A new "Jurassic World" movie on the way, and it's happening in a hurry. In the span of just a month, we learned that original "Jurassic Park" writer David Koepp has returned to the franchise to pen this mysterious new entry, Universal Pictures is planning to release the film next summer, and they are looking to begin filming in just a few months. Given that we only learned about the movie's existence several weeks ago, it's all pretty surprising. So, who will be shepherding this project through production? None other than Gareth Edwards.
We recently learned that the filmmaker behind franchise films such as 2014's "Godzilla" and "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" will occupy the director's chair. It marks the third time that Edwards will helm an installment in a long-running franchise, which is never an easy task. Yet, both times that he stepped up to the plate, Edwards...

Here we go again. Another year is starting, which means it's time for the "He-Man and the Masters of the Universe" movie to get yet another director. Like so many projects stuck in developing hell, it seems like practically every director currently working in Hollywood has, at some point, been involved in this film.
Now, Deadline reports that Travis Knight — the director of "Bumblebee" and "Kubo and the Two Strings," founder and CEO of Laika, and son of Nike co-founder Phil Knight — is the latest name to be attached to the long-in-development "Masters of the Universe" movie from Mattel. The report specifically says he is in "final negotiations" to direct, yet the deal hasn't closed just yet as other elements of the film are still being figured out. Nevertheless, this is exciting news, and brings the project one step closer to actually getting made.

Deadline notes that “Travis Knight is in final negotiations to direct.” The exclusive report goes on to say, “Insiders say his deal has still not closed and that other elements on the project are still coming together but all signs are pointing to Knight being the top choice to direct.”
Adam and Aaron Nee (The Lost City) wrote the original version of the script with David Callaham (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings), which Chris Butler will rewrite.
The site also reports, “This film revolves around when Prince Adam was 9-years-old, he crashed to Earth in a spaceship and was separated from his Magical Sword – the only link to his home on Eternia. After tracking it down almost two decades later,...

Mattel’s Masters of the Universe movie hasn’t had the easiest path, but the long-in-development project has taken a big step forward as Deadline reports that Bumblebee director Travis Knight is in final negotiations to helm the movie.
Although Deadline cautions that the deal is still coming together, the report states that Knight was the only director in the mix to give an in-person presentation, which made him the top choice for the gig. Chris Butler will rewrite the script from the previous draft penned by David Callaham, Aaron and Adam Nee. The project was previously set up at Netflix, but the streaming service scrapped the project last summer. It was later reported that the movie could find a new home at Amazon MGM Studios, and according to Deadline, they’re now in final negotiations for the rights.

In one of the odder twists of this awards season, the script that Ava DuVernay wrote for her film Origin has been deemed an adapted screenplay by the executive committee of the Academy’s writers branch, The Hollywood Reporter has learned, despite being classified as an original screenplay by the Writers Guild of America.
The moving drama, which premiered to acclaim at the Venice and Toronto international film festivals, was inspired by Isabel Wilkerson’s 2020 best-selling book Caste: The Origins of Our Discontent. Wilkerson, a Pulitzer Prize winner for her 2010 book The Warmth of Other Suns, is not featured at all in Caste, but is the beating heart and soul of Origin, as portrayed by Oscar nominee Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor (King Richard). The book is about prejudice across vast swaths of history and geography, but the film, meanwhile, chronicles Wilkerson’s path to arriving at those connections.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse took the unique animation style of the first movie and cranked the dial straight to eleven. While the Spider-Verse sequel was a big success, it came under fire for harsh working conditions that reportedly pushed artists to the brink in order to get the film done.

As I tell my students, choices have consequences. Brilliantly, several choices made by Mikles Morales and his friends come back to bite them in the ass in the wonderful, if bloated, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.
Out now from Sony Home Entertainment, the 2:20 film is merely part one of a more sprawling saga that is entirely built around Miles (Shameik Moore) making a decision in the previous film that has multiversal implications.
In fact, his repercussions have such omniversal impact that Spider-Man 2099 (Oscar Isaac) has formed the Spider-Society with its core members traversing the multiverse to repair the damage (with a wonderful throwaway line about Doctor Strange).
Miles is blissfully unaware of this until another of his actions appears in the form of a new foe, the Spot (Jason Schwartzman), who is seen mastering his powers with growing confidence until he makes a mistake and enters himself and, therefore, the multiverse.

With the many, many, many versions of Spider-Man introduced in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, it says something that Spider-Punk emerged as a breakout character. However, the character wasn’t always part of the story and the producers had to fight to keep him in the movie once Daniel Kaluuya signed on.
Spider-Punk (Daniel Kaluuya), aka Hobie Brown, is part of the Spider-Society in Across the Spider-Verse, although he mostly plays by his own rules. He forms a bond with Gwen Stacy (Hailee Steinfeld) and by the end of the film, the stage is set for Hobie to play a bigger role in the upcoming sequel. “He was in and out of the picture for a little while because we weren’t sure which elements we were going to stick in this part and which were going to migrate to the next movie,” Phil Lord told Entertainment Weekly. “When we met Daniel Kaluuya,...

