Sponsored into the X-rated movie business by writer/director Cash Markman, who tested his ability to perform sex in front of the camera in 2003 for "The Smut Peddlers," before casting him in "Bad Influence," a parody on "The Graduate." That second movie brought Smothers his first AVN Award nomination, as Best Actor, at the Adult Video News Awards in January 2004. Smothers was nominated again, in January 2007, for his uncanny impression of Don Adams, of "Get Smart" fame, for the X-rated parody "Get Luckier." However, by the time the second nomination was announced, Smothers had left adult movies.
