It’s amazing how this season of Harley Quinn started just okay and yet managed to return to full form with banger after banger. The penultimate episode of season 5 is the perfect example of that.
Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy, and Sharon Quinzel (Harley’s mother) needed a plan to return Metropolis to its normal size. The only way to do that was to stop Lena Luthor with none other than her villainous brother Lex Luthor. Sadly, Harley’s plan to use Lex’s plan failed. And when Harley uses her incredible skills as a therapist to help Lena and Luthor get over their rivalry, she only makes them stronger. It ends with them teaming up, shrinking Ivy, Harley, and Sharon, and putting them in a bottle with Brainiac.
Back on Earth, the unlikely trio of Joker, Lois Lane, and Bruce Wayne (not as Batman) were trying to keep things together in Metropolis.

James Gunn is so back and this time, he has brought David Corenswet with him. Probably creating one of the best Superman movies of all time, the world is very excited (and worried) about James Gunn’s Superman.

However, insider reports allege that an initial test screening has taken place for Gunn’s Superman. Comparisons to Henry Cavill’s Superman were made and the thing that Superman fans were worried about? Well, it allegedly worked out beautifully for David Corenswet’s Man of Steel.
Fans are worried about James Gunn’s love for humor
Some talks were revived on the internet which stated that there would be some funny moments from James Gunn’s upcoming film which genuinely concerned the fans. The scenes were humor-filled jokes (which is rare for a DC film/character) and fans were a tad concerned about the...

On March 18, 2021, Zack Snyder's Justice League premiered on HBO Max. While it did little to sway the filmmaker's detractors, most DC fans seemed to agree that it was a huge improvement over Joss Whedon's 2017 theatrical cut.
Warner Bros. allowed Snyder to add new scenes to the movie, many of which set the stage for his unmade sequels. Then, there were the teases already in there from back when he was essentially in charge of the DC Extended Universe.
Four years later and over two years after DC Studios was formed to reboot the Dceu as the Dcu, it's pretty obvious Snyder's Justice League sequels won't happen. It's hard to say why we've never got an animated or comic book follow-up, but in this feature, we're taking a closer look at the biggest unresolved plot threads and what, if anything, has been revealed about the filmmaker's intentions for them.

Superman is one of the year's most highly anticipated movies, so it's not exactly surprising to see so much buzz - both positive and negative - surrounding James Gunn's long-awaited reboot.
Test screenings have dominated the conversation in recent weeks and, in the latest edition of his newsletter, Jeff Sneider shared a few more details.
Chief among them is that he's heard Superman's current runtime is roughly 140 minutes. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was Gunn's longest movie at 150 minutes, while his Dceu debut, The Suicide Squad, was 132 minutes.
"I spoke to someone this weekend who has seen 'Superman,' and they really liked it," the insider explained. "They said David Corenswet delivers as the Man of Steel and that the 'jokey moments' I mentioned on my podcast, 'The Hot Mic,' were initially viewed out of context, but worked much better within the flow of the edit.

Fans are aware Brendan Fraser came very close to playing Superman. According to many, his charming yet inherently kind demeanor would have been a perfect fit to portray Clark Kent on screen.

Writer, director, and producer James Gunn has quite a bit resting on his shoulders as the co-head of DC Studios (with Peter Safran), but nothing feels as important as the success of his upcoming "Superman" film. "Superman" is going to be crucial not only for DC Studios but for parent company Warner Bros. as well, and its success will determine the future of the new DC Universe, which will expand into films and TV shows about other DC comics heroes and villains. The first trailer for "Superman" showed other Justice League characters like Hawkgirl (Isabela Merced) and Green Lantern (Nathan Fillion) as well as Supes, which made some fans worry that Gunn might lean into his tendency toward ensemble pieces.
After all, he's best known for his work on the "Guardians of the Galaxy" films as well as DC's "The Suicide Squad" at the cineplex along with shows like the...

