Paris (France), Oct 6 (Ians) The organisers of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games have revealed the route for the marathon event, which was described as “unprecedented and challenging”.
Starting at the Paris City Hall, athletes will run to Chateau de Versailles on the western outskirts of Paris, then return to the city centre and finish at the Invalides.
The course, revealed on Wednesday, will take in some of the most well-known sights and monuments of Paris and its surroundings, such as the Opera Garnier, Jardin des Tuileries, Pyramides du Louvre, Place de la Concorde, and the Eiffel Tower.
“The route, with its historical foundations, also reflects our constant desire to bring the sport to the heart of the city. It combines sporting performance with an exceptional cultural and architectural heritage, and to open the Games to different territories,” said Tony Estanguet, the president of the Paris 2024 Organizing Committee.

They’re not big football fans (that we know of!), but Princess Kate, Prince William and Prince Harry made the most of their Super Bowl Sunday with a visit to Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in London.
The royal trio stopped by the start line of the London Marathon Community Track in the shadow of the 2012 Olympic Stadium in support of Heads Together, their ongoing campaign to highlight mental health.
The royals joined 150 Team Heads Together volunteers who are preparing to run the 2017 London Marathon in support of the campaign — along with women’s marathon world-record holder Paula Radcliffe, 43.

With the world on royal-baby watch over the weekend, Prince Harry attended the London Marathon on Sunday. He posed for pictures with race winners and presented the lifetime achievement award to three-time winner Paula Radcliffe, later chatting with volunteers at the finish line. Prince Harry's London stop came during a busy time for the royal, who made a short trip to Turkey with his father, Prince Charles, before heading to England. While he was in town, he reportedly visited Prince William and Kate Middleton at Kensington Palace, and on Monday, he returned to Australia to continue with army training. Keep reading to see the best pictures of Prince Harry's London outing, then check out photos from Kate and Prince George's cute day at the petting zoo!

We asked Den Of Geek’s writers to recommend brilliant comedy shows that deserve to have more of a fuss made about them. Here they are...
Banging a drum about stuff we love is more or less our remit on Den Of Geek - hence what many readers have started referring to as the ‘inexplicably regular' appearance of Statham, squirrels and Harold Bishop from Neighbours on these pages.
To that end then, we asked our writers which comedy shows (past and present, UK or otherwise, on TV, radio, or online…) deserved more praise, and here are the ones they chose. You might already like them too, or you might discover something new to dig out and enjoy. That’s the fun of it.
Please note that this list isn’t ranked in any order, nor is it exhaustive. It’s compiled from the opinions of a group of different people,...

Following last night’s deserved victory for Bradley Wiggins, here’s six greats that somehow never got their hands on BBC Sports Personality of the Year…
6. Phil “The Power” Taylor
Only true greats manage to dominate a sport; think Schumacher in his Ferrari, Manchester United in the Premier League, or Australia in the Ashes series of the nineties and early noughties. None of them, however, can come close to Phil “The Power” Taylor’s domination of world darts. With fifteen Pdc World Championships to his name, thirteen World Matchplay Championships, and five Player of the Year awards, it is perhaps a travesty that Taylor is yet to win the ultimate people’s accolade (although winning Fans’ Player of the Year for the last five years running is probably some consolation).
Taylor is likely to be consigned to the Lifetime Achievement Award sometime in the future rather than the showpiece trophy,...

BBC execs will be hoping Danny Boyle's opening ceremony will beat the ratings for the Diamond Jubilee Concert
A glance at the recent history books suggests two things about the BBC's coverage of the Olympics. First, that at least one aspect of its output will be controversial, whether it is inappropriate presenters, inadequate highlights, or a pair of shorts that are just too short.
Second, in ratings terms the BBC's Olympics programming will do to other broadcasters what Usain Bolt tends to do to the other runners in the 100 metres.
This year's Games are likely to be no different, with 2,500 hours of coverage across its various channels (including 24 dedicated Olympics services) and the corporation's critics lined up to seize anything as inappropriate as an 2012-themed sickbag.
The London 2012 Games, it can be reasonably assumed, will be the most popular ever with UK viewers, with BBC schedulers unhindered by the...

Charlie Chaplin isn’t a figure you’d usually associate with talking let alone hip-hop music yet here the final speech from his 1940 comedy film The Great Dictator (mocking Hitler and the Nazis no less) is re-captured by new British group Caxton Press as a call-to-arms outro for the masses to stand up and take note. Enter Shame the Devil, the band’s debut LP – a myriad of cultural and literary references, old-school rapping and the whole spectrum of sampling and production courtesy of Profound. The quartet of rappers (Kingpin, Amy True, eMCee Killa & Manage) plus live show DJ Snuff each boast impressive bios, ranging from performing at BBC Radio 1 Maida Vale Studios to touring worldwide to singing for Barack Obama’s stepmother (rather than his Uncle or his cousin twice removed obviously...

British comedian Russell Brand has been blasted by physically disabled athletes after describing the Paralympics as having a "novelty value".
The comedian made the comment while joking about London's upcoming Olympic Games at a stand-up gig on Tuesday.
He told the crowd, "I don't give a f**k about the Olympics. It's boring Blue Peter sport and a waste of taxpayers' money. At least the Paralympics have some kind of novelty value or something."
Several leading Paralympians have spoken out against Brand after taking exception to the remark, calling the joke "patronising".
Wheelchair racer David Weird, who won two gold medals at the 2008 Beijing games, tells Britain's The People, "Calling the sport a novelty is offensive. It's not like I get up, do one marathon then go to bed for the rest of the year. I train every day - I am no different to Paula Radcliffe."
Dressage star Natasha Baker adds, "We've worked harder than anyone to get here. We've suffered life-threatening illnesses. It's both patronising and upsetting for Russell Brand to describe us as a novelty."...

Nike's Mark Parker brings together extreme talents, whether they're basketball stars, tattooists, or designers obsessed with shoes.
"It still has moon-dust on it." Mark Parker sounds like a happy kid as he points to an astronaut manual from the Apollo mission inside his glass-topped desk at Nike's Beaverton, Oregon, headquarters. Over his shoulder, Keith Richards, at least the version of the Rolling Stones guitarist by German artist Sebastian Krüger, feigns a boozy disinterest. "And here," says Parker, swinging around in his chair, "is Jimi Hendrix's guitar."
It is astonishing to see this shoe designer turned CEO in his natural habitat, surrounded by artwork he has commissioned or collected, mixed in with bits of Nike history, such as the boots Michael Keaton wore in the 1989 hit Batman. Next to Keith Richards is a bas-relief by Missouri sculptor Kris Kuksi. Parker owns three of his pieces, one a blank-check commission.
