The Rookie has offered its fair share of twists and turns this season as regards its most beloved characters. Recent events have seen Chenford set on the pathway to reconciliation, which is exciting for Lucy Chen (Melissa O'Neil) and Tim Bradford (Eric Winter). But while one couple might see their wishes come true, another will have theirs dashed on the rocks. Bailey Nune (Jenna Dewan) and her husband, John Nolan (Nathan Fillion), have enjoyed a beautiful romance, and part of their journey has centered around expanding their family. With Bailey deciding against IVF in Season 6, adoption became the next likely option. However, those hopes might never be fully realized.
In The Rookie Season 7, Episode 13, "Three Billboards," the couple set their adoption plans in motion, as they decided to meet a social worker and turn in an application. It is a process that ends in denial, as the social worker admits...

The seventh season of the police procedural drama, The Rookie, is edging ever closer to its season finale. In the season finale of Season 6, fans of the beloved couple, Lucy Chen (Melissa O'Neil) and Tim Bradford (Eric Winter), were somewhat shocked when Tim broke things off. Like his lies, no one sees Seth Ridley (Patrick Keleher) coming when he returns to Mid-Wilshire in The Rookie Season 7, Episode 16, "The Return." [Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for The Rookie Season 7 Episode 15 “A Deadly Secret.”] The Rookie has fun with its latest documentary-style episode — and it’s one that brings a key revelation for exes Tim (Eric Winter) and Lucy (Melissa O’Neil) as well as may have just set up a storyline for Season 8. The LAPD investigates when Nolan’s (Nathan Fillion) son’s ex, Abigail (Madeline Coghlan), goes missing, and it leads them to the abandoned ward of Westview. There, Tim and Lucy encounter a kind of truth serum that leads to a few confessions, including his most embarrassing memory and the fact that she’s already forgiven him for their breakup — and apparently a conversation about potential baby names. When news of the chemicals that poisoned the ward reaches serial killer Glasser (Seth Gabel) in prison, he even starts pondering a new defense. Below, showrunner Alexi Hawley (who guest stars as the documentary’s interviewer) talks...

With only a few episodes remaining in Season 7, The Rookie just got a major update. Deadline reports that Deric Augustine, who made his debut as Miles Penn in the series earlier this year, has been upped to a series regular. Penn is one of this season’s rookies, even though he’s a transfer from Texas with several years of experience as a police officer. The most recent episode of The Rookie saw anti-LAPD billboards emerge across the city. As the team searches for who’s responsible, a car bombing prompts another investigation, and tonight’s episode will follow documentary filmmakers interviewing the LAPD on a complicated missing person case connected to John (Nathan Fillion). The Rookie will conclude with its season finale in May after 18 episodes.

Nolan (Nathan Fillion) and Bailey's (Jenna Dewan) quest to expand their family through adoption might not have the happy ending they or the viewers expected. Following various meetings with social services in The Rookie Season 7, the couple learned that they were not suitable candidates for adoption. Their dangerous lives were not conducive to adopting a child, the social worker told them. The Rookie's showrunner, Alexi Hawley, confirmed to Screen Rant that the show was done with the arc. "I think it has [come to an end]. I think that's a road, sadly, with a lot of low points for them. But I think that's also a reality for lots of people. The part, [especially], where they couldn't have a kid biologically was very recognizable," he said. While Bailey and Nolan have dangerous lives, it doesn't apply to every first responder, something Hawley clarified, saying:

The Rookieshowrunner Alexi Hawley promises the return of a fan-favorite character in Season 8.
Speaking to TVLine, Hawley would not answer the question of how many episodes the upcoming eighth season of The Rookie would be. However, Hawley did note that the series would likely be as long as if not longer than Season 7, which came in at 18 episodes total. Flula Borg's "Skip Tracer Randy comes back to us, I think it’s [Episode] 17, in a really fun storyline," Hawley said, tacitly admitting that Season 8 will run at least close to the same number of episodes as Season 7.
Created by Hawley, The Rookie premiered on ABC in 2018 to rave reviews from critics and audiences alike. For the past seven years, the series has followed Nathan Fillion's John Nolan, a member of the LAPD who joined the force relatively late in life after being swept up in a bank robbery as a civilian.

ABC's The Rookie has, across its seven seasons, proven to be a successful venture for the network. The show harbored visions of expanding the franchise, first airing a two-episode backdoor pilot for The Rookie: Feds during The Rookie Season 4, and by September 2022, the spin-off officially premiered. While the original series follows Nathan Fillion's John Nolan, the spin-off stars Niecy Nash as Simone Clark, a guidance counselor who becomes the oldest trainee in the FBI Academy. While the show enjoyed decent ratings, the show was canceled by ABC after the first season. So, might we be seeing more of the spin-off's stars in the flagship series?