At the end of 2022, The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker director James Gunn was named co-ceo of DC Studios alongside veteran producer Peter Safran.
Gunn is believed to be focusing primarily on the creative side of the Dcu and, provided nothing goes disastrously wrong, is expected to remain in his first executive role for anywhere up to a decade. The filmmaker has already worked on Creature Commandos and Peacemaker season 2 and is currently in post-production on Superman.
According to a new report from Puck, Gunn is one of many industry figures who have hybrid deals covering their creative and executive duties. In Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige's case, for example, he's likely paid separately for his President and executive producer positions.
Gunn, meanwhile, looks set to score as many as three paydays for his work on Superman.

Superman Promo Art Reveals New Look At David Corenswet's Man Of Steel; Movie Said To Be "Very Jokey"

While fans await a second trailer for DC Studios' Superman, we have a look at some new promo art featuring David Corenswet's Man of Steel.
We have heard some mixed reports from test-screenings, with some heaping praise on James Gunn's Dcu reboot and others voicing concern that the film is somewhat lacking.
One talking point that seems to come up a lot is the amount of humor fans can expect, and during the latest episode of The Hot Mic, co-host Jeff Sneider said he's heard the movie is "very jokey," mentioning the Guardians of the Galaxy movies as a comparison.
James Gunn was never going to helm a dark or overly serious Superman movie, and we're not sure many fans of the iconic hero would have much interest, anyway. Even so, the majority feel that there shouldn't be an overabundance of humor.
Sneider also reiterates a previous report...

We're now just under four months away from the release of James Gunn's Superman, but it seems there are a couple of key cast members that the Guardians of the Galaxy director managed to keep under wraps during production.
In his latest newsletter, Jeff Sneider says he's heard that there are still "some major casting surprises in Gunn’s Superman," and he believes that Kal-El's biological father, Jor-El, is one of them.
Sneider speculates - and that's all it is - that Tom Cruise, who signed a deal with Warner Bros. last year, could be eyed for a DC role. If Cruise was to sign on for a superhero project, it would have to be as a major character or possibly a smaller, but still important cameo. Jor-El could fit the bill, but we can't see a casting coup of that magnitude staying out of the press - or...

Superman star Nathan Fillion, who plays Guy Gardner in the upcoming reboot, delved into his character. This comes after the film'swriter-director and DC Studios co-head James Gunn shared a new look at Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific on the Superman set.
Fillion talked about his character in an interview with TV Guide, stating, "He's a jerk! What's important to know is, you don't have to be good to be a Green Lantern; you just have to be fearless. So Guy Gardner is fearless, and he is not very good. He's not nice, which is very freeing as an actor because you just think to yourself, what is the most selfish, self-serving thing I can do in this moment? And that's the answer. That's what you do in that moment. I think if he has a superpower, it might be his overconfidence, in that he thinks he could take on Superman.

Popular comic book couples are a cherished thing. When readers find someone they ship then they should be together forever. For example, Jean Grey and Scott Summers, Superman and Lois Lane, and Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson are among the untouchables (despite the latter having been broken up since 2022). It’s the same for people who only watch superhero shows and movies, in this case, we have Matt Murdock (Daredevil) and Karen Page.
Warning! Spoilers For Daredevil: Born Again Episode 1!
Matt and Karen are an important couple in Daredevil’s lore. She was a source of pain and pleasure in life in Marvel Comics and it appears to be the same on the show. Unfortunately, they aren’t together during Daredevil: Born Again. What was once a mutual decision turned into something else after Foggy’s death. Karen moved to California to avoid things that reminded her of her deceased friend.

So far, Corenswet's Man of Steel is the only character of DC's most famous trio of heroes to have a project ready to debut. James Gunn's Superman movie flies into theaters in July. As for Batman and Wonder Woman, the Dark Knight will make his live-action Dcu debut in the undated The Brave and the Bold Batman film, while Wonder Woman has no set project to debut.

Longtime James Gunn collaborator Nathan Fillion is set to make his Dcu debut as Guy Gardner in The Suicide Squad director's Superman reboot, and it sounds like this first big-screen take on the Green Lantern is going to stick pretty closely to his prickly comic book counterpart.

