Madam Secretary is losing a series regular ahead of its final season.
TV Line is reporting that Sara Ramirez is stepping down as a series regular, but there's hope that she could return for a guest appearance to wrap up her character's storyline.
Ramirez has played Kat Sandoval on the political drama since the fourth season. She was drafted in to replace Bebe Neuwirth, who played Nadine Tolliver.
If you watch Madam Secretary online, you know that Kat had left the world of politics behind prior to Elizabeth managing to bring her back into it.
Ramirez is best known for her role on the ABC medical juggernaut Grey's Anatomy. She departed the series after over a decade in the role in 2016.

Exclusive: For five seasons, Michael Kelly has played Chief of Staff Doug Stamper on House of Cards. And for five seasons, Kelly has impressed — and earned multiple Emmy nominations — for his role as the cold and calculated foot soldier for Kevin Spacey’s Frank Underwood. As Kelly enters the sixth and final season as Doug, he talked to Deadline about his character’s journey through the five seasons, the changes for him in the new season, how Kevin Spacey’s exit lit a fire underneath him and the cast, and how it feels for the groundbreaking show to come to an end.
“It’s bittersweet,” he said about House of Cards’ final hurrah. “I had such love for this show for so many reasons…the crew is one of the greatest crew I ever worked in my life. They became my second family.” He added, “I can honestly say that my last day,...

Alert the Diplomatic Security Service: There will be four U.S. Secretaries of State on the Season 5 premiere of Madam Secretary.
CBS said today that Madeleine Albright, Hillary Clinton and Colin Powell will appear in the October 7 episode as Elizabeth McCord (Téa Leoni) turns to the former State leaders to ask their advice on how to respond to a delicate situation.
The trio filmed their scenes on July 11, and Albright — America’s first female Secretary of State, who served under President Clinton from 1997-2001 — tweeted this today:
It was great to be back on the set of @MadamSecretary with @tealeoni. It is always nice to consult with my successors. The episode will air on #CBS on October 7. pic.twitter.com/68NFcJLMGc

Powell led the State Department from 2001-05 under President George W. Bush, and Hillary Clinton served as Secretary of State from 2009-13 under President Obama.

CBS still hasn't cancelled its Madam Secretary TV show, despite Nielsen ratings declines in both its 18-49 year old demo and total viewership numbers. In the 2016-17 television season, this show's demo ratings ranked 20th out of 26 scripted CBS series, but it drew enough viewers to rank eighth in terms of audience size. Although the Tiffany Network's viewers tend to skew older, how long will this show's performance suffice? Since the fourth season should give it a decent sized package to sell in syndication, will Madam Secretary be cancelled or renewed for season five? Stay tuned. I really hope none of you have heart conditions.
Because if you do, the adrenaline inducing Madam Secretary Season 4 Episode 22 may not be medically advised for your viewing pleasure. On the other hand, it can't be more stressful that reality.
In a world where America has, at best, engaged in a mad-man strategy with another nuclear power or, at worst, has given the nuclear codes to a senile, paranoid isolationist, discussing the merits of nuclear readiness is probably a good idea.
I'm really curious to hear what other viewers thought about time jumping back and forth as we saw different pieces of the story from different viewpoints.
I'm usually up for shaking things up and trying innovative approaches to story telling, but I thought this attempt fell flat.
It wasn't that it was a bad idea, per se, but it was awkwardly executed. The jumps back weren't consistent, and some...

The Tiffany Network is still with her. CBS has renewed its Madam Secretary TV show for a fifth season. This was a real squeaker. You can't make these kind of atrocities up.
Sadly, Madam Secretary Season 4 Episode 14 is based pretty strongly in fact. Names and locations were changed to prevent international incident, but honestly, it was barely disguised.
The production team really did their research on Chechen President Ramzan Kadyrov when they created Nuri Lakoba. The wardrobe team even flat out copied his hideous camo sweatsuit.
Hell, the only thing they could have done to make the allusion clearer would have been to have a "Missing Cat" poster in the background.
I guess that would have been a little difficult to fit into the SVTCs window.

Kadyrov even actually said "We don't have any gays," so the writers didn't even have to make that up. I'm surprised they didn't use actual footage of survivors; it's certainly available and would have been even more impactful.

In college, I used to roll my eyes when my good friend, Courtney, welled up while watching NBC’s critically acclaimed White House drama The West Wing.
“Are you crying because something happened, or are you just crying because of America?” I’d ask sarcastically. I was a casual viewer, and usually hadn’t paid much attention to what President Bartlet and his team were up to on any given week.

Convincing an arms dealer to negotiate a temporary peace treaty between two of his clients is nothing getting your kids into college.
Elizabeth took multitasking to a whole new level on Madam Secretary Season 3 Episode 19 as she managed to broker a deal to save thousand from starvation and still "be" with the family for the reveal of Ali's big news.
While the nitty-gritty of implementing a cease fire through back channels and arranging aid for thousands of people was interesting, and tracking terrorists provides high stakes, it was the McCord home life that stole the show.
Henry and Elizabeth's relationship is clearly the bedrock of Madame Secretary, but I loved how this really broke down how they parent, and how they make their family work. It doesn't just happen. It's a coordinated effort, a deliberate exercise, not just a series of off the cuff reactions.
But I think the key...
