A Historic Collaboration Takes Stage In an event that harmonizes the beats of hip-hop with the grandeur of classical music, Cypress Hill is set to perform alongside the London Symphony Orchestra (Lso). This pairing, seemingly foretold by a The Simpsons episode, has now transcended fiction to grace the stage at the iconic Royal Albert Hall. The collaboration is not only a testament to Cypress Hill’s enduring influence but also to Lso’s versatility in embracing diverse musical genres. From Animated Joke to Musical Reality The seeds of this surreal partnership were sown in a 1996 The Simpsons episode titled ‘Homerpalooza’, where

Finally, after nearly 30 years, we will get an answer to a famous question that’s resonated through the annals of television history: Who ordered the London Symphony Orchestra — possibly while high?
Well, it was Cypress Hill in the famous Simpsons episode, “Homerpalooza,” and now it’s Cypress Hill in real life. The hip-hop outfit will actually take the stage with the London Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Troy Miller, to perform symphonic versions of their biggest hits. The show will take place July 10 at no less a venue than Royal Albert Hall,...

George Brown, the drummer who gave Kool & the Gang its propulsive, infection beats, died Thursday after a battle with cancer, a Universal Music Enterprises spokesperson announced. He was 74.
Brown — whose nickname was “Funky” — was one of seven school friends from Jersey City, New Jersey, who came together in 1964 as an instrumental-only jazz and soul group calling itself the Jazziacs. Other members included Robert “Kool” Bell on bass, brother Ronald Bell on keyboards and Charles Smith on guitar.
The band went through several name changes, including the New Dimensions, the Soul Town Band and Kool & the Flames before settling on Kool & the Gang, the name that would become famous worldwide, in 1969. They signed to De-Lite records and released their first LP, the all-instrumental Kool and the Gang, in 1970. By 1973, they incorporated emerging disco trends in its sound, cracking the U.S. Top 10 with “Jungle Boogie” in 1973 and “Hollywood Swinging” in 1974.

Film fans talk about the 1990s as another Golden Age of cinema. Not only is there the jam-packed year of 1999, which gave us classics such as The Matrix, Toy Story 2, and The Talented Mr. Ripley, but the 90s also saw the rise of new auteurs, including Quentin Tarantino, Paul Thomas Anderson, David Fincher, and Guillermo del Toro. Hollywood turned its attention to indie and foreign films, enriching a moviegoing experience that still featured fan-favorite blockbusters.
But to really see how good the 90s were, we can’t just look at the hits. Rather, the flops tell us the true tale of the decade’s quality – the movies that audiences skipped at the time but have proven their worth in the years that followed. Here are the best flops of the 1990s; films that couldn’t find a wide enough audience upon release, but still deserve attention today.

Trueno is honoring 50 years of hip-hop by working with rap legends Cypress Hill on a remixed version of the Argentine star’s “Fuck el Police,” which originally interpolated and sampled N.W.A.’s classic cop protest song “Fuck tha Police” 35 years later.

Ever a man of extremes, Eric Andre, who by all accounts buffed up into the best shape of his life as a bit for the new season of his late-night prank show, shows up to our interview in a bright green Newport Cigarettes tracksuit.
“I’m polluting my body yet again,” Andre tells Den of Geek magazine. “I don’t think I’ve ever had a Newport in my life. [Laughs] I’m a poser. I’m a fraud.”
When we meet Andre, he’s a handful of days into a trip to Austin, Texas, where Adult Swim screened two episodes of The Eric Andre Show’s sixth season on the opening day of the SXSW Comedy Festival to a raucous sell-out crowd with supporting sets from his new co-host Felipe Esparza and comedian friend Reggie Watts.

It must be a daunting task to try to prank pop music’s reigning troll, but Eric Andre sure gave it his best shot. Lil Nas X had quite the visit at The Eric Andre Show, as you can see from a sneak-peek clip of the upcoming Season 6 premiere episode (via Rolling Stone).
Complete with a saucy new hairdo and decór reminiscent of an ’80s porno set, Andre welcomed Lil Nas X with a roar of audience applause and a jingle from the in-house band. The pair hardly had a moment to chat before a strange, screaming presence began bulging out of Andre’s desk like it was the haunted TV screen in Videodrome.
The host eventually got things back on track — that is, until some unidentified substance began misting from his microphone and made him very, very sleepy. A prankster himself, Lil Nas X surely knew what he was getting himself into,...

