Meghan McCain says a comment made by Joy Behar was the final straw that prompted her to leave “The View.”
McCain exited her co-hosting duties in July 2021. While there were “a lot of factors” that contributed to her exit, she said on “The Commentary Magazine Podcast” that it was something Behar told her on-air right after she returned from maternity leave in January of that year that made her realize she needed to leave the ABC talk show for good.
“I finally went back to the show, and the day I went back to the show, Joy Behar said on air, ‘Nobody missed you, we didn’t miss you, you shouldn’t have come back,’” McCain said. “I started hysterically crying. Sorry gentlemen, I know, I started lactating on air, and crying, hysterical.”

Steve Schmidt, the senior adviser to the presidential campaign of Sen. John McCain and a frequent Republican voice on MSNBC, is renouncing the party to which he’s belonged for nearly 30 years. “It is full the party of Trump,” Schmidt tweeted by way of explanation.
“29 years and nine months ago I registered to vote and became a member of The Republican Party which was founded in 1854 to oppose slavery and stand for the dignity of human life. Today I renounce my membership in the Republican Party. It is full the party of Trump.”
In a string of morning tweets, the MSNBC contributor called the current Republican Party “a danger to our democracy and values” and decried the separation of migrant parents from their children, calling detention centers ““internment camps for babies.”

Washington — Steve Schmidt, who was senior adviser to John McCain’s 2008 presidential campaign and later an MSNBC contributor, said on Wednesday that he is leaving the Republican party, citing the Trump administration’s border separation policy as a factor in his decision.
He wrote on Twitter that “29 years and nine months ago I registered to vote and became a member of The Republican Party which was founded in 1854 to oppose slavery and stand for the dignity of human life. Today I renounce my membership in the Republican Party. It is fully the party of Trump.” He wrote that the Gop has “become a danger to our democracy and our values.”

Gop operative and MSNBC political analyst Steve Schmidt announced Wednesday he was done with the Republican party, telling his fans in a lengthy twitter thread that President Trump’s policy of separating undocumented immigrant families at the border was a bridge too far.
“Today I renounce my membership in the Republican Party. It is fully the party of Trump,” said Schmidt.
“This child separation policy is connected to the worst abuses of humanity in our history. It is connected by the same evil that separated families during slavery and dislocated tribes and broke up Native American families,” he added in the thread. “Today the Gop has become a danger to our democracy and values.”
