In case you happened to miss the exciting if not unbelievable news, filming has officially started on the long-delayed third season of HBO's Euphoria. Cameras began rolling on the highly anticipated season 3 in early 2025, as HBO shared in February a new photo of Zendaya back in character as Rue. The series had been away so long, many wondered if it would ever make it back to air.
But Euphoria defied the odds stacked against it — like strikes, creative differences, and real-life tragedy — to commence production on what HBO's boss has referred to as the likely final season. One last season for the road, a victory lap for the Emmy Award-winning series if you will. We've heard reports about who won't be back, and now we're learning who's joining season 3.
If you read the headline and were hoping that somehow Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce would be appearing in Euphoria season 3, no,...

When Sam Levinson's "Euphoria" debuted on HBO, the coming-of-age series quickly became a phenomenon. It provided Zendaya the platform to become the youngest two-time Emmy winner in history as well as the youngest person to win an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for her performance as high schooler Rue Bennett, undoubtedly the role that changed the trajectory of her entire career. Despite its edgy nature, "Euphoria" became a runaway mainstream success, one of the most discussed TV shows on social media, and the launchpad for a new class of Hollywood performers including Hunter Schaefer, Sydney Sweeney, Jacob Eloridi, Storm Reid, and the late Angus Cloud.
Based on the Israeli series of the same name, "Euphoria" follows troubled teenage drug addict Rue after her stint in rehab, struggling to adjust to her life in Southern California and maintaining sobriety. She meets and quickly falls in love...

Dominic Fike is returning for Season 3 of “Euphoria.”
While he was left off a list of new and returning cast members released by HBO on Friday, Variety can exclusively report that the “3 Nights” singer and actor will indeed reprise his role as Elliot in Sam Levinson’s hit high school drama. Fike is set to shoot a couple of scenes for the show next week, sources say.
HBO declined to comment.
Fike joined “Euphoria” in its second season, which premiered in January 2022. He played a guitar-slinging, drug-addicted teen who befriends Rue (Zendaya) and Jules (Hunter Schafer), wrapping them up in a messy love triangle and serving as an obstacle to Rue’s sobriety. Fike’s talents as a Grammy-nominated recording artist were highlighted in the Season 2 finale, as Elliot performs an original song on the acoustic guitar for Rue. Fike and Zendaya released a version of “Elliot’s Song” on music streaming services.

Two long-running studies published Tuesday reveal one place in America where gender parity grew in 2024: movie screens.
For the first time in the history of both studies, one conducted at the University of Southern California’s Annenberg Inclusion Initiative and one at San Diego State University’s Center for the Study of Women in Television and Film, top-grossing films with female leads were at least as common as top-grossing films with male leads.
The USC study found that, across the top 100 movies at the North American box office in 2024, more than half (54) featured a story that was centered on a female lead, including movies like Pixar’s Inside Out 2, led by Amy Poehler; Disney’s Moana 2, with Auliʻi Cravalho; Universal’s Wicked, with Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo; and Paramount’s A Quiet Place: Day One, starring Lupita Nyong’o. Representation for women in leading or co-lead roles hit a record high in the top-grossing films of 2024, while opportunities for people of color took a sharp decline.
For the first time since Dr. Stacy L. Smith and the USC Annenberg Inclusion Initiative began evaluating each year’s 100 top-grossing films, gender equality has been reached — with 54 films featuring a woman or girl in a lead or co-lead role.
According to the study, authored by Katherine L. Neff, Smith and Dr. Katherine Pieper, the percentage of girls and women as protagonists was at an all-time high (54%) — up from 30% in 2023 and more than double what was first reported in 2007 (20%). This figure not only reached but exceeded proportional representation with the U.S. population (50.4%).