Between whippets, comedian Eric André dished on the upcoming sixth season of The Eric André Show at SXSW — his chaotic, everything-and-the-kitchen-sink late-night talk show wherein he gleefully terrorizes celebrity guests and regular folks alike. Who can forget the time Lauren Conrad sprinted out of his studio after André started lapping up his own vomit? Or rapper T.I. bolting when confronted by a plethora of full-frontal male nudity?
“I realized the hard way that the more violent a prank is doesn’t mean it’s necessarily better,” André told Rolling Stone.

I’m starting to get a bit worried for Eric André’s health. We’re huddled together at a bar in Austin, Texas, during SXSW, where the gonzo comedian typically holds court, and he’s sucked in about a half-dozen whip-its thus far, laughing maniacally and locking eyes with me each time his big, blue balloon fills with nitrous oxide. It feels like a test of my equanimity; like I’m one of the guests on his hilariously demented Adult Swim series The Eric André Show that he delights in startling.

Attorneys for the family of slain rapper Drakeo the Ruler said Thursday they intend to file a wrongful death lawsuit against the promoters of the concert where he was stabbed to death.
Update: The family filed today, Feb. 2, 2022. The complete legal documents are here at 22STCV04087
Live Nation, Bobby Dee Presents, and C3 Presents did not provide adequate security at the event, the attorneys claimed to the Los Angeles Times in announcing their legal plans. “This would have never happened if those promoters had had the proper security protocol. He claimed a lawsuit will be filed next week against the promoters seeking upward of $20 million, he said.

Ultra Music Festival once again took over Miami’s Bayfront Park last weekend, delivering a solid three days of non-stop music curated by a host of world renowned DJs and performers. The horror is literally bone-chilling in The Dark Below, Douglas Schulze's thriller set on—and beneath—a frozen lake, and viewers will have a chance to see the movie in select theaters this March courtesy of Parade Deck Films.
Press Release: Parade Deck Films to release Survival Thriller The Dark Below. In Select Theaters March 10, 2017
Parade Deck Films is excited to announce the upcoming theatrical release of festival favorite The Dark Below.
For his fourth and most daring film, director Douglas Schulze (Mimesis, Dark Fields) brings us The Dark Below. This tense, fear driven film utilizes minimal dialog, portrays a woman (Lauren Mae Shafer) struggling for survival beneath a frozen lake while a serial killer (David G.B. Brown) stalks her from the surface.
“I got involved with this project because Doug Schulze knows genre and he knows film. In todays environment, The Dark Below is different. It is a...

Here's to the Golden Globes – what other award show would bring Meryl Streep onstage for a lifetime-achievement tribute and then have the orchestra salute her with Abba's "Mamma Mia"? A perfect moment to sum up everything the Globes stand for: finding the cheese lining in any artistic cloud. That's the saving grace of this dippiest and drunkest of award shows. Nobody cares who wins; all that matters at this TV party is locking the stars up together in the Beverly Hills Hilton, getting them ripped on free booze and...

Say what you will about Ricky Gervais, but when the provocative comedian presided over the Golden Globes, you never forgot who was hosting.
After a pre-recorded opening video, parading stars of trendy TV and movies through yet another “I’m trapped in Los Angeles traffic, what do I do?” bit (this time with a timely parody of “La La Land’s” opening number), host Jimmy Fallon may as well have stayed in his car. An accident prompted him to do just that, when the teleprompter that was supposed to display his opening monologue went blank during the first few minutes of the live show. When it came back on, what followed — a pianist/penis joke about Ryan Gosling, a Chris Rock impression, and a few easy quips about Donald Trump — were largely, limp, predictable jokes without the edge of Gervais or the wit of Poehler and Fey; jokes that were...

Jimmy Fallon hosted the 74th Annual Golden Globe Awards on Sunday, January 8, and after a pre-taped opening number parodying “La La Land,” his monologue took on President-Elect Donald Trump, Putin and the year 2016. Though he was mostly absent from the proceedings, he returned intermittently throughout the night to crack wise.

Well, another Golden Globes have come and gone. We’re a little older and a little wiser and we probably have a better idea of who’s going to win the Oscars. And we have a few Jimmy Fallon jokes to quote in the morning. Here are some of his best moments from the show:
Fallon’s buzzed-about, pre-recorded opening number included a guest-rapped verse from Millie Bobby Brown and a Justin Timberlake-backed dance routine, but he held something back for the monologue, peppering his cold open with lines establishing the Globes as “one of the few places left...

