As anyone who's seen it will attest, 1989's "Road House" is an odd movie. Starring the inimitable Patrick Swayze as a "cooler" named Dalton who's hired to run security for a small town bar, the film feels so niche, so specific, so delightfully bonkers that you almost can't believe people signed off on pumping millions of dollars into making it. There's an inherent goofiness to that version, even if the characters aren't winking at the audience. In many ways, it's a relic from a different era, and a modern remake of "Road House," like the one now available on Prime Video from director Doug Liman and starring Jake Gyllenhaal, was never going to be able to recapture the original's ineffable magic. I had some fun with the new version, but tonally, it's much darker than the first film.
The reason it feels darker is because the new film falls into...

Here’s an idea to hit you like a lightning bolt: what if Jeff Goldblum was a Greek god? Frankly, it’s a pitch that’s difficult to turn down – which maybe explains why Netflix didn’t. The streaming service has upcoming drama Kaos on its slate, bringing a contemporary take on Greek mythology – and casting none other than Jurassic Park’s Ian Malcolm as Zeus, the King Of The Gods. Yes, the Chaotician is now the leader of Kaos. The series comes from The End Of The F***ing World writer Charlie Covell, and there’s a stylish first teaser that you can watch right here:
From the very first instance of Goldblum saying “mortals” in his none-more-Goldblum voice (while checking his gold watch), it’s clear that there’s mileage in this premise. Not to mention, his Zeus likes to wear striped tracksuits and open-collar shirts, while living...

There have been a variety of "Jurassic Park" Lego sets released in recent years that pay tribute to Steven Spielberg's classic movie and the franchise it spawned. While many of them are geared toward kids looking to play with dinosaurs and various vehicles and settings inspired by the blockbuster franchise, there are a handful of sets intended for the more grown-up builder and collector. We've seen the Lego diorama version of the Tyrannosaurus rex attack on Dr. Alan Grant, Dr. Ian Malcolm, and John Hammond's grandchildren Lex and Tim, as well as a larger Lego set dedicated to the dinosaur theme park's iconic gates, complete with a big buildable T-rex. The latest collectible "Jurassic Park" set is a little more sophisticated.

Jeff Goldblum had cultivated a reputation as one of Hollywood’s quirkiest actors by the time he was cast in the original Jurassic Park. That made him an excellent choice for the role of Dr. Ian Malcolm, whose scientific specialty is chaos theory. Goldblum would go on to play the character in four of the franchise’s films, including the most recent, Jurassic World Dominion. When we spoke to Goldblum about the original 1993 film, he talked about the challenges of making such a technically challenging movie. Universal Pictures appears to be wasting precisely zero time in getting the "Jurassic World" franchise back up and running again. Even though we only recently learned that original "Jurassic Park" writer David Koepp has been working on a script for a new installment in the franchise, we've now learned that the studio has set a 2025 release date for the film. What's more, they're zeroing in on a big-name director to tackle the project in the form of David Leitch ("John Wick." "Deadpool 2").
According to Deadline, Leitch is in early talks to occupy the director's chair of the upcoming "Jurassic" film, which does not have a title yet but would be the seventh entry in the series overall. Leitch previously worked for Universal on the "Fast & Furious" spin-off "Hobbs & Shaw," which was a big success taking in $760 million at the global box office back in 2019. "Jurassic Park" is a movie that needs no introduction. One of the finest moments in the career of one of cinema's most celebrated filmmakers, Steven Spielberg's adaptation of Michael Crichton's novel of the same name remains one of the most important blockbusters of all time. It was one of the biggest box office hits ever when it was released, but also a movie that shaped the landscape of blockbuster filmmaking for decades to come. It was a hulking cinematic achievement and one that left some battle scars along the way.

They got the original Jp cast back together for Jurassic World Dominion last year, but it got awful reviews and no one seemed to enjoy it much. There also seem to be extra Lego jokes thrown in for good measure, including...

Plot: During a pivotal time in World War II, Professor Robert Oppenheimer is chosen by the army to head up the Manhattan Project, the focus being creating the first nuclear weapon the Earth has ever seen. Gathering scientists from all over the world, Oppenheimer’s obsession with finishing the bomb before the Nazis has an overwhelming impact on his personal life, in ways both immediately obvious and impossible to predict.

I remember the first time I saw dinosaurs roar to life on the big screen like it was yesterday. I was eleven years old and as I walked into the theater with a bag of popcorn and a large Coke, I was overcome with excitement. I rushed to get a good seat, right in the middle, and as soon as the first Brachiosaurus walked on the screen and John Hammond uttered those famous words, “Welcome to Jurassic Park,” my jaw dropped further than Dr. Grant’s. Holy shit. Yes, as an 11-year-old I thought,...

