One half of the "Opie & Anthony" radio show, heard on XM Sattelite Radio and various CBS Radio Stations. Partnered with Anthony Cumia. Born and raised on Long Island, he is currently living in Manhattan. He is part-owner of F.H. Riley's, a restaurant in Huntington, Long Island, with his brother. He was given the nickname "Opie" at a very young age, due to his resemblance to the Ron Howard character from The Andy Griffith Show (1960).

Also hosted the "Opie with Jim Norton" show (2014-16) with Jim Norton and "The Opie Radio Show" (2016-17). Hughes now presents the Opie Radio podcast (2018-present) on Westwood One; featuring Carl Ruiz, Vic Henley, Chris DiStefano and Sherrod Small.
