Completing her graduation from Ruia College, Mumbai, Gautami embarked on her career with the suspense thriller television show "Saturday Suspense" as Renu, which aired on Zee TV from 1997 to 1999. From 2000 to 2002, she graced the small screen as Aanchal in the series "Ghar Ek Mandir," produced by Ekta Kapoor on Sony TV.

The actress continued to captivate audiences with her performances in series such as "Dhadkan" (2002) and "Lipstick" (2003-2004), where she portrayed dual roles of Suniti Verma before and after plastic surgery. Gautami's versatility extended to the iconic "Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi," where she played Juhi Jas Thakral between 2007 to 2008.

Gautami Kapoor's foray into films began with the Marathi thriller "Bindhast" in 1999, followed by notable roles in "Kuch Na Kaho" (2003), "Fanaa" (2006), and "Student of the Year" (2012). Her nuanced performances in movies like "Shaadhi Ke Side Effects" (2014) and "Lekar Hum Deewana Dil" (2014) further solidified her presence in the film industry.
