While Taylor Momsen is best known for her role in “Gossip Girl”, and her musical sideline as lead singer of rock band The Pretty Reckless, one of her earlier roles led to more mockery than fame.
Appearing on Wednesday’s edition of SiriusXM’s “Podcrushed” podcast — co-hosted by her fellow “Gossip Girl” alum Penn Badgley — Momsen looked back on her days as a child actor, when she played Cindy Lou Who in the Jim Carrey-starring live-action remake of “How the Grinch Saved Christmas”.

“Making friends was always challenging for me,” Momsen explained, as reported by People.
“First of all, ‘The Grinch’ changed my life in a multitude of ways — one of them being I was made fun of relentlessly,” she continued.

Jerry Allison, the groundbreaking early rock & roll and rockabilly drummer who, as a member of The Crickets with Buddy Holly, co-wrote landmark songs such as “Peggy Sue” and “That’ll Be the Day,” has died. He was 82.
According to a post on the Buddy Holly Facebook page, “Ji was a musician ahead of his time, and undoubtedly his energy, ideas and exceptional skill contributed to both The Crickets, and rock n’ roll itself, becoming such a success.”
Allison, one critic wrote, “knew how to get an incredible variety of percussion sounds, given the limitations of equipment in the era, sometimes working with as little as one snare, a cymbal, and a bass drum (if that).”
His work on “Peggy Sue,” for instance, involves the use of a paradiddle, a drumming rudiment that combines single strokes with precisely placed double strokes. He also contributed the title; “Peggy Sue” was originally titled “Cindy Lou,...

The Academy Museum’s Regeneration: Black Cinema 1898-1971 is not to be missed. Not only does the exhibition celebrate Black representation in film, it serves as an important reminder and lesson about the contributions of Black filmmakers and stars to the world of cinema.
Opening Aug. 21, seven galleries make up the exhibit exploring Oscar Micheaux’s low-budget dramas in the silent-film era to the works of Melvin Van Peebles.
The exhibition also introduces audiences to stars largely unknown to mainstream moviegoers — Ralph Cooper, Clarence Brooks and Francine Everett — alongside iconic screen legends Paul Robeson, Josephine Baker, Harry Belafonte, Sidney Poitier and Lena Horne.
Poiter’s Oscar for “Lillies of the Field” is just one of the many artifacts on display in this historic exhibition. Alongside the award are tap shoes worn by the Nicholas Brothers and one of Louis Armstrong’s trumpets.

The TikTok star who saved Christmas. We're, of course, talking about actor and singer Tyler Warwick, who has been recreating The Grinch scene-by-scene on TikTok and Instagram. As many holiday plans have been stalled due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, we've been turning to social media for content that will get us in the Christmas spirit. Yet, we had no idea that we'd stumble across a comedic gem in the Reels section on Instagram. We first came upon Tyler's work during a late-night scrolling session on the picture sharing site. In the first video we experienced, we watched Tyler reenact Cindy Lou Who's "Where Are You Christmas?" scene from 2000's How the Grinch Stole...

With Tuesday’s numbers included, Illumination and Universal Pictures’ The Grinch steered the sleigh across the half-billion mark worldwide. The split is $270M domestic and $231M at the international box office for $501M global. This is the 6th title from the folks at Chris Meledandri’s animation powerhouse to reach $500M.
Domestically known as Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch, the Benedict Cumberbatch-voiced update on the Christmas classic opened No. 1 with $67.6M in November. That gave Illumination its 7th No. 1 bow with the movie going on to become the 6th highest-grossing title of 2018 and the 2nd biggest animated film of the year in North America.
Overseas, where Dr Seuss is not well-known outside the English-speaking markets and Germany, the movie was titled simply The Grinch and has remained in the Top 10 for nine consecutive weeks. It opened No. 1 in 30 territories, including the UK, France, Australia, Spain, Mexico, Norway, India, Thailand, Vietnam,...

