The third of this week’s Scott Adkins film reviews couldn’t be more different from the rest, insomuch that Incoming takes place in an alternate future, one where the International Space Station has been turned into the ultimate black site prison. Being in space means no one’s getting out; and no one knows it’s there. But when the imprisoned terrorists, who have suffered years of mental and physical abuse by the prison’s “warden” (Lukas Loughran), take over the Station and turn it into a missile aimed at Moscow – to complete the mission they started five years prior – blowing up likes of Big Ben, as seen in the films opener.

The Oscar-winning “Bohemian Rhapsody” finally opened in select Chinese theaters on March 22 and, as expected, was edited to remove all traces of Freddie Mercury’s homosexuality. The censorship is hardly a surprise given China’s strict policies on exhibiting Lgbtq content. Ridley Scott’s “Alien: Covenant” was released in China without the kiss between Michael Fassbender and himself, for instance, while films like Ang Lee’s “Brokeback Mountain” were denied a release. Luca Guadagnino’s “Call Me By Your Name,” meanwhile, was pulled from the Beijing International Film Festival in 2017.
As for “Bohemian Rhapsody,” the Associated Press reports China has removed every line of dialogue that directly mentions homosexuality or bisexuality. When a report asks Mercury about his “sexual orientation” during a press conference scene, the subtitle has been changed to “sex life.” One major scene between Mercury (Rami Malek) and his girlfriend Mary Austin (Lucy Boynton) where the singer...

Bryan Singer’s go-to editor/composer, John Ottman, when he was left on his own without a director when Singer was fired by Fox, helped transform “Bohemian Rhapsody” into the surprise hit of the awards season.
And, after winning the Ace Eddie prize, Ottman now becomes the Best Editing Oscar frontrunner. Of course, it helped having a tour de force performance by Rami Malek as the iconic Freddie Mercury, who’s the favorite to win Best Actor.
“We banded together with all of the high drama to make it work,” said Ottman, who was assisted in the editing room by producer Graham King and partner Denis O’Sullivan. “Even when I’m working with Bryan he likes to leave me alone to do my thing,” he added. “He’ll usually go away on a vacation for a number of weeks as I’m shaping the film and come back and...

If polls were run to see who the most iconic personality in music is, the results would certainly lean towards Queen frontman Freddie Mercury, the bastion of beautifully flamboyant, unchecked and unmatched opulence. Decades after his untimely passing from AIDS and his presence is one both widely felt and deeply missed. Of course that means a life as flashy, defiant and legendary as his would make for a great movie, as its taken near thirty years for that life to grace the big screen. After watching it, though, who the hell at 20th Century Fox thought any of what passes for history and entertainment in Bohemian Rhapsody was right? And what’s worse is this is what audiences and Queen fans think is masterful and respectful storytelling?!
To say it paints by numbers and connects dots in its exploration of the rise, “fall and redemption” of Queen throughout the 1970s...

There has been much hand-wringing over the portrayal of iconic bisexual Queen frontman Freddie Mercury in “Bohemian Rhapsody.” From the film’s inception in 2010, media critics, rock biographers, and queer writers have (justifiably) worried the film would leave out, or at least soft pedal, Mercury’s AIDS-related death and relationships with men. An initial trailer appeared to confirm these fears, prompting gay TV writer Bryan Fuller to tweet his frustration.
Rami Malek, who threw himself into the role of Mercury, also threw himself into the fray when he stumbled over a question of whether Mercury was a gay icon. “What’s really great about him is he never, uh, wanted to or thought of himself as being boxed into anything. He just was,” he stammered. “If he’s an icon to one, there’s no reason that it requires another adjective, as far I see.” When asked about the movie’s purported “straightwashing,...

We live in an era where the biopic has undergone an evolution. No longer is a garden variety look at a celebrity’s life acceptable as pure Oscar bait. More often, a nuanced take is the norm. Especially with awards season contenders, films will look in on someone’s life during a seminal moment or time period. Those biopics that avoid this new norm tend to fall short. Opening this week, Bohemian Rhapsody is another example of that. Rami Malek is terrific playing Queen frontman Freddie Mercury, that’s for sure, but the movie itself falls short of the intended mark. It simply has very little to say about its subject. As you might imagine, the film is a look at the life of Freddie Mercury (Malek), who would go on to become one of the biggest rock and roll stars on the planet. The focus here is on everything...

