakina Jeffrey shone, but that's not what I'm talking about here.
The crisis du jour was the least interesting and least important part of "E Pluribus Unum." What resonated was the argument against nationalism, the argument for unity.
Watching Elizabeth's closing speech was damn near like watching Martin Sheen deliver a monologue on The West Wing during the Sorkin years. It almost made you wonder if he'd been hired as a ghostwriter.

Hillary Clinton made a surprise cameo appearance on the premiere of the “Murphy Brown” revival Thursday night, making several jokes at her own expense.
At the beginning of the episode, Candice Bergen’s Murphy Brown interviews a new candidate for a “secretarial position.” Enter Hillary, who says she spells her name with just one “L,” and insists she just looks like the ex-Secretary of State.
“Hilary” references one of Hillary Clinton’s 2016 campaign blurbs, saying “I’m qualified, and I’m ready on day one,” and quips that she has “some experience with emails.” The she adds that her experience includes four years as a secretary in “a very large organization.” And of course, “Hilary” also references one of Clinton’s books, saying that in a TV news production, “everyone works together. It takes a village.” Wokka wokka wokka.