After bringing romantic comedies back to form with 2023’s Anyone But You, Sydney Sweeney is in talks to star in a different kind of comedy for an adaptation of Edgar Allen Poe’s The Masque of the Red Death. Sweeney is negotiating to star in the feature-length project at A24 and Picturestart, based on the short story by the timeless teller of spooky stories, Edgar Allen Poe. Charlie Polinger is directing, writing, and executive producing the “darkly comedic” take on The Masque of the Red Death, with Lucy McKendrick also serving as an executive producer.
Edgar Allen Poe’s The Masque of the Red Death, first published in 1842, follows Prince Prospero’s attempts to avoid a dangerous plague while hiding in his abbey. Adam Driver has had an idiosyncratic career. He is simultaneously a beloved independent film actor who has also taken on controversial mainstream roles. Perhaps his most ire-inspiring role was playing Kylo Ren in the newer Star Wars movie, whose last installment, Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker, dismayed many fans. At the same time, however, Driver is a scene-stealer in movies like Inside Llewyn Davis and Frances Ha, which came out before his foray into a galaxy far, far away.
Driver's films have also gained notoriety in meme culture, and this year is no exception. The actor led the ensemble of Francis Ford Coppola's Megalopolis, a dystopian sci-fi fantasy romp that was met with divisive responses. While some critics appreciated his performance, lines from the film, especially his delivery of "go back to the club." Casey Bloys has damped down speculation that Euphoria’s third season won’t start filming in the new year.
Bloys, who is Chairman and CEO, HBO and Max Content said “nothing has changed”. “Somebody said something online and then this whole thing started. We are shooting the season, I have read the scripts, we’re happy, we’re moving ahead,” he added. “I know the show gets a lot of attention now because it has created some genuine movie stars, and they have various projects that they’re working on. But we are shooting this season, so nothing has changed.”
This comes after online reports that the Sam Levinson-created show would nix its 2025 shoot and ostensibly coming to an end.
In July, HBO revealed that the third season of the youth-skewing drama would shoot its third season in January, with filming pushed back from 2024 as Levinson was still working on scripts.

Joshua Weigel’s Sound of Hope (2024) is a well-intentioned drama that recounts the remarkable true story of the Martin family, who adopted 77 foster children in the East Texas community of Possum Trot. Centring around Donna and Bishop W.C. Martin (Nika King and Demetrius Grosse), this inspiring tale celebrates the power of faith, community, and human compassion in the south of the United States.
The film focuses primarily on the Martins’ faith-driven motivations and the inspiring achievement of uniting their community to take action. It celebrates their extraordinary efforts, though it places less emphasis on exploring the emotional and psychological complexities of the adoption process. While the story centres on the Martins’ leadership and the community’s collective spirit, there is definitely room for a deeper exploration of the adopted children’s perspectives, which could add further emotional resonance to the narrative. Nevertheless, Sound of Hope’s focus on the...

Based on remarkable work in a small Texan community to adopt children considered ‘too difficult’ to foster, the film gets lost in saccharine cliche
After its controversial US box office hit Sound of Freedom, producer Angel Studios has put its weight behind another title that crudely mines child misery. Directed by Joshua Weigel, the film purports to tackle America’s broken foster care system through the true story of Donna Martin and her husband Bishop Wc Martin, played here by Nika King and Demetrius Grosse. Living in Possum Trot, Texas, the Christian couple took in youngsters deemed too “difficult” to place within the foster system. More extraordinarily, they also galvanised 22 families in their congregation to follow their steps.
In the end, a total of 77 displaced children were adopted within the community. On screen, however, this fascinating story is superficially told through saccharine cliches. Though forceful in its pro-adoption stance, the...

Will we see Euphoria Season 3 in 2025? HBO has just announced that the highly-anticipated third season will begin filming in January.
While the third-season renewal was announced way back in February 2022, the production has been pushed back several times since then. HBO says that all of the principal cast members will return.
“I am thrilled that we are ready to begin production on Euphoria in January,” said Francesca Orsi, executive vice president of HBO programming and head of HBO drama series and films.
“We could not be happier with our creative partnership with Sam and this incredible cast. We look forward to bringing this new season of Euphoria to life for the fans.”
The popular series’ first season premiered in June 2019, and the second season launched in January 2022. Two one-hour specials aired in December 2020 and January 2021.
Sam Levinson created the Emmy-winning drama series and is the writer, director, and executive producer.

The chances of Euphoria airing its third season next year have increased after HBO revealed that the youth-skewing drama is set to enter production in January.
Deadline reported in March that filming plans for the Sam Levinson-created series had been pushed back with Levinson still working on scripts.
Filming will now start at the top of next year with all of the principle cast returning. Also, expect a time jump between the second and third seasons.
At the time of the announcement in March, cast members were being allowed to take other jobs such as Eric Dane joining Jensen Ackles and Jessica Camacho in Prime Video’s thriller series Countdown.
HBO is cognizant of this move so will film around certain actors’ schedules. It’s not clear whether the third season will be its last but it’s hard to imagine HBO finding time in its stars’ schedule for...

