You can bet that Sky Atlantic and Peacock is doing everything possible for ‘The Day of the Jackal’ to return as quickly as possible after the show became the best new series launched by the network this year.
Let’s just say that the show drew a massive fanbase and Sky Atlantic wants to keep feeding that fanbase. Shortly after Eddie Redmayne’s confirmation that he will be returning as the Jackal, aka the world’s most professional and elusive sniper, we’ve received more good news.
‘The Day Of The Jackal’ Season 2 To Continue the “Twist” At the End Of Season 1
You know that the Jackal does not like loose ends, and so, since the first season ended on a very shaky ground, Eddie Redmayne has announced that he will be returning for the second season.

The Walking Dead may have ended two years ago, but the franchise endures thanks to the comics, streaming, and the numerous spin-offs that continue to air and tell the stories of some of the most popular surviving characters. Indeed, while many characters survived right through to the end and continue to be central to The Walking Dead universe, some characters met their ends before the post-apocalyptic series concluded. Many of them died way sooner than others.
One character who was introduced late in the series is Magna (Nadia Hilker). But even some of the most dedicated The Walking Dead fans don’t recall whether she made it all the way to the end or not.

Eddie Redmayne's spy thriller with an 84% Rotten Tomatoes score has received a season 2 renewal. Soon after, he starred as Stephen Hawking in The Theory of Everything and won an Academy Award for Best Actor. The following year, he played a transgender artist in The Danish Girl and earned a second nomination in the same category.
Since his Oscar win and nomination, Redmayne has been best known for playing Newt Scamander in the Fantastic Beasts movies. Meanwhile, he starred in Aaron Sorkin's The Trial of the Chicago 7 and The Good Nurse, both for Netflix. The Day of the Jackal will see more days as The Hollywood Reporter reveals that Peacock has renewed the thriller for another season. Our Alex Maidy enjoyed the show as he said in his review, “This grounded, realistic thriller takes time to develop the protagonist and antagonist while leaving audiences wondering which side they trust and whether they should or should not. This is not a clean-cut espionage story or even an action-oriented tale. The Day of the Jackal is a worthy modernization of the classic novel and delivers two of the year’s better performances on film or the small screen.”
According to THR, “The series drew 3 million viewers in its first week on [U.K. broadcast] Sky Atlantic, the best series debut there in two years. On Peacock, the show ranked among the top five original streaming series in the U.S. for its opening weekend, based on preliminary Nielsen data.

The Peacock and Sky dramatic series “The Day of the Jackal” was renewed for a second season, the streamer and broadcaster announced Thursday.
The show’s success was “unusually strong” Carnival Films CEO Gareth Neame told TheWrap this month. The series is part of Neame’s strategic plan that includes launching series that are “expressly British but will have global appeal.” The formula worked when he sold “Downton Abbey” to NBCUniversal in 2008, though he admitted he “could not have anticipated” how successful that series would ultimately become.
Sky and Peacock announced the series was in production in 2023. Eddie Redmayne produced and starred in the first season. The show is based on the Frederick Forsyth thriller and subsequent award-winning 1973 film adaptation of the same name.

The Day of the Jackal is heating up after an extremely close call at the end of episode 5. We've come a long way since episode 1 when the Jackal had everything under control. The Jackal (Eddie Redmayne) killed Norman Stoke (Richard Dormer) while he was being tortured and interrogated and escaped Bianca (Lashana Lynch) and MI6.
In The Day of the Jackal episode 6, the Jackal finds shelter in a barn, but when he wakes, he’s knocked unconscious by the owner of the property. He’s tied up when he wakes up. The owner, Attila, who doesn’t speak English tries to send him on his way, but then he finds the Jackal’s gun and he drags him into his home to speak to someone and translate what the Jackal is saying.
The Jackal offers to pay the man holding him to let him go, but the other men want their cut.

Blasting its way to Peacock on November 14, 2024, The Day of the Jackal is a violent TV crime thriller following The Jackal (played by Eddie Redmayne), an ice-cold assassin known for accepting the most dangerous assignments for large sums of money. Redmayne follows Edward Fox and Bruce Willis in portraying the titular killer-for-hire. However, thanks to the long-form narrative, he is given much more leeway to craft the character in conjunction with the Frederick Forsyth novel.
Despite two attempts to adapt Frederick Forsyth's novel, one in 1973 and another in 1997, the 380-page tome covers too much to adapt as a two-hour movie. As such, the 10-episode TV adaptation is a perfect amount of time to develop the character, faithfully adapt the most significant plot points in the novel, and give fans the full experience that Forsyth conceived when it was published in 1971. Here's why The Day of the Jackal works best as a TV show.

The mountain lion that menaced Kim Bauer in the first season of Fox’s 24 was a feature, not a bug.
That ferocious feline, which probably still haunts Elisha Cuthbert’s dreams, was a proof of concept for how that boundary-breaking series could to extend its high-wire premise across 24 hours per season: Not everything could be an A-story or a B-story, but in Jack Bauer’s world, even the filler was fraught with tension.
Or at least it theoretically was. As even the most passionate fans will tell you, the detours were occasionally thrilling, occasionally ludicrously entertaining and sometimes just plain awful. But they served the purpose of elongating the excitement, and with 24, elongation was everything. Whatever pleasures the subsequent telefilm or two 12-part seasons provided, they made clear that a condensed 24 might be many things, but it wasn’t 24.

Lashana Lynch and Eddie Redmayne make a compelling pair as the cat and mouse in The Day of the Jackal, the new TV show updating the novel by Frederick Forsyth and the 1973 movie. Redmayne plays the Jackal, the highly skilled assassin, with Lynch as an MI6 agent hot on his trail. It's hard to argue that there will always be a place for a well-crafted spy thriller on television, and while The Day of the Jackal wouldn't have had any trouble finding its audience, it pushes itself regardless. The series fulfills a niche that viewers have been waiting for.

Fantastic Beasts star Eddie Redmayne is no stranger to altering his appearance, but his most recent role required such heavy prosthetics that even Redmayne struggled to stay in character. A meticulous assassin in a miniseries remake of the 1973 political thriller The Day of the Jackal, the first episode finds Redmayne buried beneath several layers of rubber and foam, while his character infiltrates a target's headquarters disguised as an elderly German cleaner.
Thankfully, Redmayne only needed to don the intense disguise for one scene but his description of the transformation seems torturous at best. In order to become a convincingly old man, Redmayne had to endure four hours of hair and makeup before using a foam suit to increase his body mass. To make matters worse, the scene was shot in a studio with no air-conditioning, on a nightmarishly hot, Hungarian day. "My overwhelming memory of those days was Richard coming...