While the Dcu technically got started with Creature Commandos, Superman is the true start to a universe that hopefully continues to blossom. The movie is directed and written by the creative head of DC Studios, James Gunn, who also famously directed all three Guardians of the Galaxy movies. The movie stars David Corenswet as Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor. Characters we've never seen on the big screen before like Guy Gardner's Green Lantern, Hawkgirl, Mister Terrific, and the Engineer.
This is clearly going to be a huge movie that lays some groundwork for a universe just being born into existence. This isn't Iron Man in 2008. This movie isn't being made with the mere possibility of creating a cinematic universe as a huge maybe. That's Superman's entire purpose.

Warner Bros. Discovery is betting big on its DC properties, and James Gunn’s ‘Superman‘ is at the heart of it all. The studio’s future hangs in the balance, with insiders whispering about a deep worry that things could go south—really south, like 20th Century Fox getting swallowed by Disney back in 2019. This isn’t just another superhero flick. It’s the first major test of whether DC can still pull its weight in a crowded market.
The stakes couldn’t be higher. A veteran from Warner Bros. put it bluntly: ‘An essential element of the stock price is believing that the I.P. of DC is meaningful.’ That’s the core of the issue—proving DC still matters.

Mike De Luca and Pam Abdy's stint as Warner Bros. Pictures co-chiefs has been a disaster. Outside of the odd hit like Barbie, the studio continues to release movies that regularly underperform, with Mickey 17 the latest example.
Joker: Folie à Deux was another colossal mistake. With Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav looking to cut costs and make movies on the cheap, Luca and Abdy allowed Todd Phillips to essentially rip them off for $200 million so he could shoot a lavish sequel meant to satisfy his and Joaquin Phoenix's desire for a musical.
According to a new report from Puck, Zaslav - an unpopular figure in Hollywood after he scrapped movies like Batgirl and Coyote vs. Acme mid-production - is considering replacing Luca and Abdy.
One top contender is DC Studios co-ceo Peter Safran, meaning James Gunn would be left as the sole head of that studio.

A new behind-the-scenes snap from James Gunn's Supermanmovie showcases perhaps the most faithful comic-to-film costume I've ever seen. The design shows that Gunn understands what makes the DC Universe so special and, crucially, its big difference to Marvel. That's really important if Gunn's Dcu is going to find its own identity and place in a market ruled by the MCU.
There's a reason that comic fans like me are so thrilled to see that writing on his arm.
In a post shared on X, Gunn wishes happy birthday to Edi Gathegi, who is playing Michael Holt - aka the super-genius Mister Terrific - in the upcoming Superman movie, starring David Corenswet as Clark Kent and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane.

Director James Gunn provides a new glimpse at Superman's cast with a behind-the-scenes picture of Rachel Bronsahan's Lois Lane, Edi Gathegi's Mister Terrific, and himself filming the upcoming Dcu movie. Superman's star-studded cast of characters includes mainstay Superman icons such as Lois Lane and Jimmy Olsen, as well as other DC characters who have never appeared in a live-action movie before. Edi Gathegi's Mister Terrific, in particular, is a fresh addition to the Dcu, as the character only has one previous live-action adaptation.

We got a first glimpse of María Gabriela de Faría as The Engineer via set photos when Superman was filming last summer, but director James Gunn has now shared a first official look at the character via a new behind-the-scenes photo.
In the comics, Angela Spica is a heroic member of the super-group known as The Authority, and has a number of powers, including the ability to shape-shift. We're not sure if this first live-action take on the character will have a similar power-set, but we do know that she will be an antagonist to David Corenswet's Man of Steel.
"Happy Anniversary to the Engineer," Gunn captioned his post. "Created by Warren Ellis and Bryan Hitch, who you can see played to sinister perfection by puppy in human form @thefaria in #Superman this July!

Superman director James Gunn took to social media to share a new behind-the-scenes photo of María Gabriela de Faría (Deadly Class) as The Engineer. You can check out the new photo below!
In the caption, Gunn wrote: “Happy Anniversary to the Engineer, created by Warren Ellis and Bryan Hitch, who you can see played to sinister perfection by puppy in human form Gaby de Faria in #Superman this July!“
The behind-the-scenes photo isn’t particularly revealing, but it does give us another look at the Engineer’s costume. The location is the same one we saw in the teaser trailer, in which Superman is battling a different black-suited character. Speaking of that teaser, it became the most viewed and talked about trailer in the history of DC of Warner Bros. when it was viewed over 250 million times in the first 24 hours after its release.