After a very long hiatus between seasons, HBO’s Euphoria is preparing to head back into production.
Filming on the Sam Levinson-created drama’s third season is slated to begin in January 2025 — just about three years after the premiere of season two. HBO says all of the principal cast, inlcuding Zendaya, Sydney Sweeney, Jacob Elordi and Hunter Schafer, is set to return.
“I am thrilled that we are ready to begin production on Euphoria in January,” said Francesca Orsi, executive vp HBO programming and head of HBO drama series and films. “We could not be happier with our creative partnership with Sam and this incredible cast. HBO hasn’t set an airdate, but it’s unlikely that Euphoria would be ready to go before late next year, which would mean a gap of up to four years between seasons.

In a small East Texas town called Possum Trot, Reverend Wc Martin and his wife Donna felt called to help children in need. In the late 1990s, the couple began adopting youth from the foster system, many of whom were considered difficult placements. Donna, in particular, felt compassion for these kids, having lost her own mother, who left behind 18 children of her own.
While Wc took some time to come around, in the end, he supported Donna’s mission. Together, they opened their homes and hearts to four kids, including a teenager named Terri, who was escaping severe abuse. Donna hoped to give all these youth comfort, yet Terri in particular faced immense struggles and needed patience as she learned to heal.
Donna and Wc’s example ultimately inspired others in their congregation. Before they knew it, 22 families had joined in adopting 77 children from foster care around town. It was...

The East Texas town of Possum Trot received national notice in 2008 when ABC News, followed by “Oprah” and a slew of television shows that knew a heart-warmer when they saw it, sang the deserved praises of Rev. W.C. Martin and Donna Martin. The couple are the real-life basis of the faith-infused drama “Sound of Hope: The Story of Possum Trot,” opening July 4 after a Juneteenth sneak nationwide.

Angel Studios' Sound Of Hope: The Story Of Possum Trot tells the true story of Bishop and First Lady Donna Martin, and their tiny Bennett Chapel church, in the town of Possum Trot in the woods of East Texas.

Last week, we sat down with stars Demetrius Grosse (Fear The Walking Dead) and Nika King (Euphoria) to discuss their roles as Reverend Wc Martin and First Lady Donna Martin.
Explaining how they tapped into the charming dynamic between the husband and wife, we hear from the actors about getting to meet the real-life Reverand and First Lady, what it was like delivering sermons on set, and working with rising star Diaana Babnicova.

After the success of Sound of Freedom, it became hard to ignore Angel Studios’s growing power in the film industry. The production company not only found a new way to distribute its movies. It found an incredibly effective way to ensure its movies are seen. For a film like Sound of Hope: The Story of Possum Trot, ensuring audiences see your issue-based film may change lives. Creating a pseudo-shared franchise with Sound of Freedom may create huge dividends for Angel Studios. They also brought Letitia Wright on board to produce the film.

Euphoria Season 3's Best Future Is Following This Beloved British Teen Drama's Final Season Approach

Euphoria season 3 faces obstacles in production, but a time jump could refresh the show and simplify filming logistics. Skins UK season 7 structure could inspire Euphoria season 3 to focus on standalone episodes for character evolution. Ending Euphoria after season 3 makes sense to maintain interest and streamline the storyline with select characters.
Euphoria's best chance of making its third season a success is by following the final season approach of one of Britain's most popular teen dramas. Euphoria season 3 was announced over two years ago, but production has not even started. Thanks to the lack of filming updates, there are concerns that Euphoria season 3 might not even happen. Rumors surfaced earlier this year that HBO was prepared to walk away from Euphoria if there wasn't a clear path forward to bring the show back.
Euphoria season 2's ending left plenty of plot threads dangling, so there has to be another chapter to satisfyingly conclude the show.

Last year, Angel Studios opened a booth at CinemaCon in Last Vegas to launch its distribution arm. That paid off handsomely after “Sound of Freedom” exploded to a $250 million worldwide gross. This year, they took to a much bigger stage for a Caesar’s Palace breakfast presentation and announced its intention to stun the industry again.