But if you’re still searching for it then think about this, she’s the girl that played Cindy Lou Who in How the Grinch Stole Christmas. “You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch,” but you’re a darn good dancer, Ms. Greenblatt. “Avengers: Infinity War” actress Ariana Greenblatt and her fellow “Dancing with the Stars: Juniors” finalists performed Christmas-themed routines for their freestyle dances during the season finale. Greenblatt portrayed Cindy Lou Who while her pro partner Artyon Celestine was the title character in their Dr. Seuss inspired number. Watch it above.
Greenblatt was hoping a former “DWTS” contestant would be her good luck charm: this version of “Mr. Grinch” was performed by violinist Lindsey Stirling featuring Sabrina Carpenter. Stirling was the runner-up in season 25 of the grownup series, behind Mirror Ball champion (and “Juniors” co-host) Jordan Fisher. Greenblatt’s resulting routine was full of strong choreographic content, storytelling and a couple of impressive lifts. And the young actress, as always, has a knack for getting into character.

There was a lot on the docket for the one-hour season finale of “Dancing with the Stars: Juniors.” There were four finalists since no one was eliminated during the Semi-Finals, and they all performed two routines on the final night of the competition: a repeat of their favorite dance of the season (this time joined by their adult mentors) and then a holiday-themed freestyle. Then the judges’ scores and studio audience votes from both the Semi-Finals and the Finals were combined to pick a winner. So was it Miles Brown, Sky Brown, Ariana Greenblatt or Mackenzie Ziegler?

There are few things Hollywood loves more than a good revival. A familiar brand with a built-in fan base? Sold!
Even so, bringing back a recognizable property comes with risks. That’s a lesson illustrated last weekend at the box office. It was a tale of two reboots. Illumination and Universal’s “The Grinch,” the third adaptation of the classic Dr. Seuss Christmas tale, opened with a massive $66 million, but “The Girl in the Spider’s Web,” Sony’s sorta sequel to “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo,” faltered with an anemic $8 million.
Of course, it wasn’t exactly a battle of equals. One movie centers on a beloved character with a 60-year history, written by one of the most iconic and prolific children’s book authors. That kind of pedigree creates a prime opportunity for a studio hoping to cash in on a little nostalgia among families (especially around...

Everyone loves the Grinch, right? Dr. Seuss’ 1957 children’s book How the Grinch Stole Christmas, famously adapted into a 1966 animated film, is a stone cold holiday classic. Even the 2000 live-action adaptation starring Jim Carrey as the green grouch has aged surprisingly well, and is a strikingly strange and ambitious Christmas movie. But, we’ve had 17 Grinchless years since, so Universal has decided to remedy that with The Grinch.
Apart from the title character being voiced by Benedict Cumberbatch, we don’t really know too much about what the studio has in store for us here. It was originally set to release on November 10th 2017, but has been shunted back to November 9th 2018. No reason has been given, but we'd wager it just wouldn't be ready in time.
Benedict Cumberbatch, who showed us just how irredeemably evil he can sound as the voice of Smaug in The Hobbit trilogy, will voice the eponymous green grouch who is bent on making Christmas vanish by stealing every last candy cane. Pete Candeland and Yarrow Cheney will co-direct, with Michael LeSieur adapting the screenplay, Audrey Geisel (the wife of the late Dr Seuss) and Chris Renaud executive producing, and Chris Meledandri,...

Benedict Cumberbatch and his silky, sinister voice born for "it was a dark and stormy night..." tales (and greedy dragons) is now going to voice the Grinch.
Illumination, the studio that made "Despicable Me" and "Minions," made the announcement at CinemaCon. Cumberbatch will voice the Dr. Seuss character in a movie simply titled "The Grinch." (Sorry, Cindy Lou Who, you'll have to wait for your own standalone movie.) Why Cumby? Well, it's probably obvious, but producer Chris Meledandri said he has a voice that exudes "comedic wickedness while embodying vulnerability."
It sounds like it's early days for "The Grinch," but it will be adapted for the screen by writer Michael LeSieur and directed by Pete Candeland and Yarrow Cheney. According to Entertainment Weekly, the current release date is November 10, 2017.
You'll remember that the Grinch of the 1966 Chuck Jones animated TV short "Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas!" was voiced by Boris Karloff,...

