In the wake of the box office success of Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire and the small screen success of “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters,” Legendary is leaning even harder into the Monsterverse that kicked off back in 2014. We’ve learned this afternoon that “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters” Season 2 has been officially ordered up for Apple TV+!
Additionally, “Apple TV+ has also struck a new multi-series deal with Legendary Entertainment, which includes multiple spinoff series based on the franchise.”
“Monarch: Legacy of Monsters” premiered late last year, the first small screen project from the big screen Monsterverse that includes Godzilla, King Kong, and other monsters.
Following the thunderous battle between Godzilla and the Titans that leveled San Francisco and the shocking revelation that monsters are real, “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters” tracks two siblings following in their father’s footsteps to uncover their family’s connection to the secretive organization known as Monarch.

VFX supervisor Sean Konrad was tasked with bringing to life some iconic titans back for Apple TV+’s ten-part series “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters.” Among them are “Kong: Skull Island’s” Mother Longlegs and Godzilla, as well as some new monsters, including a crab-inspired titan and star-mole beast.
Showrunner and co-creator Chris Black had always wanted to open the series on Skull Island to root the viewer in familiarity without having to rewatch past films. The opening episode sees Bill Randa (John Goodman) being chased through a bamboo forest that opens out onto a rock peninsula before Mother Longlegs emerges. Moments later, a giant rock crab creature known as Mantleclaw comes out of the ground, and a battle between the two monsters begins. For Black and Konrad, it was a way of paying homage to the MonsterVerse lore and allowed them to draw from the Hawaiian location.

Apple TV+ has also recently premiered Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, which chronicles the secret agency that investigates and polices the activity of these ancient beasts. Add to that the recent release of the critically and audience-acclaimed Japanese film, Godzilla Minus One, currently in theaters. And this past weekend, Warner Bros. released the trailer for a new Monsterverse film, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire.
While Monarch has already premiered with the father-son star power of Kurt and Wyatt Russell, Apple has now unveiled a trailer for the second half of the season. The official synopsis for the series reads,...

Movie franchises moving to the small screen tend to come with significant caveats, thanks to lower budgets.
Fortunately, no expense was spared in producing the Apple TV+ drama series Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, a new series based on Legendary's Monserverse.
The official trailer for the highly-anticipated project dropped during a New York Comic-Con panel for the series, and let's just say we're convinced.
The impressive cast includes Kurt Russell, Wyatt Russell, Anna Sawai, Kiersey Clemons, Ren Watabe, Mari Yamamoto, Anders Holm, Joe Tippett, and Elisa Lasowski.
That's a perfect cast who bring their A-game in the trailer, showcasing a very different world after the battle between Godzilla and the Titans.
With San Francisco pretty much obliterated in that battle, there's a desire for answers about why monsters have become so prominent.
The official logline reads:

All monsters attack! Set after the events of 2014’s epic Godzilla film, where the radiated reptile trudged through San Francisco, this addictive Apple TV+ series sees the big-screen behemoths known as Titans creating chaos again. As for the humans in the emotional and surprisingly intimate tale that is Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, San Fran survivor Cate (Anna Sawai) is traveling to Japan to locate her Mia father. There, she uncovers a jaw-dropping betrayal and—with help from her half brother (Ren Watabe) and an American hacker (Kiersey Clemons)—her family’s link to the covert Monarch group that’s been investigating the Titans for decades. But who are the real monsters here? “Sometimes it’s figurative and sometimes it’s literal,” says executive producer Tory Tunnell. Through 1950s flashbacks, it’s revealed how a team of Monarch agents, including Army officer Lee Shaw (Wyatt Russell), were tracking Titans in hopes of discovering their origins.
