Charlize Theron is often front-row at tennis matches and fashion shows — but on Tuesday, she was on the court, playing doubles with No. 1 men’s player Novak Djokovic.
The Oscar winner hosted the 20th annual Desert Smash celebrity tennis tournament to support her charity, the Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Project. The organization funds community-based, locally led groups that work directly with young people in preventing gender-based violence, advocating for sexual reproductive health and rights, and providing access to higher education. For the final match, the Serbian tennis superstar made a surprise appearance, interrupting Theron’s game with Atp champion Frances Tiafoe, comedian Yvonne Orji and two-time Grand Slam winner Victoria Azarenka.

Aside from the romance between Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce, perhaps the biggest story in sports this year has been the continued dominance of Iowa Hawkeyes’ guard Caitlin Clark. After having a transcendent 2022-23 season, she has elevated her game to breakthrough superstar status, averaging 32.4 points per game, Clark is on the presipous of becoming the leading scorer in the history of women’s college basketball. She takes her first real shot at stealing the scoring crown on Sunday, Feb. 11 at 1 p.m. Et against the Nebraska Cornhuskers in a game that will air on Fox. Clark 38 points away, which for most people would feel just a bit out of reach, but is certainly in the realm of possibility for the most electric scorer in basketball. Spoiler Alert: Do not read ahead if you have not watched Season 10, Episode 6 of “The Masked Singer,” “Harry Potter Night,” which aired Oct. 25 on Fox.
The timing couldn’t have been better: With Halloween approaching, it was a spooky “Harry Potter”-themed episode of “The Masked Singer” this week, so it was only appropriate that “Teen Wolf” star Tyler Posey would be the next celebrity to be unmasked in Season 10.
Posey was revealed to be Hawk, after this week performing “Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic,” by The Police. “I have this checklist of random weird things that you only get to experience once in a lifetime,” Posey told Variety. “And this fit right in with that. This is just a fun, interesting, random, bizarre experience that I was just completely down to do. It’s also challenging. I’ve always been sort of awkward when it comes to choreographed dancing.

Spoiler Alert: Do not read ahead if you have not watched Season 10, Episode 5 of “The Masked Singer,” “A Celebration of Elton John,” which aired Oct. 18 on Fox.
Elton John and Bernie Taupin wrote the track “Philadelphia Freedom” in 1975 at the behest of tennis icon Billie Jean King (whose team was the Philadelphia Freedoms). So, it was wildly appropriate that King performed the song on Wednesday during “A Celebration of Elton John” on Fox’s “The Masked Singer.”
King performed “Philadelphia Freedom” as the Royal Hen — and the fact that we know she was on the show means that, alas, she was also the next celebrity to be unmasked on “Singer.”
“A true trail blazer, she is famous for championing equal opportunities for all, and has made it her royal mission to be a voice for the voiceless,” a “Masked Singer” voiceover shared in giving the hints to whom the Royal Hen might be.

Ashlee Simpson is still very much in touch with her teenage self. During an interview at Jbl Fest in Las Vegas, Simpson - who broke out in 2004 with the rock-edged "Autobiography" - happily confirms she's never stopped resonating with the bands that she loved back in the day.
"I still listen to Hole. I still listen to Garbage, Nirvana, the whole thing," she tells Popsugar. Of course, those bands never really lost their relevance, and like many other '90s trends, they're definitely having another moment in the sun. "It's so funny that it's even made another resurgence - it's one of those things where music cycles all around," she notes.
She can also definitely still relate to the emotions that animate that music. "For me, yes, I still resonate. I'm still a teen angsty mom," she says. "I'm like yes, Jagger, we're going to jump around and dance."

Fall Out Boy hit the stage during the MTV Video Music Awards on Tuesday night to perform their updated version of Billy Joel’s “We Didn’t Start the Fire.”
The rock group released the song earlier this summer, writing new lyrics for Joel’s iconic hit song, which included references to significant events that happened from the years 1949 to 1989, including everything from the Cold War to the cola wars and Joseph Stalin to John F. Kennedy.
Fall Out Boy’s version covers the years from 1989 to 2023 and references Iron Man, MIchael Phelps, Taylor Swift, Colin Kaepernick, Jeff Bezos, Elon Musk, MySpace and the deaths of George Floyd, Prince and Queen Elizabeth, among other topics.
Bebe Rexha introduced the band at the VMAs, which are airing live from New Jersey’s Prudential Center. During the show, Fall Out Boy — decked out in suits — performed outside the arena on a stage filled with flames.

