While most people who make it far on American Idol are having the time of their lives, others have decided to leave the show in the middle of the competition for various reasons.
One singer said recently said she was quitting as she wanted to go home to her kids and she didn’t think she was going to win anyways. Another singer said she didn’t think she was able to give 100 percent, so she decided to just leave the show.
There are 11 other former contestants who have quit the show or were removed by producers, including one that made it all the way to the final five.

Recently, a former American Idol contestant made headlines as she filed a lawsuit against the ABC show. It’s not the first time the competition has landed in hot water in the last 20 years. Here’s more on the lawsuit, plus other American Idol scandals and controversies that have haunted the singing show since it began in 2002.

Last year, a gaming live-streamer named Normandy Vamos auditioned for American Idol Season 20. She left an impression on judges Lionel Richie, Katy Perry, and Luke Bryan with her unique fashion sense and high-pitched speaking voice that changed into a deep, soulful sound as she sang. Vamos earned a golden ticket to Hollywood but later claimed she was uninvited. Her audition also went viral.

A couple weeks ago on episode 4 of the current 16th season of Fox’s “So You Think You Can Dance,” the show opened with 18-year-old twin brothers, Trent and Colton Edwards, contemporary dancers with flair to spare who are based in Pittsburgh. They explained that they only took up dancing three years ago. However, they also added that they had musical theater experience, which they said provided the equivalent of Tsa PreCheck when it came to taking on dance. Cute, huh?
The good-looking twosome instantly charmed the judges with their talkative personalities as cheeky Colton confessed that he was the evil twin of the two. Their “Sytycd” performance (see clip above) was quite a showstopper and even caused judge Mary Murphy to let loose with one of her sonic shrieks of glee. Of course, they were given a golden ticket to the Academy.

Dexter Roberts has a unique advantage over everybody else on Season 16 of “The Voice”: a built-in audience. This country artist from Alabama gained a slew of fans back when he was a finalist on Season 13 of “American Idol,” and those fans have now followed him to NBC’s reality TV show. Following his rockin’ performance of Brooks & Dunn‘s “Ain’t Nothing ‘Bout You” during Monday’s live Top 24 episode, is Dexter now a front-runner to win “The Voice”?

Bette Midler has apologized for paraphrasing the title of a 1972 John Lennon-Yoko Ono song — Midler wrote “N-word,” John & Yoko spelled it out — in an angry tweet Thursay about the “too brief investigation” into Brett Kavanaugh.
Midler’s apology reads: “The too brief investigation of allegations against Kavanaugh infuriated me. Angrily I tweeted w/o thinking my choice of words would be enraging to black women who doubly suffer, both by being women and by being black. I am an ally and stand with you; always have. And I apologize.”
The original post read “Women are the n-word of the world, raped, beaten, enslaved married off, worked like dumb animals; denied education and inheritance; enduring the pain and danger of childbirth and life In Silence for Thousands of years They are the most disrespected creatures on earth.”

Given all the musicals we've seen on TV recently -- NBC's live-performance versions of "Peter Pan" and "The Sound of Music," not to mention ABC's "Galavant" and all six seasons of Fox's "Glee" -- it's a wonder that the pipeline hasn't flowed in the opposite direction, from the small screen to Broadway.
That may change with the announcements that a couple of TV-based musicals are in the works. One is "Bombshell," the Marilyn Monroe biographical musical that was created and staged over the course of two seasons on NBC's "Smash." Bringing it to Broadway would seem easy enough -- the songs and choreography already exist; all that's needed is a book.
The other is a stage version of "Downton Abbey," which may launch after the British drama's sixth and final season wraps this winter. John Lunn, who composes the music for the series, says he envisions an international tour, starring...

“Can anybody find me somebody to love?”
I posed one of Queen’s most plaintive lyrics for most of Wednesday’s American Idol “Group Rounds” telecast — and unfortunately, only a handful of contestants answered the call. There were forgotten lyrics, cacophonous harmonies, a few instances of face-down-on-the-carpet exhaustion and a smattering of “I didn’t come here to make friends” squawking. But “Holy crap, I want to know that contestant’s 877-number so I can start voting for him/her right this second!” vocals were in short supply.

Ideally, singing competitions like NBC’s The Voice offer undiscovered contestants the chance to become almost famous. But in season 5, which began on Monday, we’re seeing contestants who are already famous.
During last night’s blind auditions, E.G. Daily — the voice of Rugrats’ Tommy Pickles, a sometime movie actress (Pee-wee’s Big Adventure), and a singer with a top 10 hit (1987′s “Mind Over Matter”) — competed for a second chance at a music career. And during Monday’s premiere, host Carson Daly told Briana Cuoco, actress Kaley Cuoco’s sister, that she will get to audition in an upcoming episode.

American Idol singer Frenchie Davis. Mickey Mouse Club member Tony Lucca. The Voice has always been about giving talented singers a second chance at fame. Now, the show is giving its singers another second chance with a twist that could shake the game up in a big way: the Steal.
In the battle rounds, which kick off Monday at 8/7c on NBC, the coaches will have the opportunity to press their buttons once again — this time to steal a singer from another coach after that singer has lost their battle. "I have to say as a naturalized American, what the country is all about is second chances. And this is a second chance for people," executive producer Mark Burnett tells TVGuide.com. "When they hit those buttons and the lights come on, it's like, 'Wow!' I've been doing this long enough that I know when I see something magical happen.

