Tom Stade has said that he is in favour of total freedom of speech.
The stand-up comedian and Tramadol Nights writer told Digital Spy that he finds things on the news offensive, rather than the expression of ideas.
"I can put my feet in both camps, that's for sure," Stade said of performing at such different shows as Michael McIntyre's Roadshow and Frankie Boyle's The Boyle Variety Performance.
"Your hands are kind of tied... let's face it, you have lawyers looking at your material before you go on any shows on the BBC."
He continued: "If I had my day it'd be total freedom of speech. I think there are grannies out there that can laugh at really dark senses of humour.
"As much as they say, 'Can you watch this with your granny?' Well I've watched a lot of rude things with my granny.

The location: Birmingham’s comedy haven, The Glee Club
The event: Day 25 of Tom Stade’s 'Tom Stade Totally Rocks' 2013 tour; a tour that has proved just how popular the Canadian born Stade has become in the last few years. Of course, Birmingham is a venue which resides close to Tom’s heart, having spent six years living in Bilston, Wolverhampton, and it’s clear from the rapturous applause the man receives just how fondly this city holds both him and his unique presentation of the comic form.
Nevertheless, to breeze past the wonderful support act accompanying Tom would be both wrong and against the wishes of the man himself – who makes no secret of his admiration towards his comical cohort – and so our review must start there.

Few comedians command a stage as confidently as Tom Stade.
Imagine the unflinching demeanor and elegance of a peacock, then combine it with the self-assured confidence bestowed upon us by our mighty friend alcohol...and you're still not even close. Simply put, Tom Stade is the product of an innate love of comedy, a willingness to try anything and an attitude that can take as much as it leaves. When this man retires from the stage he leaves you hungry... hungry for comedy; hungry for realism; but above all, hungry for the cold hard truth.
In Tom's routines no stone is left unturned; no avenue to dark...and this Canadian born funnyman knows this. Heck, it's why - in just four years - the guy has gone from recognisable face to one of the UK's most popular comedians, selling out venues across the country.
But what goes on in the...

Can the raucous experience of a live comedy club survive when it's shown at the cinema? Brian Logan investigates a new experiment
Friday night at Cineworld Wandsworth, south London, and people are filing in to see the nail-biting psych-thriller Trance and the carnival of pulchritudinous teen flesh that is Spring Breakers.
Not me. Oh no. I'm here to watch a film about other people watching middle-aged men tell jokes about how daft they look wearing Crocs.
Put like that, Comedy Store: Raw & Uncut sounds like a galaxy far, far away from anything you'd normally see at the movies – and not especially alluring. But that's what they said before Met Live, National Theatre Live and their numerous imitators trounced the doubters and proved that broadcasting theatre and opera to multiplexes worldwide was not only big business, it could also change the way we experience live performance.

A writer on Frankie Boyle's Tramadol Nights has claimed that the show was "a piece of art". Tom Stade told Metro that he enjoyed working on the programme, which attracted criticism for its jokes about Katie Price's disabled son and the late Jade Goody, as well as for including allegedly racist language. Stade said of the show: "That was awesome man, that was a piece of art. I never seen the morality brigade come out so fast. Collaborating with (more)...
