Larry Todd (Johnson) Cousineau recently relocated to Los Angeles after 13 years in Chicago where he appeared as a cabaret artist in shows featuring his lyrics such as Songs from My Closet and Songs from My Holiday Closet.
While in Chicago, productions of his musicals (Flies! The Musical!, All That He Was 2020) earned him two Jeff Award nominations for Best New Work.
Some career highlights:
As a Line Producer for Disney, he managed the development and production for animated series and video release projects including My Friends Tigger and Pooh, Yin Yang Yo!, American Dragon, House of Mouse and Buzz Lightyear of Star Command. He also worked as a freelance writer on animated series, including Yin Yang Yo!, The Care Bears (2009), and Angela Anaconda.
As a book-writer/lyricist for musical theatre, his master's thesis, a musical drama called All That He Was (with composer Cindy O'Connor), won the Kennedy Center National Student Playwrighting Award and the KC/ACTF Musical Theater Award. In February 2010, he attended a new student production of All That He Was at the Tisch School of the Arts in NYC.
His historical-fiction musical, The Last Princess, with composer Alan Hong, was featured in the Disney/ASCAP Musical Theatre Workshop in Los Angeles.
40 is the New 15, with composer Cindy O'Connor, had a six-week run in 2009 at the Secret Rose Theatre in North Hollywood, CA, and again in 2010 at the NoHo Arts Center in North Hollywood, CA. It was a critical and commercial success, nominated for a 2010 GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Los Angeles Theatre, and chosen by Stephen Schwartz for the ASCAP/Disney Musical Theatre Workshop in Burbank in 2010.
Now and Then a Hero, with composer Jake Anthony, had a successful reading at the Montana Rep. Colony in Missoula. A staged reading took place in 2015 at Cal State Fullerton, and he hopes for more to come.
His songs, including "Season of Family", "Our First Christmas", "Really, Santa?", "Twisted Love for Christmas", "Like Any Other Man", and "Even Gayer at Christmas" have been featured in concerts by the Gay Men's Choruses of Chicago, Los Angeles, and Atlanta.
