Last week, the Netflix streaming service released Ripley, a limited series adaptation of Patricia Highsmith’s novel The Talented Mr. Ripley that sees Andrew Scott taking on the title role. (You can read our review Here). Tom Ripley is a character who has been fascinating readers and viewers for decades, as he was at the center of multiple novels written by Highsmith. Ripley was originally set up Showtime, where Schindler’s List Oscar winner Steven Zaillian – who wrote and directed all eight episodes of Ripley – was planning to use all of the Ripley novels as “a road map to showcase Ripley’s transformation from con artist to serial killer” over the course of an on-going series. Now that Ripley has made its way out into the world on Netflix, Scott and Zaillian have both said that it’s possible the show could return for more seasons that could adapt more of the books…...

When NBC recently resurrected its long-dormant “Deal or No Deal,” it came with a new format: “Deal or No Deal Island.” The game show was originally a “shiny floor” in-studio contest where players had to guess how much money was inside a large briefcase. The updated iteration takes things outdoors, raising the stakes by adding interpersonal dynamics, physical challenges and survival to the mix.

Tom Ripley is a character who has been fascinating readers and viewers for decades. Not only was he at the center of multiple novels written by Patricia Highsmith, but those novels have also received multiple adaptations: the 1960 film Purple Noon (where Ripley was played by Alain Delon), the 1977 film The American Friend (with Dennis Hopper as Ripley), the 2002 film Ripley’s Game (John Malkovich was Ripley in that one), the 2005 film Ripley Under Ground (with Barry Pepper as Ripley), a 1956 episode of the TV series Studio One, and perhaps most famously, the 1999 film The Talented Mr. Ripley, where Ripley was played by Matt Damon. Now Andrew Scott is taking on the role for Ripley, a limited series adaptation of The Talented Mr. Ripley that will be released through the Netflix streaming service on April 4th – and during an interview with Empire, Scott said he didn’t judge or try to diagnose his questionable character.

Imagine “Deal or No Deal” set on an exotic island, with its 13 participants facing extreme challenges, testing their limits and literally crawling through mud. Except you don’t have to – it’s already here.
“What if the Banker had a private island and decided to put his contestants through an extreme game to find one winner? The craziness of the idea is, I think, what we and NBC rallied around,” says Sharon Levy, CEO at Endemol Shine North America.
Levy also executive produces “Deal or No Deal Island” alongside Matt Kunitz, Matt Apps, Sarah Happel Jackson, Howie Mandel, DJ Nurre and Sean Loughlin.
“You say the title and people are like: ‘Is that for real?’ Our favorite comments on social media have been about whether this is a ‘30 Rock’ pitch. I take that as the highest, and best, compliment,” she adds, referencing the sitcom created by Tina Fey.

ABC has recruited “The Home Edit” lifestyle brand founders Clea Shearer and Joanna Teplin to host a reboot of “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.”
The series will continue to focus on home renovations, with the addition of the “Getting Organized with the Home Edit” duo’s organizational expertise. The home-building process will still feature volunteers who construct renovated houses for families who give back to their communities.
Each episode, Teplin and Shearer will meet a family in need of a home renovation. A team of builders, contractors, design experts and more will assist the pair in redesigning the family’s house to better suit their lifestyle and needs. Teplin and Shearer will also parse through the family’s possessions to decide which to keep and which to let go in addition to functional life organizational systems.

A remodeled edition of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition is being assembled at ABC, as broadcasters plot to stock their shelves with fare that is WGA strike-proof.
The unscripted home renovation show — which ran for nine seasons on ABC (from 2004-2012, with Ty Pennington as host), and then got a one-season reboot via HGTV in 2020 — this time around will be hosted by Clea Shearer and Joanna Teplin, best friends and co-founders of the lifestyle brand The Home Edit (which in September 2020 begat a two-season Netflix series).

ABC is developing a new version of “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.”
Clea Shearer and Joanna Teplin, best known as the co-founders of the lifestyle brand The Home Edit, will serve as hosts of the new version of the show should it move forward. The show currently has the same title as the original, but that is a working title at this time.
As with the original show, each episode will see the hosts meet a family that needs a new home or major renovations to their current home. The hosts will then work with a team of builders, designers, and contractors to reshape the house to the family’s needs.
Shearer and Teplin founded The Home Edit in 2015. The brand has proven incredibly popular, with Reese Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine, a part of Candle Media, acquiring it in 2022.

ABC is working to bring back Extreme Makeover: Home Edition to the network after the format’s brief dalliance with HGTV.

The duo previously fronted two seasons of Netflix’s Get Organized with the Home Edit.
After ABC canceled the show – itself a spinoff of Extreme Makeover – in 2012, HGTV rebooted the series with Modern Family’s Jesse Tyler Ferguson for one season in 2020.
In each episode Shearer and Teplin will meet a deserving family in need of a new home or a major renovation. A team of builders, contractors, and design experts will assist them on each big makeover project, ultimately transforming the home based on the family’s lifestyle and needs. The pair...

Updated: The network upfronts are once again front-and-center for the television industry as major players gather in New York May 15-17 for the springtime ritual of presenting programming plans for the upcoming TV season.
Upfronts are always a hectic time, but this year it’s even more so because of the writers strike that began May 2. Writers and many actors are sitting out the upfront presentations in solidarity with the Writers Guild of America. The promise of WGA pickets surrounding all major events spurred Netflix to make a hasty decision to switch to a virtual presentation rather than an in-person event at the company’s Paris Theater.
As content chiefs outline their plans for the 2022-2023 television season, here is a running list of new drama and comedy series orders handed out by ABC, Disney, CBS, Warner Bros. Discovery, NBC, Fox, the CW and other major players in the upfront.