It was always burning since the world’s been turning, which I guess is why Fall Out Boy have taken it upon themselves to update Billy Joel’s “We Didn’t Start the Fire” for modern times. Listen to their inexplicable new cover below.
Joel’s infamous list song recounts the most important events of his life up until its release, covering the time period of 1949 to 1989. Fall Out Boy’s rendition picks up where the song left off, changing the lyrics to include newsworthy happenings from 1989 to 2023. Grab a limited edition 7-inch vinyl here.
From the jump, Pete Wentz, Patrick Stump, and company touch on political uprisings like the Arab Spring and LA Riots alongside terrorist attacks both foreign and domestic, including the Oklahoma City bomb and 9/11. They also mention climate change (“Polar bears got no ice”), the death of celebrities like Kurt Cobain and Michael Jackson, and conspiracy theories including Qanon.

Fall Out Boy’s founding guitarist is back in the band. On Monday, Joe Trohman announced his return to the group after taking a step away to focus on his mental health earlier this year.
“Hey everyone, I’m officially back! I want to thank everyone for the love and support while I took some time away to focus on my brain and get healthy for my family, my friends and myself,” Trohman wrote on Instagram, thanking “true gentleman and scholar” Ben Young, who took his place during the shows he missed with the band.

As we celebrate, Asian Heritage Month, we take a look at the 34-year-old’s roots in music that stretch all the way back to his childhood.

Liu’s musical origins stretch all the way back to his teen years, when he joined the short-lived high school group LX4.

Fall Out Boy may not have put their blood and sweat into creating their latest album, but they did put their tears into it — literally. On Monday, the band announced an extremely limited-edition vinyl of So Much (for) Stardust that was pressed with Pete Wentz and Patrick Stump’s actual tears.
“Music is more than just sound waves. It’s passion, struggle, and emotion,” a statement on the Crynyl website reads. “That’s why we developed a new kind of record: one that contains the artists’ actual tears. When you listen to a Crynyl release,...

Fall Out Boy records have surely generated a significant amount of tears over the past two decades, but what if Fall Out Boy records were made of tears? The pop-punk veterans have announced Crynyl, a limited edition vinyl infused with the artist’s real, actual tears. First on the docket is their latest album, So Much (For) Stardust,
Fall Out Boy hinted at Crynyl back in March when they posted an Instagram video of Pete Wentz applying tear stick, chopping onions, and sweetly reminiscing on his friendship with Patrick Stump, all for a secret upcoming project. Those tears apparently went towards one of the 50 copies available of So Much (For) Stardust on Crynyl, which come packaged in a gatefold box with a built-in, fully functional tissue dispenser.

One Tree Hill debuted on The CW in 2003, joining the ranks of teen soap operas. The show followed two brothers who had grown apart as they navigated life in the little town of Tree Hill, North Carolina. There is still a sizable following for the series, which starred James Lafferty, Sophia Bush, Bethany Joy Lenz, Chad Michael Murray, and Hilarie Burton.
Throughout its nine seasons, One Tree Hill had several celebrities make guest appearances on the show. One of them was Fall Out Boy’s, Pete Wentz. Fifteen years after the singer’s appearance on the show, Burton said Wentz’s cameo looked bad for him.

Davionte “GaTa” Ganter is the only one in Dave Burd’s inner circle who routinely calls him by his rap name, Lil Dicky. The rationale, says his hype man of nearly a decade and, more recently, his co-star on FX’s Dave, is simple: “I’m always going to remind him, ‘Bro, you Lil Dicky the rapper before we got this dang TV show.'” But that dang TV show has blown open doors for GaTa, too. The first-time actor quickly became the heart of the FX comedy and is now overseas shooting a rom-com with Sydney Sweeney. There’s also new music, other movies and a forthcoming cartoon via Onyx about his South Central L.A. upbringing.
You met Dave Burd early in his Lil Dicky run. What made you want to work together?
When I met Dave, I was at ground zero in my life. I wasn’t touring no more.

The members of Fall Out Boy are weighing in on the impacts of AI and algorithms on the music industry.
In a recent interview with The Independent, the band discussed how their latest album, So Much (for) Stardust, fits into their musical evolution and extensive discography as well as their musical growth. The band, which has been around for two decades, has always played with their tone, with their latest album arriving as a “very low-tech” follow-up to the “cyborg” sounds of 2018’s Mania, according to lead singer and lyricist Patrick Stump.
It’s a blending of the band’s eras that also acknowledges the passage of time and the increasing rise of a “pretty not authentic world,” said bassist Pete Wentz, thanks to things like the metaverse and NFTs.
“We live in a world where it’s NFTs and avatars and my kids are constantly buying Fortnite skins,” Wentz said.

Like all the emo and pop-punk bands that blew up during the ascents of those genres in the aughts, Fall Out Boy have had their share of growing pains in the process of building a name outside of a scene. As they got bigger, they focused more on the pop element of their sound, careening into the natural fit of R&b for singer Patrick Stump’s massive vocals, arena rock, and the type of March Madness-core mess of electro-rock that would define 2018’s Mania.