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse was recently released on Digital and fans quickly noticed many small changes from the version they recall seeing in theaters. While speaking with GamesRadar, Spider-Verse producers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller explained the reason behind the changes.
“There was an international version that was made almost two months before the movie came out because it had to be translated into different languages and these French censors have to decide what the rating of the movie is in Europe,” Christopher Miller explained. “The team at [Sony Pictures] Imageworks still had some shots that they felt they could do better for the finished version. So, they cleaned up and tweaked those things.“
Miller added that crew members would suggest other changes that made their way into the constantly shifting cut of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. “Certain crew members – people in the sound department or on the animation team – were like,...

Skeletor must be in charge over at Netflix: The streamer is pulling the plug on Masters of the Universe, a planned live-action movie adaptation of the He-Man animated series and toy line, our sister site Variety reports. Toy maker Mattel is shopping the project to other studios.
The decision to scrap the film reportedly came down to “budget concerns,” with Netflix beginning with a production budget over $200 million and then trying unsuccessfully to pare that down to $150 million. Sources tell Variety that more than $30 million had already been spent on the project.

The Hollywood Critics Association has presented its midseason awards for the sixth time since 2018, giving Best Picture and Director to “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.” The big winner a year ago was eventual Oscar juggernaut “Everything Everywhere All at Once.” Does that make them a new Oscar bellwether? Probably not, considering just how unique a phenomenon that movie proved to be. However, if this boost to “Spider-Verse’s” fledgling campaign results in the critically acclaimed animated film actually contending for the academy’s top award, studios may begin treating the Hca Midyears like a stop along the road to the Oscars and elevate their importance. And if it doesn’t, we may still see more overlap in the future if Oscar showings by spring releases “Eeaao,” “Top Gun: Maverick” and “Elvis” discourage winter backloading.

While The Flash may be struggling to find its footing at the box office, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is having no such issue. Sony’s animated sequel has now crossed $500 million at the worldwide box office, with $290.5 million domestically and $215.9 million internationally. Way to go, Spidey.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is also miles ahead of the first movie, which took in $384 worldwide, a number the sequel crossed in just 12 days. Across the Spider-Verse obviously still has legs at the box office, despite competition from Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, Elemental, and The Flash.

“When Miles Morales is unexpectedly approached by his best friend and love interest Gwen Stacy to complete a mission to save every universe of Spider-People from a mysterious new villain who could cause a catastrophic disaster, Miles is up for the challenge,” reads the official synopsis for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse has been blocked from release in the United Arab Emirates after failing to pass local censorship laws, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

Spoiler Alert: This story discusses major plot developments and surprises throughout “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse,” now playing in theaters.
For months, the directors of “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” had been working exhaustively on a critical sequence that launches the movie’s second act. For the first time in his life, the animated film’s hero — Miles Morales (Shameik Moore), a.k.a. the Spider-Man of Earth-1610 — enters a different dimension: Earth-50101, a.k.a. Mumbattan, a dazzling amalgamation of New York City and Mumbai. Within minutes, Miles and his Bff from 2018’s “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse,” Gwen Stacy (Hailee Steinfeld), encounter that world’s Spider-Man, Pavitr Prabhakar (Karan Soni), an Indian teenager who received his powers not via spider bite, but through magic. The sequence launches them all through the vertiginously vertical metropolis, as they frantically try to stop the film’s villain, the Spot (Jason Schwartzman), from using Mumbattan...

"Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse" is out in theaters now. Perhaps you've seen it. If so, I bet you couldn't tell that an entire segment came from someone who isn't even old enough to have a driver's license. Of course, Miles Morales, the main character in the film, is in his teens as well. This news just makes this film all the more wonderful.
According to a tweet from CultureCrave, retweeted by "Spider-Verse" co-writer/producer Phil Lord, the Lego segment in the new film was animated by none other than 14-year-old Preston Mutanga. Spider-Man stories have been on our screens for over two decades now. In that time we’ve seen plenty of villains, sidekicks, and adventures, including multiverse crossovers. So, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse doesn’t sound like it can offer anything new or exciting, it sounds like a concept we’ve seen the MCU dive deep into in the last few years. What Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse does is blow any of those Spider-Man stories and multiverse stories out the window, bringing the most exciting, original, and fresh superhero movie since the first instalment (Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse). Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is spinning a powerful web at the box office.
The sequel opened to $120.5 million in North America, well ahead of expectations and the third-biggest opening ever for an animated film, as well as a best-ever for Sony Animation, not adjusted for inflation. It’s also the second-biggest opening of 2023 to date. The movie, which easily come in at No. 1, boasts both stellar reviews and audience scores.
Across the Spider-Verse also flexed its muscles overseas, opening to $88.1 million from 57 markets for a worldwide bow of $208.6 million.
Across the Spider-Verse played older than a traditional kids animated movie, with 67 percent of ticket buyers in North America falling between ages 18 and 34. And, like almost all superhero films, the pic skewed male (62 percent), according to PostTrak. EntTelligence reports that the film enjoyed the most foot traffic of any 2023 release behind Universal’s The Super Movie Bros. Movie.
The accolades don’t stop there.

