Hull based shoegaze quartet bdrmm return with a new single titled “Mud”. The track arrives hot on the heels of the bands widely lauded second album “I Don’t Know”, which came out earlier this year on Mogwai’s Rock Action label.
The post-shoegaze, dream pop, heavy guitar effects quartet’s latest album arrived in late-June to critical acclaim with the likes of Consequence calling it “one of their most enticing successes yet” and Rolling Stone UK describing it as “a chaotic, thrilling evolution”. The lead single “It’s Just A Bit Of Blood” was also playlisted on BBC Radio 6 Music, and Brooklyn Vegan made the record their Album Of The Week saying that “I Don’t Know” saw them “not only avoid the sophomore slump, but deliver a second album that is miles better their debut.”

You know that feeling when you sense you’ve experienced something already, but there’s no way you could have? It’s a major theme in this week’s This Is Us, which draws parallels both heartwarming and more-than-vaguely troubling between the modern Pearson family and its forebears.

Sometimes, the best of intentions don't always lead to the best movie. Here are 19 films where everything didn't quite go to plan...
As Alan Parker said ‘no one sets out to make a bad film’. Yet in spite of good intentions, sometimes a project doesn't quite go to plan. We're going to look at a bunch of movies here that aren't always well liked, and give a flavour of the problems the beset them.
So, in no particular order, here are twenty of the films that have ever been made, which are considered by at least one sentient being to be bad. That's not the interesting thing about them....
Robin Hood (2010)
Ethan Reiff and Cyrus Voris had written a spec script with a twist on the Robin Hood legend: the Sheriff of Nottingham was the hero, a sort of medieval forensic investigator, and Robin was the bad guy.

Like a nightclub promoted by Stefan on "Saturday Night Live," last night's season six premiere of "The Walking Dead" had everything: A literal parade of thousands and thousands of zombies; Daryl back on his motorcycle; a (somewhat effective) black and white flashback device that made some people actually suspect that their TVs were malfunctioning; Ethan Embry -- just about every millennial's late-'90s crush -- literally getting his face bitten off.
It was, more or less, an embarrassment of riches, though like the 90-minute season five finale, I found this similarly-long installment both overstuffed and underdeveloped. Producers seemed determined to pack every second with action, though the merits of some of said action can be debated. But the aforementioned ridiculously huge horde of walkers was the main attraction, and it didn't disappoint; when the camera panned out from that quarry, and I realized just how vast their ranks were, I actually gasped.

Lilyhammer's 'gangster on the lam in a remote Norwegian town' story is a quirky, comic gem that richly deserves a fourth season...
Lilyhammer’s third season arrived on Netflix last November, bolder, bloodier and sillier than ever. The most recent batch of episodes, boasting a budget bigger than Norway’s Gdp, catapulted viewers from the cold climes of Scandinavia to the tropical slums of Rio de Janeiro and back again, with a few stop-offs in New York along the way. There was murder, intrigue, Islamic terrorism, a dying whale, a mafia cookbook, drug-running, a big-budget Brazilian telenovela, reindeer racing and of course the requisite explosions, gun fights and fist fights that are now a permanent staple of life in the quiet and quaint little town of Lillehammer. There was also a finale that featured one of the more bizarre cliff-hangers in modern television history: a bludgeoned breast-crazed maniac lying...

While there is a likely Oscar-winner, a massive box set from HBO, and some true crowd-pleasers in this week’s What to Watch, it’s a bit of a downer compared to some more recent jam-packed weeks of Blu-ray and streaming greatness. We also couldn’t find an On Demand title this week worth mentioning, although Denis Villeneuve’s “Enemy,” starring Jake Gyllenhaal, hits DirecTV On Demand this Thursday and you can bet we’ll be there to check it out before a March theatrical release. Until then, rent or buy something below.

Last night marked Saturday Night Live hosting gig #13 for John Goodman, who noted that he’d last hosted in 2001 but stopped “because I had to work.” Speaking of having to work, the Inside Llewyn Davis co-star wasn’t the only veteran actor who showed up to promote a new flick: Grudge Match duo Sylvester Stallone and Robert De Niro dropped by to cameo alongside Goodman as the “Three Wise Guys” in a pre-holiday Nativity sketch (Sly & De Niro’s old-guy boxing pic hits theaters on Christmas Day). Unfortunately they lacked the ease Goodman had elsewhere even dressed as a snowflake and a woman. Meanwhile Kenan Thompson got significant screentime in multiple sketches through the night, including a stint as Black Santa as Weekend Update poked fun at Megyn Kelly‘s recent yuletide comments. Watch highlights below: Related: Fox News’ Megyn Kelly Says Jesus/Santa Show Segment Was Humor...