Jason Momoa wasn’t kidding when he said playing the comic book character Lobo was a top priority for him. In a new post on X, DC Studios co-chief James Gunn revealed the text Momoa sent him when it was announced in fall 2022 that Gunn and Peter Safran would be heading up the Warner Bros. superhero division. The text was simple: “Fucking Lobo.”
“Dude, I’ve said you should be Lobo for years. No lie,” Gunn wrote back to the actor at the time.
In sharing the text exchange, Gunn now wrote: “On the anniversary of Lobo, I can’t help but think of a text I received from Jason Momoa on the morning it was announced Peter & I were the heads of DC Studios — the day Jason & I first discussed him joining the Dcu as Lobo. As reactions (good and bad) from supposed test screenings continue to dominate the conversation online, Superman director James Gunn has just shared a new look at the Dcu's Lois Lane (Rachel Brosnahan) and Mr. Terrific (Edi Gathegi).
It doesn't tell us a great deal about what to expect from these characters. However, it appears to be the same scene from the trailer where Terrific was shown protecting Lois from a squad of what looked to be Lex Luthor's green and purple-clad soldiers.
Last December, Gunn said Mr. Terrific is the "main character of those [superhero supporting] characters" and added, "I think it was just who I wanted to really, honestly. I love Mr. Terrific. These characters all get their moment in the sun. They all have their moments. They're not just cameos, these are the characters."

Superman flies into theaters later this summer, but James Gunn has shared an early behind-the-scenes look at the film in celebration of one of the main cast members’ birthday. “Never forget what you are. The rest of the world will not. Wear it like an armor, and it can never be used to hurt you.” This profound line by Tyrion Lannister appears to have become the mantra for all Bollywood Nepo-babies. When Khushi Kapoor’s Pia brands herself as the ‘poster princess of privilege and entitlement,’ it is in line with the same confessional spirit that Ananya Pandey and Sarah Ali Khan channeled in “Call Me Bae” and “Murder Mubarak,” respectively. But absolution cannot come if you do it half-heartedly. To follow Tyrion’s advice, you would need to embrace all of your fallacies. Privileged and entitled? Sure. But there is one other fallacy that seems to have escaped them. The fact that in ‘Nadaaniyan’ (2025), they cannot act to save their lives.
Pia Jaisingh(Khushi Kapoor) is, quite self-admittedly, a thoroughly spoiled brat. Her family is shown to be affluent.

Warner Bros. Discovery and DC Comics file for dismissal of a pending lawsuit regarding Supermanin film.
Per Variety, Warner Bros. Discovery and DC Comics filed a motion to dismiss on Wednesday, March 5, in the hopes of dismissing the pending lawsuit brought about by Mark Peary, nephew of the late Superman co-creator Joe Shuster. Peary's suit was filed in January, and seeks to invalidate Warner Bros. Discovery and DC Studios' Superman copyrights in the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and Ireland. The motion to dismiss alleges that Peary's mother, Jean Peavy, signed away the rights to Superman in 1992, shortly after Shuster's passing that same year.
Studio attorney Daniel Petrocelli said of the case, "Peary's complaint fails on every ground." Petrocelli elaborated, "There are no carve-outs in the controlling 1992 agreement for any foreign copyrights, much less for the copyrights in the 10 countries Peary now alleges in the Complaint." In January, Warner Bros. found itself at the center of a lawsuit that could potentially block James Gunn’s upcoming Superman movie from being released in foreign territories. Mark Peary, nephew of late Superman co-creator Joe Shuster, filed the lawsuit against Warner Bros. Discovery, DC Studios, and DC Comics, arguing they don’t have the rights to release Superman in many key territories outside the U.S.
As you might expect, Warner Bros. is fighting back. The studio has now filed a motion to dismiss, claiming that courts have already rejected Peary’s claims after his mother, Jean Peavy, signed away all rights after Schuster’s death in 1992. “Peary’s complaint fails on every ground,” said Warner Bros.’ attorney Daniel Petrocelli.