Jurassic Park was nothing short of a phenomenon when it arrived in cinemas back in June 1993. Like Robert Muldoon being pursued by a pack of velociraptors, there was simply no escaping the clutches of what was a cultural phenomenon. But while much of the focus was on Steven Spielberg’s movie and its heady mix of stunning special effects and a shirtless Jeff Goldblum, what helped give Jurassic Park that extra bit of bite at the box office was the astonishing amount of merchandising surrounding the film.
Jurassic Park was ubiquitous that summer, whether it was the iconic Kenner line of toys featuring familiar characters from the film apart from Lex (blame Jurassic patriarchy), the Sega Genesis game that let you play as a raptor chomping on foolish humans, or the bizarre line of salami and beef jerky products that hit store shelves, life found a way.

The DNA of the summer blockbuster will forever be infused with that of Steven Spielberg changed the game – an event movie that literally had people queueing down the street to watch it (hence the phrase ‘block-buster’), desperate to escape the heat and experience two hours of oceanic terror in an air-conditioned cinema. The Hollywood landscape was never the same. But while it was _Jaws that invented the blockbuster, for a generation of movie-goers it was another Steven Spielberg film that perfected it, nearly two decades later. In the summer of 1993, the director delivered an adventure 65 million years in the making – a monster movie of sorts, boasting groundbreaking computer effects, bigger teeth than Bruce the shark, and a promise to do the impossible: to bring dinosaurs back from extinction before your very eyes. “Welcome… to Jurassic Park.”
There are several building-blocks needed to create the perfect blockbuster movie – it’s not just about action sequences.

Jurassic Park, based on Michael Crichton’s novel, spawned five blockbuster sequels as well as a multitude of spin-off games, toys, novels, and multiple animated television shows. It features a theme park housing de-extincted dinosaurs that break out of their confines and cause havoc. Underpinning the plot is clever genetic engineering that has allowed the Park’s scientists to assume they could control all aspects of the dinosaurs’ development, including their sex, much to their later horror when it becomes apparent such control was never possible. The film franchise has taken an average of over $1 billion dollars at the box office,...

It’s 30 years this June since Jurassic Park roared into theaters. The monster franchise now boasts six films: 1993’s Jp, 1997’s The Lost World, and 2001’s Jurassic Park III — all tracking paleontologist Alan Grant (Sam Neill), paleo-botanist Ellie Sattler (Laura Dern) and “chaotician” Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum) — and the 2015–22 reboot trilogy of Jurassic World, Fallen Kingdom, and Dominion, led by raptor trainer Owen Grady (Chris Pratt) and park exec Claire Dearing (Bryce Dallas Howard). (Credit: John Wilson / © Universal Pictures / courtesy Everett Collection) Which is the indomitable best? Dominion should reign supreme, since it united the stars of both eras. Sadly, the ludicrous script and paltry interaction between the two casts proved to be the worst thing to happen to dinosaurs since that meteor hit Earth. It’s clear the classic remains the champ (although World is a close second). It gave us a truly terrifying T. rex and, through groundbreaking effects,...

Perhaps the most exciting reveal so far is a batch of new "Jurassic Park" Lego sets that finally deliver perfectly sized building brick versions of the Jurassic Park Jeep and Ford Explorer from the doomed theme park. But of course, it wouldn't be a proper "Jurassic Park" Lego collection without a batch of dinosaurs and minifigures for all the important characters from the beloved movie. There are also crucial details for fans to enjoy, such as the Barbasol shaving cream can be used to smuggle dinosaur DNA and the "one big pile of s***" that Ian Malcolm wryly comments upon while checking on a sick Triceratops.

Science fiction is the exploration of our practical imaginations. Its stories can be fantastic, uplifting, and horrifying but they need to remain grounded in a scientifically applied reality -- a reality we already understand or one that's clearly explained. Without these rules governing our experiences, our exploration becomes untethered from reality and sails off into obscurity, and no CGI velociraptor, animatronic android, or puppet-like killer shrew is going to save it. Or can it? If Dr. Ian Malcolm were a film historian, his cinematic chaos theory would predict that over time, lovingly crafted cinema, like life, breaks free, expands to new territories, and crashes through barriers, painfully, maybe even dangerously.
In their era, masterpieces like "The Thing" may have been a little too much for audiences. Some critics struggled to see the beauty present in John Carpenter's classic beyond the gore and creatures. Over time, though, a cinematically enlightened...

For over 50 years the filmmaker with the iconic beard has made hits of almost everything he's put his name to. From groundbreaking modern classics like "Raiders of the Lost Ark," "E.T: The Extra-Terrestrial" and "Jurassic Park," to producing nostalgic mega-hits like "Back To The Future," "Gremlins" and "The Goonies," Spielberg could arguably be labeled as one of the chief architects of modern pop-culture as we know it.
Rose-tinted glasses aside, this iconic moviemaker has also helped push the boundaries of what a big-screen adventure can look like and the technical scale at which they are told. Spielberg's extensive body of work has emerged with a baked-in ability to withstand the test of time, all while serving as many a future cinephile's wholesome first steps into the illustrious, varied, and dazzling world of movies at large.