Earlier this month, when Vanilla Ice announced via Twitter that he was boldly defying instructions to evacuate his Florida home in the face of Hurricane Matthew, it not only inspired what had to be the greatest (and possibly also the most depressing) tweet ever made by the Florida Democratic Party, but it also made one hope that it might really be a sneaky promo for an upcoming Weather Channel series wherein the rapper and reality TV star goes head to head with natural disasters.

Prophets of Rage dropped a self-titled single right before the start of the Republican National Convention in Cleveland where the supergroup will be competing against the Gop with its concert Tuesday night. The single from amalgamated members of Public Enemy, Rage Against the Machine and Cypress Hill re-imagines P.E.’s 1988 anthem “Prophets of Rage,” starting off with a distinctive air raid siren before going into a military march drumbeat and then a head-banging guitar riff. With the electronic pulse familiar from "The Social Network," "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo," and "Gone Girl" (all composed with Trent Reznor) heightened nearly to the breaking point, the new Ep has us even more excited for "Triple 9" (Open Road, February 26). The hands-on Hillcoat "had a particular vision for the music on this movie, which was raw sounding electronics accompanied by, bizarrely, a saxophone," according to Ross. "John wanted to avoid ‘sophistication’ and capture the excitement of hands-on performances with noisy, broken machines.” The collaborators succeeded: the first track, the cleverly titled "Ticking Glock," is intense enough to rouse you from even the deepest mid-afternoon malaise. The Ep, co-created with Bobby Krlic, Leopold Ross, and Claudia Sarne, also features Ross' remix of Cypress Hill's 1991 'Pigs.' All of Ross' profits from the song will be donated to the National...

CB4
Directed by Tamra Davis
Written by Nelson George, Robert LoCash and Chris Rock
1993, USA
Back in 1993, two low-budget mockumentary-style comedies based on Gangsta Rap were released. The better of the two is Rusty Cundieff’s Canadian indie gem Fear of a Black Hat, chronicling the rise and fall of Nwh, a not particularly talented but always controversial hip-hop group. The second was CB4, about the rise to fame of Mc Gusto, Stab Master Arson, and Dead Mike, members of the rap group Cell Block 4. The similarities between the two are uncanny, so much so that one would think someone got their greedy hands on the other script and decided to shamefully steal the idea.
Written by music critic Nelson George and Saturday Night Live’s Chris Rock (who also plays the lead role of Albert, a k a Mc Gusto), this spoof on gangsta rap targets controversial rap groups (specifically N.W.A.) and deliberately provocative,...

Rob counts down the top 50 episodes of TV's longest-running animated series, The Simpsons...
Since its debut in 1989, across 552 episodes and 25 seasons, The Simpsons has become one of the most revered and beloved TV programmes of all time. It’s a true cultural phenomenon that’s influenced not just animation, but all areas of TV comedy and sitcom. For so many of us, its quotes and catchphrases have permeated our everyday vernacular, from single words like “crisitunity” and “embiggen” to phrases “you don’t win friends with salad” and “everything’s coming up Milhouse.”
Personal opinions may vary, but for me the show’s peak years were from season 4 through to 10. They’re consistently funny, all killer and no filler runs with barely a dud episode to be found between 1992-1998. Past this point the standard becomes a little more mixed, and recent seasons have been distinctly average at best. The...

[As you probably already know, starting on Thursday, August 21, Fxx is running the Every Simpsons Ever Marathon, running through all 552 episodes of "The Simpsons," plus "The Simpsons Movie." To aid in your viewing process, Team HitFix is selecting our favorite episodes from each day, plus an episode or two that you can skip and use as a bathroom or nap break.] Day 4 of Fxx's Every Simpsons Ever Marathon really is where the show hits its peak. It's possible that it can't equal the heights of Day 2 and Day 3, but there's a depth to the episodes between "Round Springfield" and "Grade School Confidential" that no other day can top. How good is this day? I even like the big Abe episode, "Raging Abe Simpson and His Grumbling Grandson in 'The Curse of the Flying Hellfish.'" How good is this day? We didn't even consider "Homer vs. the Eighteenth Amendment" and it includes the immortal line, "To alcohol! The cause of, and solution to, all of life's problems." And we considered, but didn't write up "Homer's Phobia," with John Waters in one of the show's best guest vocal turns. And nobody even mentioned "El Viaje Misterioso de Nuestro Jomer (The Mysterious Voyage of Homer)" even though Homer's Guatemalan insanity pepper hallucination is an aesthetic highlight.