ABC's The Rookie just delivered one of the most shocking episodes of Season 7 thus far, complete with a major death that brings an ongoing storyline to a close and an emotional case for Celina (Lisseth Chavez) revolving around her dead sister. In the middle of it all, however, was a sequence inspired heavily by a classic thriller, the latest in the show's trend of paying homage to beloved films. During a larger discussion with Collider'sTherese Lacson about Episode 14, titled "Mad About Murder," showrunner Alexi Hawley broke down how the series honored 1991's The Silence of the Lambs with Celina's search for a missing pregnant woman named Aria (Julia Rose). He also discussed his mindset behind organically weaving references to movies into the world of John Nolan (Nathan Fillion) and his team.
Season 7, Episode 14 sees Celina racing to stop a true-crime podcaster who is covering the abduction and murder of her sister as her latest case.

The Rookie Season 7, Episode 14, "Mad About Murder," introduced a new storyline for Tim Bradford (Eric Winter). A hacker sent him a message, which spawned an investigation into the dark web, uncovering a killing spree in the city. However, the show did not close the arc properly since the hacker was never caught. Showrunner Alexi Hawley told Screen Rant that leaving the arc open is intentional, since they might need it in the future. "I think that's one of those breadcrumbs that, when the time is right, we'll bring back around. I love planting those seeds, and finding actors who come in to do a part [where] you're like, 'Oh God, we can't lose them.' Many of our great characters over the years were [found that way,]," he said, teasing a significant arc once the mysterious role was cast. One of the biggest traditions on The Rookie is documentary-themed episodes. With Season 6 being short, the show skipped that tradition. In Season 7, we pick it up as Abigail Tierney (Madeleine Coghlan) goes missing while investigating the hospital that has delivered several serial killers in the last few episodes. "Documentary filmmakers interview the LAPD on a complicated missing person’s case connected to John (Nathan Fillion)," reads the logline for The Rookie Season 7, Episode 15, "A Deadly Secret." It's worth remembering that Abigail is Henry Nolan's (Zayne Emory) wife, and Henry is John's son. Therefore, this case hits home for Nolan since she is family.
The documentary-style episodes typically involve several interviewees being filmed on camera as the filmmakers seek firsthand accounts about the events that transpired. In this instance, Abigail was reported missing six months prior. She had also been working on a documentary that sought to answer some tough questions.

It's been a fun-filled, action-packed seventh season of the police procedural drama The Rookie, following the "oldest" new cop, Nathan Fillion's John Nolan. The Fillon-led series has already been renewed for an eighth season following yet another season wherein its popularity has only grown. While it's exciting news that the show will return to ABC, Season 7 still needs to wrap up its storylines before audiences can begin to turn their minds far into the future. One of the storylines that one would need to keep an eye on now and into the future is the will-they-won't-they dynamic between Tim Bradford (Eric Winter) and Lucy Chen (Melissa O'Neil), aka Chenford. Their relationship is one that a co-star seems to enjoy a lot.

ABC is renewing four dramas and one comedy series, Variety has learned.
The Disney-owned broadcaster has picked up new seasons of “9-1-1,” “Grey’s Anatomy,” “The Rookie,” and “Will Trent” as well as “Shifting Gears.” The renewals will bring “9-1-1” to Season 9, “Grey’s Anatomy” to Season 22, “The Rookie” to Season 8, “Shifting Gears” to Season 2, and “Will Trent” to Season 4.
ABC had previously announced renewals for both “High Potential” and the hit comedy “Abbott Elementary.” That means that the only current ABC show still awaiting word on a renewal is “Doctor Odyssey.” ABC has opted not to order any pilots this season, but did order the “9-1-1” spinoff “9-1-1: Nashville” straight-to-series, with Chris O’Donnell set for a lead role.
Of today’s renewals, only “Shifting Gears” was seen as a toss up for a new season. The Tim Allen-Kat Dennings multi-cam suffered a noticeable drop off in the ratings since its January debut.

Seth Ridley's (Patrick Keleher) dismissal from the LAPD came as swift and easy as his ability to lie. Lucy's (Melissa O'Neil) boot, who joined The Rookie in Season 7, had made a habit of lying to get himself out of trouble, and the final straw was when he lied that his cancer was back. The show has not shared an update about what he's up to or if he plans on changing, but according to new revelations by series star Richard T. Jones, viewers should not hold their breath. "That story is done at this point," the actor told TV Line, communicating a message that the show's publicity team corroborated. Ridley's departure does not leave a huge hole in the show, but it might affect another character, Tamara.
The Rookie added two new rookies in Season 7 as Aaron Thorsen (Tru Valentino) went to another division while Celina Juarez (Lisseth Chavez) was set to graduate.

The Rookie Season 7 has thrown around its fair share of curveballs, and it does not seem intent on slowing down as we head towards the series finale.
