The HiFi Holiday Festival, hosted by Filipinos Advancing Creative Education (F.A.C.E) in collaboration with other HiFi organizations, took over L.A.’s Historic Filipinotown on Saturday for the second consecutive year.
Held at RideBack Ranch, the event raised toy donations to ship back to less fortunate families in the Philippines while spreading holiday cheer to L.A. locals through live music, complimentary meals and festive photo-ops.
“This is one of our favorite annual community engagement programs we offer to serve those less fortunate during the holiday season,” said Lyle Del Mundo, executive director of F.A.C.E. “It’s an opportunity for some of the many talented Filipinos in entertainment to donate their time and talent to connect, inspire, and this is their reason to celebrate the season.”
The celebration featured a line-up of celebrity meet and greets with special guests like Simu Liu, Patrick Starrr, Alex Wassabi, Paris Belrec, Vincent Rodriguez III,...

Kimee Balmilero, Tess Paras and Jason Rogel are the latest additions to ABC’s Filipino American pilot Josep, starring Jo Koy. They join the pilot as series regulars and will appear opposite previously announced cast members Mia Katigbak, Rory O’Malley and Kaden Alejandro.
Josep, from 20th Television, follows Koy as a recently divorced Filipino American nurse attempting to navigate dating, fatherhood and a very Filipino mother who loves to “help.”
Balmilero plays Geraldine. Wearing hipster glasses and pink highlights, Geri is Jo’s married sister. ABC Family execs have certainly been busy with the renewals and cancellations. The cable channel has renewed Make It or Break It and Switched at Birth, ordered more episodes of The Lying Game, and cancelled The Nine Lives of Chloe King. Now, they've cancelled sitcom State of Georgia as well.
In the TV series formerly titled The Great State of Georgia, Raven Symone stars as aspiring actress Georgia Chamberlain who leaves the south to pursue her dreams in New York City. She's joined by Josephina "Jo" Pye (Majandra Delfino), her timid best friend and a graduate student in physics. Honey Dupree (Loretta Devine) is Georgia's nymphomaniac aunt who offers advice and owns the apartment where they live. Recurring characters are played by Kevin Covais, Hasan Minhaj, and Jason Rogel.
State of Georgia ran for 12 episodes, between late June and mid-August of this year.

One of the biggest surprises of Syfy's campy fun flick "Swamp Shark" was seeing the performance of actor Jason Rogel (Splinterheads), cast as Martin the bus boy in this Louisiana potboiler of ridiculous premise and effects. Rogel joined Kristy Swanson (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) and Db Sweeney (The Event, The Cutting Edge) on a mission to save the people of Gator Fest from being shredded to death by a beastly shark. "Swamp Shark" aired this past Saturday, June 25th at 9pm (Pst) on the SyFy channel. Martin worked in the funky waterside restaurant for the Broussard clan led by Kristy Swanson, and had an unrequited love crush on her baby sister Krystal (Sophie Sinise), who he worked with.

Syfy's "Swamp Shark" is a must-see popcorn Saturday night film. Invite friends over and make margies or s'mores - watch it with a group! You will be greatly entertained by this family-friendly, funny flick that takes a deep water prehistoric shark who has found a new killing ground -The Louisiana Bayou - and actually makes it scarier than the backlot of Merlotte's in "True Blood." Plus, it features Baseball great Wade Boggs (Dep. Stanley), "Buffy The Vampire Slayer" star Kristy Swanson (Rachel Broussard), eternal ass kicker Robert Davi (Sheriff Watson), character actor great D.B. Sweeney (Charlie) and a very funny young actor named Jason Rogel (Martin). Rogel's bus boy Martin has some hilarious scenes involving chum, processing...

I just watched this clip three times. I'm still not sure what's going on. My brain definitely melted a bit though, so that's good.
"Splinterheads" hits DVD today, an improv-heavy indie comedy which follows Justin Frost (Thomas Middletitch) as he falls in with the wacky folks who work for a traveling carnival. Justin joins in on the madness when he falls for one of the crew, and an offbeat brand of hilarity ensues.
The below clip actually comes from the DVD's bonus features, a video featuring Middletitch and fellow star Jason Rogel. The duo take some time out to let us all know about the magical Wayne Chng and his fabulous landscaping services, capable of fending off snakes, bears and hawks.
Like I said... melty brain. Enjoy!

Splinterheads
Directed by: Brant Sersen
Cast: Thomas Middleditch, Rachel Taylor, Lea Thompson, Jason Rogel
Running Time: 1hr 34 min
Rating: R
Release Date: November 13, 2009
Plot: Justin (Middleditch) is an average guy living an average life when his world is shaken up by the arrival of a traveling carnival and a bewitching splinterhead (Taylor). I’d call her a carnie, but the movie is very specific about the difference between the two.
Who’S It For? If you liked Napolean Dynamite, you’ll love Splinterheads. It isn’t that the films are similar in plot, but they are both consummate charmers.
Expectations: None. I had no idea. Bayer sent Splinterheads as a screener to my home, and usually he sends me screeners like, Toast and the Civil War: Rye So Sad?, so I did assume it would drag in parts.

Austin is one of three cities selected along with Portland, Oregon, and New York City to run Splinterheads’ theatrical release so far. Director Brant Sersen, whose previous film Blackballed: The Bobby Dukes Story won the Audience Award at the 2004 SXSW Film Festival, will be in attendance at the November 13th opening; with leading man Thomas Middleditch possibly joining as well. Splinterheads premiered at the 2009 SXSW Film Festival. If you were in Austin this past weekend, you may have also seen the Splinterheads dunking booth at Fun Fun Fun Fest. Read the review by clicking here. Splinterheads introduces rapidly-rising improvisational comic Thomas Middleditch as Justin Frost, a twenty-something slacker whose “thing” is that he has no “thing” at all. Director: Brant Sersen Writer(s): Brant Sersen Starring: Thomas Middleditch, Rachael Taylor, Lea Thompson, Christopher McDonald, Dean Winters, Frankie Faison, Jason Rogel Justin Frost (Thomas Middleditch) is a quirky, hyper and lanky twenty-something slacker. He works for his rotund best friend Wayne’s (Jason Rogel) landscaping business and still lives in his hometown with his mother (Lea Thompson from Back to the Future). Other than karate, he doesn’t seem to have any hobbies or skills or ambitions; as Justin proclaims, his “thing” is that he has no “thing” at all. Justin is preyed upon by a sexy con-artist named Galaxy (Rachael Taylor from Transformers). Galaxy is a carnie, uh-hum splinterhead, with a traveling carnival that has come to Justin’s home town. Since there’s little else to do, Justin and Wayne wind up spending a lot of time hanging around the carnival, thus bumping into Galaxy often.