I don’t know how many people were expecting Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse to become one of the best Spider-Man movies of all-time, but that’s exactly what happened. The tremendous success of the first movie certainly set a high bar for the sequel, but it sounds as though Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is more than up to the challenge. The Spider-Verse is already off to an impressive start at the box-office, scoring $16 million in Thursday previews.
“After reuniting with Gwen Stacy, Brooklyn’s full-time, friendly neighborhood Spider-Man is catapulted across the Multiverse, where he encounters the Spider Society, a team of Spider-People charged with protecting the Multiverse’s very existence,” reads the official Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse synopsis. “But when the heroes clash on how to handle a new threat, Miles finds himself pitted against the other Spiders and must set out on his own to save those he loves most.

Are your Spider-Senses tingling? That's because this article is about to discuss major spoilers for "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse." You have been warned!
2018's "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse" had a lot of fun playing around with the idea that -- for most fans, at least -- if you've seen one "Spider-Man" movie, then you've seen them all. The screenplay relies on a series of recurring gags where various Spider-Mans recount their specific backstories and origins, humorously breezing past all the tropes we ought to know by now (a radioactive spider?? Uncle Ben dies?? What?!) so that the film could get to the really interesting stuff ... including the payoff where Miles Morales (voiced by Shameik Moore) finally narrates his own journey and earns his official comic book cover. The movie passes that baton on to "Across the Spider-Verse," though with one added wrinkle.
As we learn around the midpoint of the sequel,...

Don’t tell me “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” is merely a cartoon. It’s a visionary work that redefines what the animation medium can achieve, sitting alongside the handful of sequels such as “The Dark Knight” and “The Empire Strikes Back” that elevate their franchises by pushing them in surprising new directions.
On a personal level, this animated second installment of the web-slinging superhero is the closest I’ve ever come to seeing an accurate depiction of my life and culture on a movie screen – well, with a few fantastic elements added into the mix. That’s invaluable.
“Across the Spider-Verse” takes place a year after the events of the previous film with Miles Morales (a.k.a. Spider-Man) facing a new threat. Unfortunately, it’s one that causes him to interact with a new group of Spider-People from across the multiverse.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse has wasted no time in spinning an impressive web at the box office.
The sequel grossed $17.4 million in Thursday previews, the second-best showing ever for an animated title (that’s not exactly a surprise, considering the pic is playing older than a traditional kids animated movie).
The sequel to best animated feature Oscar winner Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse should enjoy a domestic debut of $80 million or more over the June 2-4 weekend.
In 2018, the Phil Lord and Christopher Miller-produced Into the Spider-Verse opened to $35.6 million domestically on its way to becoming a box office sensation and topping out at $384.2 million worldwide.
Across the Spider-Verse again follows Marvel’s Miles Morales/Spider-Man, voiced by Shameik Moore, and Gwen Stacy/Spider-Woman, voiced by Hailee Steinfeld, set across the multiverse of Spider-People. New voice castmembers include Issa Rae (Jessica Drew).

This article contains major spoilers for "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse."
After nearly five years of waiting, "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse" is finally in theaters. The story was simply too big to be contained in a single film, though, so audiences have much more to look forward to as this is just the first part of a two-part story that was cooked up by producers Phil Lord and Chris Miller, alongside co-writer Dave Callaham. This means we now await the release of "Beyond the Spider-Verse" next year. Not only will that movie resolve the big cliffhanger we were left with this time around, but it will seemingly bring one of the most notorious supervillain groups to the big screen for the first time. That's right! It looks like we're finally getting the Sinister Six.

Warning: this post contains spoilers for "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse."
The wait is finally over and, nearly five years after the original "Into the Spider-Verse" introduced the first cinematic version of Miles Morales to the world, the beloved Marvel superhero is back in "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse." Much like the 2018 film, producers Phill Lord and Chris Miller helped inject a great deal of humor into the film, having penned the screenplay alongside David Callaham. While there are many, many great jokes peppered throughout the sequel, one joke stands a cut above the rest as not only deeply hilarious but as a demonstration of precisely what makes these films work so well.
Towards the end of the first act of the movie when things are starting to come together and we're beginning to explore some of the other universes within the Spider-Verse, we take a little visit to Lego Spidey's world.

If you have a favorite incarnation of Spider-Man in any form—comics, films, TV series, games, whatever—chances are you’ll catch a glimpse of that version somewhere in Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse. The previous film, Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse, introduced the concept of the multiverse and parallel worlds.