"This place gets overrun, game over." XLrator Media has released an official trailer for sci-fi action thriller Incoming, from newcomer director Eric Zaragoza. This action space prison movie stars Scott Adkins as a rogue CIA agent who has to fight bad guys to save the International Space Station, which is now a prison, after terrorists take over and turn it into a missile aimed at Moscow. It sounds crazy, looks crazy. The cast includes Aaron McCusker, Alaa Safi, Milorad Kapor, Dominic Power, Michelle Lehane, Arkie Reece, and Lukas Loughran. Surprise, this looks pretty dang bad, but we knew it would, right? Haven't we seen enough of space prisons, after Lockout copying Escape from New York? I guess not. Well, jump in. Here's the official trailer (+ poster) for Eric Zaragoza's Incoming, direct from YouTube: The International Space Station is now a prison -- the ultimate black site. No one's getting out.

"The Geneva Convention doesn't apply ... in space." If there is one thing in this crazy film world that we can depend upon, it's that Scott Adkins will always kick butt, no matter if he's embodying a mixed martial artist, a debt collector, or a rogue CIA agent in space as he is doing in his starring role in what I'm sure will be a rousing sci-fi action thriller, titled Incoming. The setting, however, helps to make this a unique and distinctive experience for Mr. Adkins. He stars along with Aaron McCusker, Alaa Safi, Michelle Lehane, and Dominic Power. Eric Zaragoza directed. Here's the official synopsis: "The International Space Station is now a prison -- the ultimate black site. No one's getting out. And no...

We’ll be the first to admit that we weren’t sure what to make of the casting of Mr. Robot star Rami Malek as Freddie Mercury in the upcoming biopic Bohemian Rhapsody. But after seeing the actor in action thanks to a recent set video (seen above), we can safely say that 20th Century Fox picked the right man for the job.
While we don’t know too much about the film just yet, it will reportedly spotlight “a 15-year period, starting in 1970 when Mercury met his bandmates, up through their legendary Live Aid performance in 1985.” Now, with production well underway, the rest of the cast is starting to assemble and today, Deadline brings word that a key role has been filled. That’d be the part of Jim Hutton, Freddie’s boyfriend.
Bringing him to life will be Aaron McCusker, who’s perhaps best known for his work on Showtime’s Shameless.

Exclusive: Aaron McCusker has been cast as Freddie Mercury’s lover Jim Hutton in 20th Century Fox's Bohemian Rhapsody, which is being directed by Bryan Singer. Hutton was a key figure in Mercury's life — a hairdresser and boyfriend who was with Mercury for the last six years of Queen frontman’s life. Castle devotes an entire season 8 episode to developing the character of Hayley...
This review contains spoilers.
8.18 Backstabber
This week, Hayley was solidly inducted into the ranks of Castle regulars by getting an episode about her. The purpose of these kinds of episodes is to give us background and real texture to the characters that surround Beckett and Castle. They explain why these characters are who they are—because while Castle has a fine cast, it’s not really an ensemble show. Rick and Kate get character development of one kind or another in almost every episode. But it’s hard to really learn much about the secondary characters because of their limited time on-screen.
Thus we've had episodes about all of our regulars, like the one about Kevin Ryan’s past as an undercover cop that highlights for us where the steel that he occasionally shows in dealing with suspects comes from.

Fortitude, Season One, “Episode Four”
Written by Stephen Brady
Directed by Richard Laxton
Airs Thursdays at 10 pm (Et) on Pivot
Not as immediately visually arresting or mystifying as its preceding episodes, the newest chapter of Fortitude is the first to feel like a typical murder mystery. There are a few nice transitions—a shot of the polio-stricken young boy sitting in an incubator cuts to a shot of a derelict statue, a restaurant mascot perhaps, lying supine in the snow—and the pulsating, unstable music is still as cutting as the sharpest winter wind, but gone are the flashier touches, the super-tight compositions. The show continues to move centrifugal from the mysticism of the first episode, which, while inevitable, nonetheless comes as a sort of disappointment, given the profound beauty of that first hour. As the plot expands, the mystery becomes less sublime and more in the vein of a typical prestige television show.