Sequels are awesome, plain and simple. Returning to familiar characters and worlds we love is like covering yourself with a warm blanket, although when a sequel is bad it can be like a blanket covered in potato bugs and lice. Studios love sequels because seven times out of ten they open huge, no matter how good they are.

Alright, let’s forget these late Winter blues! Let’s head to the multiplex and see Dwayne Johnson (still “The Rock” to ‘rasslin’ fans forever) blast the bad guys! Those sleazoids don’t stand a chance against him, he’s invincible, he’s unstoppable, he’s…tearing up? And getting beaten up? This movie is inspired by true events, so he’s playing pretty much a real guy. And what’s Oscar-winner Susan Sarandon doing here? This movie’s full of surprises (the least of which is the fact that this early year release is not a complete dud). Mind you there should be enough destruction to please his audiences. But the big shocker is that it has a message (that’s hammered in with a factoid after the final fade out). Looks like Mr. Johnson is looking to expand his “brand” (and stretch his acting muscles) with his newest effort,...

There may be a slight possibility that standards for movie titles have become more lenient over the years, since we can't really fathom an action movie like this week's "Bullet to the Head" coming out in 1954 with a title like that. No sir.
The Sylvester Stallone vehicle does stick in your head for some reason, so we thought we'd dig in and find the most gruesome, lurid and downright threatening movie titles ever conceived. Remember, the criteria here ain't the violent content of the film itself, just its nastified handle.
15. '8 Million Ways to Die' (1986)
The unlikely combination of star Jeff Bridges, screenwriter Oliver Stone and director Hal Ashby ("Harold and Maude") came up with this neo-noir concoction, which failed to ignite at the box office and ultimately served as Ashby's swan song. The film itself has a pulpy, sub-"Miami Vice" plot about an alcoholic ex-detective drawn into a...

Whenever a movie studio announces plans for another remake, the reaction among fans and pundits is always the same: Hollywood doesn't have any new ideas.
But we like to look on the bright side of things, which is why we're so happy when we hear of a cool remake or reboot. Hey, who needs new ideas when there are already so many great old ideas waiting to be rediscovered?
With that in mind, we've compiled a list of 50 — that's right, 50! — upcoming Hollywood remakes that tickle our fancy. Because if these films were good the first time, you never know, you might just enjoy them even more the second time around.

Before it had even filled out a single supporting role, the upcoming prison break actioner The Tomb was already blowing my mind with its casting, because it managed to become the movie that finally fulfilled my childhood fantasy of having Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger team up as a duo of badasses. The film intrigued further, however, when it cast Jim Caviezel, an actor with some serious chops, as the evil prison warden that Sly and Arnie would be running afoul of. Maybe this movie would have even more to offer than just the chance to watch the two most preeminent ass-kickers of the 80s do their thing in tandem? Well now a big casting update from Variety all but confirms that this one has more than one trick up its sleeve. Four new names have been added to, or are in talks to join the cast, and whether it’s because of talent, notoriety...

We only get a short look at Julianne Moore as Sarah Palin in this first trailer for the upcoming HBO TV movie Game Change — well, no, that's not actually right. We get a lot of looking in at her shapely legs and smartly cropped jackets, but we only get to hear Moore's performance for a moment. (Sly commentary on what many saw to be an emphasis on Palin's looks over her campaigning skills? Or not-so-sly commentary on Julianne Moore's well-established attractiveness?) But don't let the little details stop you from comparing her interpretation to the most well known pseudo-Palin of them all, Tina Fey. Here's the trailer, which also features Ed Harris as John McCain and Woody Harrelson as Steve Schmidt: Here's an SNL skit with Fey as Palin: And, finally, here's a clip of the former Governor herself: I know [...]...