Angel dated “David” for Thanksgiving weekend 2025, but it presented a full trailer and a full song to a packed, standing-room only house inside the Palace Ballroom. The trailer also touted that former NFL quarterback Tim Tebow is an executive producer on the project.

Will Euphoria Season 3 ever see the light of day?
That’s been the big question ever since stars like Jacob Elordi and Sydney Sweeney soared in popularity after the release of Euphoria Season 2 in 2022.
Zendaya, who headlines the Emmy-winning drama, was a massive star before the show, and her career has continued to go from strength to strength during a lengthy hiatus between Euphoria Season 2 and the planned Euphoria Season 3.
When rumors swirled last week that the show had been canceled, HBO quickly pointed out that the cast was expected to return for filming later.
According to Variety, the series’ future is uncertain due to a myriad of issues.
Creator Sam Levinson allegedly turned in scripts for the third season that left HBO “feeling unsatisfied.”

“Euphoria” star Storm Reid has acknowledged the recent news from HBO that filming of Season 3 on the Sam Levinson-created series has been put on hold, expressing optimism that the production will come together down the line.
“I would hope the viewers, the audience will be able to finish the show,” Reid tells Variety, speaking Thursday at the opening of USC’s School of Dramatic Arts’ Drama Center in Los Angeles. “I think we should handle the show with care. We’ve put our hearts and soul into it.”
News of the production delay was confirmed Monday. “HBO and Sam Levinson remain committed to making an exceptional third season,” an HBO spokesperson told Variety at the time. “In the interim, we are allowing our in-demand cast to pursue other opportunities.”
Asked if she was surprised by the delay, Reid said, “Yes and no. We would all hope to be able to go back tomorrow,...

Filming for Euphoria season three has been put on hold.
The Sam Levinson drama was expected to start production soon on its long-awaited new season. But that plan has changed to give Levinson more time to work on the dark teen drama’s scripts.
In addition, the show’s cast — which includes Dune: Part Two star Zendaya and Anyone but You star Sydney Sweeney — is being allowed to pursue other opportunities.
“HBO and Sam Levinson remain committed to making an exceptional third season,” HBO said in a statement. “In the interim, we are allowing our in-demand cast to pursue other opportunities.”
That said, the cast has not been released from their contracts, and HBO still intends to get Euphoria season three on the air sometime in 2025.
In an interview with Elle for Zendaya’s September 2023 cover story, Levinson had teased the new season as a “film noir,” saying Zendaya’s...

“Euphoria” Season 3 has been delayed at HBO.
“HBO and Sam Levinson remain committed to making an exceptional third season,” an HBO spokesperson told Variety. “In the interim, we are allowing our in-demand cast to pursue other opportunities.”
The scripts for Season 3 are still being written. The news comes after a report that the show’s third season has been scrapped entirely.
Production on the show’s third season had long been delayed, in part due to the Hollywood strikes and the July 2023 death of Angus Cloud, who played local drug dealer Fez. The show has also launched most of its cast — including Zendaya, Jacob Elordi, Sydney Sweeney and Hunter Schafer — into the upper echelon of Hollywood, making it harder to coordinate production schedules.
In November 2023, HBO confirmed that the show’s third season was expected to premiere in 2025, meaning there would be at least a three-year gap between seasons since...

Rue spirals out of control in episode 5, showcasing Zendaya's Emmy-winning acting skills as she battles inner demons and addiction. Maddy learns about Cassie and Nate, Rue faces danger and desperation, and Fez draws a line with Rue, creating intense drama. "Stand Still Like the Hummingbird" is the best episode of Euphoria season 2, delving deep into addiction, family dynamics, and pure emotion.
"Stand Still Like the Hummingbird" is the fifth episode of Euphoria season 2, as all the show's greatest qualities come together to create the best moments of the season. Euphoria season 2 may have more popular than season 1, but the quality does dip in the show's sophomore installment, as creator Sam Levinson was allowing his more indulgent sensibilities to overload the already thematically rich series.
However, there are still bright spots in Euphoria season 2, namely "Stand Still Like the Hummingbird", where Levinson's strongest directorial instincts, the Euphoria cast's best performances,...
