DarkGame, the latest thriller about dark doings on the Dark Web, opens with the masked figure known as The Presenter overseeing the murder of a bound woman in a manner chosen by the highest bidder. By the way, he chooses a chainsaw as the instrument of her demise. That’s followed by Detectives Ben Jacobs and Cathy Burnette rescuing two missing children from traffickers.
Ben has barely gotten home to his pregnant wife however when they’re called back into the station. The woman we saw killed in the opening scene had vanished without a trace a couple of weeks earlier. The footage is the only clue they have as to who is responsible, but the people behind it know how to cover their tracks.

We spoke to Ed Westwick to mark the release of his new thriller Dark Game. Speaking about the themes of the film, and his process getting into the role, we also discussed another new project of his entitled Deep Fear, which is available on Netflix. Naturally while we did speak about his recent and upcoming projects, we couldn’t help but look back and talk to the English actor about Gossip Girl and the continuing legacy of the show. While some actors can have an aversion to a popular role and the fandom comes with it, Westwick is very receptive to the ongoing support, as he talks about what it means to him on a personal level to be so wedded to a show that has such a loyal fan-base.

Depp is at the festival with Maïwenn’s Cannes-opener “Jeanne du Barry,” which was funded by the Red Sea Film Foundation. Maïwenn also made the trek to Jeddah. Depp’s relationship with the foundation now continues with his directorial effort “Modi,” a biopic about Italian painter and sculptor Amedeo Modigliani also backed by the fund. The actor is scheduled to deliver an onstage conversation in the coming days.

Will Smith and Johnny Depp brought some A-list firepower to the opening night of the third edition of the Red Sea International Film Festival in Saudi Arabia.
Smith was mobbed by selfie hunters as he entered the vast and glitzy Ritz Carlton hotel in the city of Jeddah on Thursday night, dutifully posing for as many as he could (Depp chose to arrive later to less fanfare).
Baz Luhrmann, who heads the festival jury, also caused a stir on the red carpet, while other notable guests included Sharon Stone, making her second appearance at the fest after attending in 2022; Diane Kruger; Sofia Vergara; Bollywood star Ranveer Singh; Ed Westwick; and many local Saudi names.
Iraqi director Yasir Al Yasiri’s Hwjn, a jinn fantasy romance set in modern-day Jeddah, opened the festival, becoming the first local Saudi Arabian movie to be given the honor of raising the curtain.

Earlier this month, actor Ed Westwick — most famous for portraying the Donald Trump Jr.-esque real estate scion Chuck Bass on Gossip Girl — went live on TikTok and revealed to his followers that he’s keen to do a Gossip Girl “reboot” with the original cast, or a “spinoff show.”
The allegations notwithstanding, Gossip Girl creators Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage tell Rolling Stone that fans shouldn’t get their hopes up about a reboot with the original cast anytime soon.
In an interview to promote the upcoming book Welcome to the O.

Gravitas Ventures gave the shark thriller Deep Fear a VOD release in the United States and Canada on November 3rd, and the movie also received a release through the Netflix streaming service in Brazil earlier this month. If you haven’t taken a look at Deep Fear yet, we have a clip to share with you that might get you to give it a chance. The clip can be seen in the embed above and features a shark burying its face in a load of cocaine, bringing to mind this year’s earlier “nature run amok” release Cocaine Bear.
Directed by Marcus Adams (Long Time Dead) from a screenplay written by Robert Capelli Jr. (The Rules (for Men)) and Sophia Eptamentis (Invincible Summer), Deep Fear centers on Naomi, a yachtswoman embarking on a solo trip in the Caribbean. Her last stop is Grenada, where she plans to rendezvous with her boyfriend Jackson,...

U.K. production studio Content Kings is expanding to the Middle East with a new office in Dubai, Variety can confirm.
Darren Arturi has been tapped to lead the office, joining the company as director of Middle East and Asia operations.
“We are eager to embrace the rich cultural tapestry and untapped potential of this region,” said Arturi. “Our aim is to create content that not only entertains but also resonates with the local audience, and we are eager to collaborate with the creative talent in the Middle East to bring our vision to life.”
With a plan to bring high-quality storytelling and entertainment to the United Arab Emirates’ content landscape, Content Kings are already working on their first project in the region. The show, which goes into production in Saudi Arabia in Jan. 2024, will see contestants compete for a “massive cash prize.”

Like Jaws before it, the release of Cocaine Bear earlier this year has resulted in a slew of natural horror films, many of which are using the same conceit of an animal driven to extreme behavior by the consumption of narcotics. Projects already in production include Crackcoon and the delayed Methgator, created by The Asylum. You can probably guess their plots.
One animal-on-drugs movie that has already seen release is Cocaine Shark. Whereas that film treated its subject matter with an unabashedly schlocky approach, though, the more recent Deep Fear takes a similar gimmick and plays it with a straighter face. It could be the perfect post-summer movie for anyone who wants a fun cinematic trend taken a little more seriously.
Set on a yacht sailing around Grenada, Deep Fear centers on a woman named Naomi (Mãdãlina Ghenea) who, during a sailing trip to see her boyfriend (Ed Westwick), gets...