'Rock of Ages'
Release Date: June 1
Starring: Julianne Hough, Diego Boneta, Tom Cruise
The Scoop: One of the most popular and acclaimed Broadway musicals in recent memory, "Rock of Ages" tells the story of a couple of small-town dreamers who get caught up in the big-city spotlight -- and it tells that story using the transformative power of '80s rock. That's enough for us, but if you're somehow not sold, the film version of "Rock of Ages" also features a Who's Who of Hollywood stars, including Tom Cruise, Alec Baldwin, Russell Brand, Paul Giamatti, Bryan Cranston and Catherine Zeta-Jones. You’ve been that person walking out of the theater smiling while the rest of the crowd passing by seem to be throwing their tickets away in disgust. You liked the bad movie. You’re not alone. We’ve all been there at some point, and it’s not a bad thing. Everyone deserves to indulge. Even the most hardened of cinephiles have a few skeleton’s in their closet – acclaimed critics included.
Roger Ebert liked The Zookeeper, A.O. Scott found “an amazing kind of emotional integrity and intensity” in the Twilight franchise, and Richard Corliss wasn’t afraid to say he enjoyed Clash of the Titans. Everyone has standalone indulgences like Zookeeper or Titans. There are hundreds of bad movies filled with just enough nostalgia or fun to keep you coming back for more. The choices become less clear when you start looking for the great guilty pleasure franchises though.

Mere marketing tool, or thumping good read? Here, David praises the greatness of movie novelisations…
They’re the novels film buffs love to read, and collect omnivorously. The books take up at least a single shelf, and their collectors smile, impressed, at the way a multi-million dollar scene sparkling with special effects can be effectively emulated in prose. Or maybe that’s just me.
But seriously: haven’t you ever watched Lethal Weapon and thought, “This should have been a book!” If you ever have, then track down and pick up Joel Norst’s paperback version and see how he can make maverick cop Martin Riggs jumping off a building while clinging to a hysterical civilian just as breathtaking as when Mel Gibson does it onscreen.
Or how about when James Bond free-falls over a cliff in Goldeneye? Check out veteran Bond novelist John Gardner’s take on it. These scenes,...

Among the titles revealed this morning were Morgan Spurlock's The Dotted Line, Jonathan Hock's Unguarded and Mike Tollin's The Real Rocky. The docs will air Tuesdays beginning Sept. 27 and join another new doc-based series, Rise Up, which looks at the impact of renovated sports facilities on four high schools and their communities and begins Sept. 13. As part of it's new doc slate, Espn trotted out former heavyweight punching bag Chuck Wepner -- aka The Bayonne Bleeder -- to meet the media at the Beverly Hilton. Now 72, Wepner was seen to be...

Lidsville -Sid Krofft talked to me over the phone. That’s almost as wild and weird as the shows he created with his brother Marty that dominated the ’70s. Their live action Saturday morning series mixed puppets and people went perfect with the sugar rush from a fresh bowl of Count Chocula. This was like a weird childhood dream as I had so many questions that had puzzled me since childhood. Krofft was eager to give answers.
He was excited about Vivendi Entertainment’s recent release of H.R. Pufnstuf: The Complete Series Collector’s Edition. There’s also a normal H.R. Pufnstuf: The Complete Series. What’s the difference? A cool bobblehead of H.R. Pufnstuf. I’ve had little contact with the bobblehead since my two year-old has turned it into her new best friend. I told Sid Krofft how another generation has embraced the lizard hero of my youth.

No matter who they're supporting, most of the faces in the Twitter-Wood feed discussing elections in the U.S. today just want you to get out and vote. Some expressed stronger recommendations, though, such as Sylvester Stallone, who used "The Manchurian Candidate" to help illustrate his point.

Amanda Bynes in "She's the Man"
Here's the thing about this movie: it's actually not terrible. Only a few days after passing on Anchorman 2, Paramount -- it seems -- has also passed on Zoolander 2, as Ben Stiller noted in a tweet: "Ron Burgundy and Derek Zoolander looking to appear in sequels. Both men destitute, without means or intellect to fund their own comebacks." I have no idea what to think of this: On the one hand, shouldn't we applaud studios for not greenlighting sequels? But on the other hand, the same studio is remaking Footloose and fast-tracking Paranormal Activity 2. (Twitter)

Hollywood insiders are buzzing about "Twilight: New Moon" star Taylor Lautner being cast as "Max Steel" in a superhero movie about a teen recruited by a secret agency after (the usual story) an accident gifts him with super powers.
Many are wondering if the casting of 17-year-old Taylor signals the end of the old fart superhero and the reign of the hot teen heartthrob superhero.
Fact: the majority of superhero film fans who go to the theaters are young. Oh, sure, there are still some old superhero geeks like Kevin Smith (joke, Kev).
But most movie-goers are not baby boomers or even baby boomers' kids. They are teenagers and young twentysomethings who like to see actors their own age. Not their dads or grandpas.
