In 2005 a magnitude 7.6 earthquake rocked Pakistan and the mountainous region of Kashmir killing 80,000 people and leaving 3.5 million homeless. The few survivors of a village gather inside a former shelter for their animals to try and stay warm.

In May of 1996 Afghan Government soldiers battled to hold their defensive positions around Kabul. Fundamentalist Taliban forces poured out of Pakistan after almost 5 years of civil war, finally conquering Kabul in October of 1996.