With a trace of terror in his eyes, Patrick Stump is reliving the ultimate punk rock dilemma. If your bandmate looks like he may have just died onstage, do you keep playing? “His head hit this thing hard, and he was out,” the Fall Out Boy singer says, recalling an early club gig during which bassist and lyricist Pete Wentz took a bad fall. “I was like ‘Is he actually dead, or is he gonna wake up and be p***ed off that we’ve stopped the song?’”
Wentz – provably alive and sporting a flowing dyed-blonde mane where he’d once modelled emo’s most swooned-over fin – laughs along, recalling other show misadventures. Fall Out Boy just released the new album So Much (for) Stardust, and where their last few records dabbled in a more commercial sound, the new LP harkens back to the band’s most rock-heavy days. In a new interview with Variety, Pete Wentz and Patrick Stump looked back on their evolving sound, explaining that their previous shift toward pop — specifically on the 2018 record Mania — was a result of trying to “survive” pop radio.
Guitarist Joe Trohman wrote in his 2022 memoir that he didn’t exactly love the sample-heavy Mania, so much so that he didn’t really participate in its creation. When asked if Trohman’s bristling inspired Fall Out Boy to return to rock on So Much (for) Stardust, Wentz replied,
“I feel like our thoughts on Mania were taken a little out of context. Two records before, we were making albums in a landscape that was not particularly friendly to bands,...

Pete Wentz is reflecting on a big time of change. In the latest edition of Nylon, the 43-year-old Fall Out Boy bassist looks back on his band taking a hiatus after “One Direction-level” of success, and his marriage to Ashlee Simpson ending, which happened at the same time.
“My life was just like… a bomb had gone off in it,” the “Dance, Dance” singer tells the magazine. “You’ve atrophied all of these life skills. I was like, ‘Oh. You have to figure out how to be happy as an adult.'”
Wentz and Simpson were together from 2008-2011, and they share a son, 14-year-old Bronx.
Since their split, Simpson has gone on to marry Evan Ross, and the couple are parents to Jagger, 7, and Ziggy, 2.
Wentz has also moved on. The musician has been with his longtime partner, Megan Camper, since 2011. Together, they share Marvel, 4, and Saint, 8.

Turns out Maya isn’t the only musician in the Hawke/Thurman family. Ethan Hawke is making his debut as a music artist this month in an unexpected place: iconic pop-punk band Fall Out Boy’s upcoming eighth studio album, “So Much (for) Stardust.”
The news was announced by the “Sugar, We’re Goin Down” and “This Ain’t a Scene, It’s an Arms Race” band on Friday, via a Twitter post revealing the full tracklist of their upcoming record. Hawke is listed as a featured guest on the song “The Pink Seashell,” and the only guest on the 13-track album. Fall Out Boy — which consists of Patrick Stump, Pete Wentz, Andy Hurley, and the on-hiatus Joe Trohman — has promoted the album with two singles, “Love from the Other Side” and “Heartbreak Feels So Good,” released in January.

Fall Out Boy revealed the track listing for their upcoming album Friday, and fans were surprised to see that Ethan Hawke is featured on “So Much (For) Stardust,” which drops March 24.
Hawke appears on a song titled “The Pink Seashell feat. Ethan Hawke,” and as bassist and lyricist Pete Wentz explained in 2020, it’s inspired by a moment in Hawke’s 1994 film, “Reality Bites.”
“There’s this bit in the movie ‘Reality Bites’ where Ethan Hawke’s character talks about seeing his dad after he found out he had cancer. They’d talk about life and he gave Ethan’s character a pink seashell to help explain things,” Wentz told NME.

Hours before Joe Trohman announced his temporary departure from Fall Out Boy, the now-trio appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live to deliver their new single “Love From the Other Side.”
The performance kicked off with Patrick Stump on lead guitar and drummer Andy Hurley playing the opening riffs while bassist Pete Wentz slowly made his way toward the stage, leading a pack of emo-haired doppelgängers who ultimately formed the mosh pit.
Fall Out Boy’s performance was taped before — but broadcast after — Trohman revealed in a statement that he would take a hiatus from the band.

Fall Out Boy’s guitarist, Joe Trohman has announced he’s taking a break from the band due to mental health reasons.
The guitarist shared the news on a post via Instagram on Thursday morning (19 January).
The post comes ahead of the band’s forthcoming album release, So Much (for) Stardust, due in March.
“I can tell you unequivocally that burning out is dreadful,” wrote the 38-year-old musician, explaining his decision.
“Without disclosing the details, I must tell you that my mental health has rapidly deteriorated over the past several years,” he wrote.
“So to avoid fading away and never returning, I will be taking a break from work, which regrettably includes stepping away from Fall Out Boy for a spell.”
He continued: “It pains me to make this decision, especially when we’re releasing a new album that fills me with great pride.”
