A new series about con artists is coming to Prime Video, but this time it’ll have a small twist. With so many shows focusing on the crimes of men, this one aims to look at women who have been just as conniving. Allison Janney and her producing partner, Chris Henze of Thruline, approached media tycoon Bob Greenblatt to develop a new anthology series based on the novel Confident Women: Swindlers, Grifters, and Shapeshifters of the Feminine Persuasion by Tori Telfer. The novel chronicles many notorious women, and the series will center on one woman’s cons each season. The first is set to look at the crimes of Sante Kimes, who along with her own son, was found responsible for two murders. Greenblatt, a former executive at NBC, WarnerMedia, Showtime and Fox, has a first-look deal at Lionsgate through his new company, The Green Room. The executive was happy...

Bob Greenblatt is partnering with “The West Wing” star Allison Janney and writer Alexa Junge (“Grace and Frankie”) to adapt the book “Confident Women” into an anthology series for Amazon Prime Video.
The project reps the first TV project for Janney, who is attached as a non-writing executive producer alongside her producing partner, Thruline’s Chris Henze. Janney and Henze brought the idea to Greenblatt, the former NBC, Showtime, WarnerMedia and Fox exec who has been busy as of late in amassing a new stable of projects in development.
Written by Tori Telfer and released last year, the book chronicles female con women in a range of different stories over the last several decades.
“I think it’s a really cool way to tell some female-oriented stories, but with a bit of a darker twist,” Greenblatt told Variety. “It’s not ‘Dahmer.’ It’s not about serial killers. But these...

It’s been six years since “Psych” aired its series finale on USA Network after an eight-season run, but the property is hardly out of cases for its central detective duo.
“Even on the pilot, I was saying we’re going to do five seasons and a movie, and as we got past five seasons we had to just start upping our expectations,” said creator Steve Franks during Atx Television Festival’s virtual reunion panel Sunday. “Then we stopped speculating on the seasons and I added it to six movies. So we got eight seasons, six movies; we’re in two. I think if we start speaking it into existence, it’ll start to happen.”
With a loyal fanbase that’s still clamoring for more shenanigans and a creative team whose bonds only grow stronger with time, there’s still ambitious plans to keep following these characters into the future.

“A Quiet Place” producers Brad Fuller and Andrew Form are teaming up with “Psych” duo Steve Franks and Chris Henze on a horror comedy at Amazon.
Deadline has reported that Amazon has put in development for ”Mitchcraft,” an “aspirational horror”(their words) series with a relationship-comedy base, where a small town fire marshal inadvertently harnesses supernatural forces and becomes a witch.
It’s an eclectic concept and won’t shy away from ridiculousness — in Franks’ words. It’s also a series that its creators seemed destined to make, given their pedigrees. Franks and Henze executive-produced “Psych” (the former also created the series), a detective comedy about a young crime consultant who makes a career out of pretending to be a psychic. The series, which premiered in 2006, garnered a dedicated following throughout its eight-season run before concluding in 2014. Exclusive: Amazon has put in development Mitchcraft (working title), a hybrid comedy series from the Psych duo of creator/executive producer Steve Franks and executive producer Chris Henze of Thruline, and the Fully Formed Entertainment duo of Brad Fuller and Andrew Form who are behind such hit horror feature franchises as A Quiet Place, The Purge and Ouija.
Mitchcraft is in “a newly-invented sub-genre: Aspirational Horror” and aims to “make scary fun again,” Franks said.

Westworld‘s Jimmi Simpson meanwhile tweeted out a video in which he steps off a Psych-branded longboard (covet!) to suggest that he will put in another encore, having played the Mr. Yang-obsessed, dearly departed police psychologist Dr.

The “Psych” team is officially coming back for a second movie.
USA Network has officially greenlit a sequel to the 2017 movie, which was itself a follow-up to the 2014 series finale. Production will begin in March in Vancouver. Series stars James Roday, Dulé Hill, Maggie Lawson, Kirsten Nelson, Corbin Bernsen and Tim Omundson will all return.
The team reunites when Santa Barbara Police Chief Carlton Lassiter (Omundson) is ambushed on the job and left for dead. In a Hitchcockian nod, he begins to see impossible happenings around his recovery clinic. Shawn (Roday) and Gus (Hill) return to Lassie’s side in Santa Barbara and are forced to navigate the personal, the professional, and possibly the supernatural. Separated from their new lives in San Francisco, our heroes find themselves unwelcome in their old stomping grounds as they secretly untangle a twisted case without the benefit of the police, their loved ones, or...

This just in: Psych has been around for a very long time.
And as the USA Network hit embarks on Season 8, it's doing something very cool with such a vast resume of guest stars in its rear view mirror.
As teased below by producers Steve Franks and Chris Henze, the series will remake the episode "Cloudy with a Chance of Murder" into "Cloudy with a Chance of Improvement." It will feature a number of familiar faces who have stopped by the comedy in the past... only this time they'll be playing different characters.