Back in January, we learned that Warner Bros. and director James Gunn's Superman may have run into a (potentially) major roadblock on its journey to the big screen.
Mark Peary, the nephew of the late Superman co-creator Joe Shuster, filed a lawsuit against Warner Bros. Discovery/DC Studios/DC Comics, claiming that the studio lacks the rights to release the Dcu reboot in a handful of key territories, including Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, and Australia.
The matter has to do with foreign copyrights to the original Superman character and story. Though Siegel and Shuster assigned worldwide rights to DC’s predecessor in 1938, the copyright laws of countries with the British legal tradition contain "provisions automatically terminating such assignments 25 years after an author’s death, vesting in the Shuster Estate the co-author’s undivided copyright interest in such countries."

The SnyderVerse. A very controversial topic. It evokes electronically and physically loud voices both for and against its existence even years after it has very clearly ended.
Then, Gunn posted a picture with Snyder to his X account.

It's hard to imagine this now, considering the stranglehold that superhero films and television series have had on Hollywood over the past decade and a half, but in the early 2000s, developing a show about a superhero -- even a top-tier one like Superman -- was not guaranteed to be a slam dunk. It's a testament to the charming, borderline addictive nature of "Smallville" that it not only existed on the fledgling CW network, but thrived there for 10 seasons from 2001 to 2011.
In telling the story of Clark Kent's (Tom Welling) teen and young adult years growing up in Smallville, the frothy superhero drama introduced audiences to a crop of upcoming actors who made their mark both on "Smallville" and beyond. While some are still acting to this day, others have taken interesting career -- and personal life -- turns over the years that may surprise fans of the show. Here's the main cast of "Smallville,...

6 Things We Know About Superman’s Test Screenings: James Gunn Has Some Surprise Villains for DC Fans

Everyone’s excitement for James Gunn’s Superman starring David Corenswet will get even more intense after an insider revealed some interesting details about the upcoming film. The result of the initial test screening proved that it needed more polishing, but in the most recent viewing, the movie reportedly did better than the last time.

Tom Welling and Allison Mack were the only Smallville cast members to appear in all ten seasons of the Superman origin story. Mack played Clark Kent’s best friend and superhero sidekick, Chloe Sullivan. Chloe worked on the school newspaper with young Clark, and her innate curiosity had her sniffing around Clark’s secret.
Chloe Sullivan was the proto-Lois and Lois Lane’s cousin. She fearlessly chased stories, unearthing a few skeletons in the closets of the rich and powerful, making her more than a few enemies. While her journalism career would fizzle out, Chloe would go on to play an important part in Clark’s journey and the series at large.
Chloe Has a Couple of Close Calls
In the intense season three finale of Smallville, Lionel Luthor is arrested and denied bail for the murder of his parents. Chloe Sullivan is the star witness, having recorded Lionel’s confession on her voicemail.

James Gunn's Superman is one of the most anticipated movies of 2025, with David Corenswet being the latest actor to portray the Man of Steel on the big screen. Most DC fans (aside from the Zack Snyder diehards) are desperate for Superman to be a hit and revitalize the DC Universe on the big screen after years of divisive movies. The first test screenings of James Gunn's latest film have already happened, with the director confirming that some minor reshoots will be taking place before its theatrical release on July 11, 2026. We're just a few months away from David Corenswet making his Dcu debut in James Gunn's Superman, and fans cannot wait to see what Gunn and the Dcu have in store for its first feature film outing. But what will happen after Superman? How long can we expect Corenswet's Man of Steel to stick around? Superman will open the doors for the wider Dcu, with Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow following things up when it releases in 2026. A recent report also suggested that the Dcu is preparing for a big-screen team-up, potentially involving the Justice League. But will Superman still be a part of it?

A lot hinges on Superman being a hit this summer. If the movie fails, then it won't be good for DC Studios and could bring a swift end to the Dcu - beyond the projects already being shot - before it even gets started.
It's doubtful that Superman will bomb but certainly not impossible. Superhero fatigue does appear to have set in among moviegoers and the DC brand has been badly damaged by Dceu projects like Black Adam, Shazam! Fury of the Gods, and The Flash.