"When they hit those buttons and the lights come on, it's like, 'Wow!' I've been doing this long enough that I know when I see something magical happen.

From day one, The Voice has taken subtle, and not-so-subtle, jabs at Simon Cowell's work, with the NBC mentors stressing that their show is about "pure talent" and reminding audiences they're not there to be mean. The Voice even cast Frenchie Davis, a powerful singer wrongly (Imho) disqualified from American Idol, in their first season.

AfterElton and AfterEllen celebrated their flawless Hot 100 lists at Hollywood's W Hotel on Monday with a decadent fete featuring plenty of the homosexuals, drag queens, and qualified straight people you've long adored. David Burtka spoke representing the It Gets Better Project, RuPaul's Drag Race legends Sharon Needles, Willem, Morgan McMichaels, Pandora Boxx, and Raja stopped by, and splashy new artist NiRé AllDai performed live. We'll be updating this post with video interviews as they're edited together, but for now take a look at a quick gallery of our invitees. Yes, that's me looking glamorously confused in lavender.

Frenchie Davis is best known for her short-lived "American Idol" stint and a more successful run on the first season of "The Voice." She's also appeared on Broadway in "Rent" and has a strong fanbase -- but now, she's making headlines for something other than her powerful voice. This week, Davis came out as a lesbian in an interview to promote St. Louis' PrideFest.
She says she's never gone to great lengths to hide her sexual orientation, but she's never been particularly forthcoming. Now that she's been in a serious relationship with a woman for a year, she felt it was time to speak out. "I wasn't out before the relationship, but I wasn't in," she says. "I dated men and women, though lesbians weren't feeling the bisexual thing. Now I'm in love with a woman I think I can be with forever."

Jermaine Jones is apparently out on "American Idol."
The 25-year-old vocal instructor from Pine Hill, N.J., tweeted Tuesday night that he no longer would be on the Fox singing contest.
The Hollywood Reporter said Jones tweeted, "Awww I will no longer b on the show." His Twitter account has since been deleted.
A Fox spokeswoman declined to comment on the matter or confirm his tweet.
TMZ reports Jones will be kicked off during the Wed., March 14 broadcast. He allegedly hid a criminal record -- an incident involved violence -- from producers who then confronted Jones on camera. In addition to hiding his criminal past, TMZ said Jones lied to cops by giving them fake names after arrests.
Jones reportedly has outstanding warrants.

Los Angeles (AP) -- Jermaine Jones is apparently out on "American Idol.'' He wrote on his official "Idol'' Twitter account: "Awww I will no longer b on the show.'' The post and Jones' official "Idol'' Twitter account were later deleted. A Fox spokeswoman declined to comment on the matter or confirm his tweet. The so-called "gentle giant,'' as he was dubbed by "Idol'' host Ryan Seacrest, was among the show's viewer-selected top 13 finalists after the judges gave him a last-minute spot among the 11th season's top 13 male semifinalists. He was among the bottom three vote-getters last week after performing Stevie Wonder's "Knocks Me Off My Feet'' but advanced to the group of top 12 singers. "Idol'' contestants in the past...

Fox’s American Idol has got to step up its efforts for basic background checks on the contestants who make it to the live shows. This year’s Top 12 finalist Jermaine Jones is the latest to be disqualified because of pending criminal charges. According to TMZ, the Idol producers didn’t find out until today that he had been arrested twice last year, including once for an incident that involved violence, and has outstanding warrants. Tonight, Jones confirmed that he was leaving the show on his official Idol Twitter feed. Previously on Idol, Season 2 semifinalist Jared Andrews was dismissed over assault charges, while Top 9 finalist Corey Clark was disqualified over pending battery charges. Like Jones, they hadn’t disclosed their criminal history when signing up for the show. Another dismissed Idol semifinalist, early Season 2 frontrunner Frenchie Davis, who got the boot over racy photos, recently resurfaced on rival The Voice.

Plenty of former American Idol contestants have made their way to the Broadway stage after their time on the reality competition: Clay Aiken appeared in Spamalot, Constantine Maroulis earned a Tony nod and originated the role of Drew in Rock of Ages, and Frenchie Davis hit the big note of “Seasons of Love” in Rent, but now, for the first time, there’s a former AI judge currently performing on the Great White Way. HollywoodLife.com spoke to a source close to Christina Aguilera who denies a report claiming she’ll be replaced for season three of ‘The Voice’!
Christina Aguilera has signed on for a second season of the hit show The Voice, which will start up again in January. A new report says that the show’s producers are planning on firing Christina and replacing her for season three. We spoke to a source who completely denies this story!
X17 claims Christina “doesn’t spend time with her contestants like she’s supposed to. She doesn’t participate. She spends most of her time on the set with her boyfriend,” and says producers are looking to fire Christina.
“This story is completely false,” a source close to the singer tells us.
When we spoke to Beverly McClellan and Frenchie Davis about Christina they both stressed how hands-on she was as a coach.