For a possibly dead guy, Charles Esten looks pretty good.
The Nashville star is standing before a small crowd, guitar slung across his chest, at The Southwest Porch in New York’s Bryant Park a few days before the ABC series’ Season 4 premiere.
Esten — along with Nashville musical contributors/Bluebird Café regulars Kim Richey and Striking Matches — are putting on a free, al fresco concert for the after-work crowd. He rises from his stool and steps to the mic.

Kringle lives! (Almost always.)
Let's face it everybody, we live in a world where our childhood is constantly being ruined, we can't watch The Interview on Christmas (well, most of us can't), and there probably really Isn't a jolly old man who brings presents to the whole world one night a year like all the Christmas specials promised. What a weird, dumb world.
Alright... that's a little harsh, and we do have a lot to be thankful for this holiday season (like adorable kids with British accents gushing over Princess Leia).
Still though, holiday TV shows and movies totally have us beat when it comes to making St. Nick real. This is the story of why that is, as told by the ghosts of Christmas Present, Past, and Future. If you're afraid of ghosts, sorry, but we can't even help you there.

I wish Gilbert Gottfried, who voiced Otev last night in "Big Brother's" traditional Pov challenge centered around the fictional boss, had really ripped into the houseguests and said in his trademark screech, "What an annoying bunch of houseguests this year! What horrible voices! For Christ's sake! Morons." Because they are annoying this year. Frankly, with Jocasta out of the house for now, we're really missing a core type of personality in the game: a happy person. Yeah, Cody is sort of affable. Christine seems friendly, and I loved her Hoh blog this week. Donny is part possum, and possums always seem satisfied. But Jocasta truly beamed. She was never dogged by being on the block, and she usually responded to the threat of elimination by dialing herself up on a fake phone and throwing down an incoherent one-liner about God. Oh, how I miss it. Rumor is God does too.

The Lunchbox
Directed by: Ritesh Batra
Cast: Irrfan Khan, Nimrat Kaur, Nawazuddin Siddiqui
Running Time: 1 hr 44 mins
Rating: PG
Release Date: March 7, 2014 (Chicago)
Plot: A mistake in a world famous lunch delivery system unites a lonely worker named Saajan (Khan) and an unappreciated housewife named Ila (Kaur).
Who’S It For? Love for Indian food is not necessary.
Overall
Khan, who may be remembered as the adult version of Life of Pi’s lead character, presents a man in The Lunchbox who is of a broken heart and an empty stomach. As time as has passed after a personal tragedy, he has become very vulnerable in age. Stubbornly stoic on the outside, he shows a soul that has given up and accepted life as a cycle.
The broken heart of Khan’s character finds a nice match with the housewife played by Ila. She is knowingly constructed to be a stereotype,...

There's something kind of crazy about Jessica Alba and her brothers outside wear. It's not a Style 180 or a total celeb hot mess! They're more like colorful characters from our childhood books of yore. A bit of Thing 1, a smidge of Cindy Lou Who and something like the Lore...ax. We give up on the rhyme (and are now more impressed with the Green Eggs and Ham master than ever!), but we're sticking to the observation: the Sin City star and her sibling look like chorus kids from Seussical, the musical! The real "problem" is that crazy striped coat, which only looks more cartoon-like because of the matching robin's egg pants. It's just the decision a wardrobe design for a children's...

Warning: The clip contains some extremely brief nudity and sexual content.Taylor has definitely come a long way since playing the oh-so-innocent Cindy Lou Who in "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" back in 2000. And while she's known for some of her crazier on-stage antics and revealing getups, Momsen doesn't think she's doing anything that "controversial." "I don't see myself as controversial," she recently told The Huffington Post. "If other people see...