Deep Fear, not to be confused with last year’s film about monsters under the streets of Paris (which is probably why they added the “Sharks vs Narcs” subtitle to the film for its digital release), is a call back to the shark films of the past. Not to Jaws or its imitators but to something earlier, like Shark!, Shark’s Treasure, and The Deep where the sharks were a secondary plot element, an added threat for the protagonists to face in addition to other humans.
In the case of Deep Fear that would be Naomi whom we first see showing her co-worker Barney how easily a reef shark can be steered away from people. When she surfaces her partner Jackson that he’s booked another tour.

The Gossip Girl cast has made a lot of money over the years!
The original series – starring Blake Lively, Leighton Meester, Penn Badgley, Ed Westwick, Chace Crawford, Taylor Momsen, Jessica Szohr, Kelly Rutherford, and Matthew Settle – first premiered on The CW in 2007 and ran for six seasons before coming to an end in 2012.
Even though the show isn’t on the air anymore, it’s still a fan-favorite series and the reboot series premiered in the summer of 2021 on HBO Max, however, it only aired for two seasons.
Of course, the show’s success has also meant its talented co-stars have also amassed a great deal of money along the way. They’ve also gone on to take on major new projects and achieve incredible things in their careers after the series ended.
We’ve rounded up the main cast of Gossip Girl, and ranked them according to their estimated net worth.

Kilian Paris’ annual soirée was one of the biggest parties at this year’s Paris Fashion Week — complete with stars, smokiness and sexiness. To celebrate the launch of founder Kilian Hennessy’s latest fragrance, Smoking Hot, on Oct. 2, the French label lit up Mondaine de Pariso in the 7th arrondissement with a guest list that included renowned photographer Ellen Von Unwerth, actors Ed Westwick, Kelly Rutherford and Amy Jackson and castmembers from Netflix’s Emily in Paris including Ashley Park, Samuel Arnold and Paul Forman. Break out your headbands, Upper East Siders and Jenny Humphrey stans. Taylor Momsen reunited with “Gossip Girl” star Penn Badgley for the first time since the 2012 series finale of The CW teen drama, appearing on the Sept. 6 episode of “Podcrushed,” Badgley’s SiriusXM podcast with Nava Kavelin and Sophie Ansari.
During the hour-long episode, the pair reminisced about their time on “Gossip Girl” together; Badgley portrayed Dan Humphrey, while Momsen played his little sister, Jenny, for four seasons. She was just 12 years old when the pilot was shot, and says she didn’t really want to leave her middle school friends — but was “convinced” to do it.
“Larger powers than me came down and went, ‘This is a great opportunity,'” Momsen, now 30, said during the episode, which was recorded before the SAG-AFTRA strike. It was then, filming the show, that she really leaned into music. “That’s where...

Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea International Film Festival has cancelled its swanky Women in Cinema gala event at the upcoming Venice Film Festival in response to the ongoing actors’ strike.
Red Sea CEO Mohammed Al Turki announced the move on his Instagram account on Monday.
“Due to the actors’ strike and in solidarity with the actors. We are unable to proceed with the Women in Cinema event,” he wrote.
Venice, running from August 30 to September 9, is one of the first big film events to feel the heat of the actors’ strike, with original opening film Challengers pulled after its announcement due to the fact its key cast, topped by Zendaya, would be unlikely to attend.
Festival head Alberto Barbera has pulled together an impressive line-up nonetheless but it remains to be seen how much talent will be swilling around the Lido with little end in sight for the actors’ strike which began mid-July.

Exclusive: After launching in Cannes, financier Ashland Hill Media Finance has come aboard to co-finance Rupert Sanders’ reboot of The Crow, starring Bill Skarsgård, FKA Twigs and Danny Houston.
Ashland Hill, which was set up by producers Joe Simpson, Simon Williams and Jonathan Bross, helped close finance on the reboot, which recently went into post-production.
Based on James O’Barr’s original graphic novel, the film charts the story of a brutally murdered man who comes back to life as an undead avenger of his and his fiancée’s murder. The script for the modern re-imagining was penned by Oscar nominee Zach Baylin (King Richard). CAA Media Finance reps domestic on the revenge-thriller. FilmNation is repping international. The tragic 1994 version, which starred the late Brandon Lee, became a cult classic.
Meanwhile, Ashland Hill has also come aboard to finance Louis Mandylor’s 3 Days in Malay, Brandon Slagle’s The Flood and Neil Marshall’s Duchess.