Also at Comic-Con:
Corbin Bernsen and Kirsten Nelson talked about their characters and their semi-retirements. James Roday spoke on his next directorial stint.

Psych is a warm and engaging and frequently hilarious show, and having spoken to the cast and crew at Sdcc, I can attest that they are just as much of a blast to talk to as the show is to watch. I got to sit down with James Roday, Dulé Hill, Cary Elwes, Timothy Omundson, Maggie Lawson, Kirsten Nelson, Corbin Bernsen, Steve Franks, Chris Henze, and Kelly Kulchak and dish about the show. Here’s what I learned.
The Psych cast sings around the set a lot, and loved doing Psych: The Musical (which will air in December), and actually singing for the cameras.
Kirsten Nelson: “It was exciting to do! It was a whole lot of fun to go into a recording studio to record the songs and play it back for the crew, who were excited to hear us sing. They hear us singing, goofing around all the time,...

The "Psych" panel at Comic-Con 2013 was nuts, as usual.
Cary Elwes (who is returning as Desperaux in Season 8) hosted the event -- in its fifth year in a row at Comic-Con. Everyone was there for the panel including James Roday, Dule Hill, Timothy Omundson, Maggie Lawson, Corbin Bernsen (who didn't actually get a seat) and Kirsten Nelson, along with EPs Steve Franks,Chris Henze and Kelly Kolchak.
First up, both James Roday and Steve Franks joined Twitter for the panel!
"Do you know how many bunny pictures you're going to get?" -- Maggie Lawson to Timothy Omundson after he said he cries a lot
"This is absolutely embarrassing!" -- Dule Hill
The winner of the vote for the extra "Psych" episode is "Nightmare on State Street."
James Roday and Dule Hill performed an acapella version of a song from "Psych the Musical." The musical looks awesome, by the way. Shawn and Lassie do a tango.

We're so close to San Diego Comic-Con 2013 I can taste it! What does it taste like you ask? Ghirardelli ice cream, of course! There's a Ghirardelli ice cream shop in downtown San Diego that the GeekTyrant crew eats at every night after a long day of awesomeness and work.
Comic-Con has released the full schedule for Thursday, July 18th, and there's a ton of great stuff, including Sherlock, Dexter, Ender's Game, Batman: Arkham Origins, Marvel: House of Ideas, Divergent, The Walking Dead 10th Anniversary Panel, The X-Files 20th Anniversary Panel, and more!
To see the full panel and event line-up, click here. Here are a few of the panels that I thought were noteworthy.

Guess what, ComicMix readers? Convention season is upon us! Hurrah!
“Aw, shucks,” you say. “I can’t make it to any conventions.”
Fear not, faithful friends! I am here to save the day by attending and reporting back for you. And I am psyched about it. Yes, I’ll probably need to hibernate my con exhaustion away afterwards, but man, I love the energy and excitement of a good con. And good thing, too, because this year, I’m planning to attend The North American Discworld Convention; San Diego Comic Con; Dragon*Con; Baltimore Comic Con; the Small Press Expo; New York Comic Con; and Capclave. Whew!
NADWCon and Sdcc are right around the corner, so I’m extra excited about those! Here’s what I’m looking forward to:
The North American Discworld Convention
The NADWCon is taking place in Baltimore, MD from July 5th to 8th, and memberships are still available!

Today’s news isn’t really about doing your civic duty. Rather, in the name of good entertainment, fans of USA network series, Psych are being asked to vote. Before you pull out the markers and start designing James Roday for President signs, let me explain. The vote is for which storyline you’d like to see in upcoming series 8 episodes.
Originally series 8 only had an 8-episode order, as we announced right here on Boomtron. A full season is often filled with as many as 16 installments. The happy news this week is that the USA network has expanded its order. Instead of just 8 shows, season 8 has been bumped up to consist of 10 episodes. After you give a shout, keep reading because you can get involved in the fun.

Having run the creative gauntlet in the first 100 episodes of Psych, during a press set visit in celebration of the show’s 100th episode, creators and executive producers Steve Franks, Kelly Kulchak, and Chris Henze shared the secret to Psych’s success in casting characters and creating a show with a razor-sharp balance between comedy and drama that keeps the fans clamoring for more.
One of the things about Psych is that it’s got such a strong ensemble. Are we going to see some of the other characters mix it up this season?
Steve: We always wish that we could play with the dynamics of the other characters as much as possible. But we always get led back to the dynamics that are always really strong, Shawn and Julie, Shawn and Gus, Lassiter and Juliet. We definitely like to mix it up. One of my favorite thing when I...