Playing Superman is a big responsibility, as several well-known actors would tell you. Whether it was the legendary Christopher Reeves' performance that would set a new precedent for that man of tomorrow, Brandon Routh's evocation of that in Superman Returns, or Henry Cavill's more subdued performance in Zack Snyder's Dceu, there are plenty of examples of how each actor has chosen to embody such an iconic character. In the case of David Corenswet, who is set to make his debut as the character in James Gunn's Superman film, due for release in July 2025, the actor has one interesting approach to portraying the last son of Krypton.
In an interview with Esquire, Corenswet was asked if there were any times of uncertainty about playing a character as iconic as Superman. The actor replied, “In times of doubt, I’d ask myself, 'How would Harrison Ford say this?...

But before the Pearl star got the role, several other high-profile actors auditioned for the part – including Patrick Schwarzenegger. The actor and son of Arnold Schwarzenegger currently stars in Season 3 of HBO's The White Lotus, and even has another superhero franchise under his belt, having appeared in the first season of Prime Video's Gen V. But as Schwarzenegger recalls, he came close to adding the Dcu to his increasingly impressive filmography.
During an appearance on Josh Horowitz's Happy Sad Confused, Patrick Schwarzenegger recalled his failed audition to play Superman in James Gunn's rebooted Dcu. "I don’t think I got any feedback," Schwarzenegger said of his audition. "I think it was like, 'No, not for you.'" The actor revealed he didn't make it past the first...

Quick LinksWhat Was Superman's Arctic Giant About? How Did Superman Stop His Arctic Giant?
In discussions about Superman adaptations outside the comics, it's easy to see how the Fleischer Studios era set the gold standard for the DC hero. The studio produced heartwarming shorts in the 1940s that had heart and action. One of the most memorable ones was "The Arctic Giant."
This story was the fourth out of 17 animated Technicolor shorts, and gave fans a Godzilla story 12 years before Toho created its version of the giant lizard in Japan. It focused on Clark Kent's superhero alter ego fighting a giant dinosaur-like creature to save Lois Lane and Metropolis. The more interesting thing about "The Arctic Giant," however, is that the creature terrorizes Metropolis in a very similar manner to 1954's Godzilla.

Patrick Schwarzenegger had a (very) brief stint as the powerful Supe known as Golden Boy in the series premiere of The Boys spin-off, Gen V, but the actor has now revealed that he had his sights set on a much bigger - arguably the biggest - superhero prior to landing his current role in season 3 of The White Lotus.
While chatting to the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Schwarzenegger was asked if he's been in the running for many superhero roles, and responded that it's only been three so far: He actually tried out for Homelander in The Boys before being cast as Golden Boy in the spin-off show, and he sent in an audition video for James Gunn's Superman... but didn't exactly get very far!
“No, I don’t think I got any feedback," said the actor when asked if he got to try on the iconic costume. "I think it was like,...

First airing in 2023, My Adventures with Superman has proven to be a successful and well-received reimagining of the Man of Steel through a distinctly anime-inspired lens. Not only has it had a second season, but it's also getting a spinoff in the form of a similar series based on another DC hero. While this project might definitely turn out to be just as well-received, there's another, far more logical direction for the animated universe to go in.
Wonder Woman is the third member of DC Comics' Trinity besides Superman and Batman, but she's never had an animated series of her own. A spinoff of My Adventures with Superman would have been perfect for the Amazing Amazon, but instead, My Adventures with...

Most major superhero casting announcements are met with a certain amount of scrutiny from the fans, but stepping into a role like Superman - arguably the most famous and iconic comic book character of all time - has to be daunting for any actor.
It may have become a slightly less intimidating prospect over the years since three actors have now suited-up as the Man of Steel on the big screen, but accepting the part is always going to come with some backlash from those who simply don't think you're right for the role.
During a new interview with Esquire, David Corenswet was asked about the criticism he's encountered since the news broke that he will take to the skies as our new Man of Tomorrow in James Gunn's Dcu reboot.
"I like to grow and improve myself with criticism. I don’t take it personally. Quite the opposite,...