Directed by Colin Trevorrow and executive-produced by Steven Spielberg, the director of the first two Jurassic Park films, Jurassic World Dominion takes place four years after Isla Nublar’s destruction when dinosaurs roam the Earth again.
Facing the cataclysmic consequences of a planet once again dominated by prehistoric predators, two generations of Jurassic heroes unite as doctors Ellie Sattler (Laura Dern), Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum) and Alan Grant (Sam Neill) return to join Owen Grady (Chris Pratt) and Claire Dearing (Bryce Dallas Howard) for an incredible adventure that will determine the destiny of humans and dinosaurs once and for all.

“Jurassic World: Dominion” hit theaters this summer as a culmination of sorts for the franchise. For one, it marked an end to the trilogy Colin Trevorrow oversaw since 2015’s “Jurassic World.” But it also brought together “Jurassic Park” characters of old like Sam Neill‘s Alan Grant, Laura Dern‘s Ellie Sattler, and fan-favorite Jeff Goldblum‘s Ian Malcolm to tie up loose ends.

It may have taken a little longer than the previous installments, but Jurassic World: Dominion has now grossed 1 billion at the worldwide box office. The sequel is now just the third movie to reach the 1 billion mark during the pandemic era, after Spider-Man: No Way Home and Top Gun: Maverick.
This recent milestone also means that the entire Jurassic World trilogy is sitting pretty in the billion-dollar club. Jurassic World grossed 1.6 billion worldwide, with Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom taking in 1.3 billion worldwide. The new sequel united two generations of the Jurassic era for the first time. Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard returned as Owen Grady and Claire Dearing, but they were also joined by Sam Neill as Dr. Alan Grant, Laura Dern as Dr. Ellie Sattler, and Jeff Goldblum as Dr. Ian Malcolm. Toward the beginning of “Jurassic Park,” while debating the efficacy of the rigid confines of Isla Nublar’s foolproof dinosaur containment and control system, chaos theorist Ian Malcolm ominously intones the now iconic line, “Life finds a way.”
This line is referenced numerous times, first directly and later more obliquely, throughout “Biosphere,” the directorial debut of producer Mel Eslyn. Led by Sterling K. Brown and Mark Duplass, it follows two men as they cope with being the last humans alive on the planet and the evolutionary changes that nature throws their way.
Ray (Brown) and Billy (Duplass) are the only residents of an apartment-sized bio-dome after some unknown catastrophe appears to have annihilated all other life on Earth. It’s implied eventually that Billy,...

Recently, the sixth entry in the Jurassic saga, Dominion, saw Chris Pratt, Isabella Sermon, and Bryce Dallas Howard team up with original cast members Laura Dern (Ellie Sattler), Jeff Goldblum (Ian Malcolm), and Sam Neil (Alan Grant). Newcomers DeWanda Wise (Kayla Watts), Mamoudou Athie (Ramsay Cole), and Omar Sy (Barry Sembene) had essential roles in the action/adventure feature as well. Dominion was being billed as the final film. It picks up four years after Isla Nublar was destroyed; dinosaurs and humans live together, which ultimately spells disaster for humanity when these apex predators go out of control. “Jurassic World Dominion” is upon us.
Billed as the last installment in the “Jurassic” “era” (because surely there will be more films), this latest entry in the franchise that began with Steven Spielberg’s masterpiece “Jurassic Park” back in 1993, is bigger and more dinosaur-stuffed than ever. “Jurassic World: Dominion” unites the two halves of the saga, as well – with newer characters like Owen Grady (Chris Pratt) and Claire Dearing (Bryce Dallas Howard) partnering up with legacy characters Alan Grant (Sam Neill), Ellie Sattler (Laura Dern) and Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum). Considering that they they are dealing with various ecological disasters, corporate conspiracies and villainous threats, there’s enough adventuring to go around.
But how does the whole thing come together? And where does the movie leave off? Read on to find contextualize that ending if you just caught up with the film on streaming.
Major spoilers for “Jurassic World: Dominion” follow.

I remember how perfectly John Williams’ lush score for 1993’s Jurassic Park set the stage for what was to follow. That film was imaginative, funny, scary, and filled with interesting doings. Since then, every sequel has paled in comparison, lifting bits and pieces of the memorable theme and elements from the first film. What filled in the large gaps were just…more. More dinosaurs. More chases. More corporate stupidity. What was a noble, yet misguided plan was undermined by corporate greed, a theme that was exhausted by the time Wayne Knight was devoured.
The Jurassic World reboot with Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard was entertaining enough and the CGI improved so we could see more nuance among the species that were now becoming a global ecological threat. Add in some genetic shenanigans with the arrival of Maisie Lockwood (Isabella Sermon), you have some new tones to play with.

The “Jurassic World” comes to some kind of conclusion in “Jurassic World Dominion,” the latest film in the “Jurassic Park” franchise and the second sequel in the semi-rebooted “Jurassic World” series of films.
The franchise’s first film, “Jurassic Park,” was released in 1993 and was directed by Steven Spielberg. A massive box office hit at the time, the film spawned a franchise that includes sequels “The Lost World: Jurassic Park” (1997) and “Jurassic Park III” (2001) and the reboot/sequel “Jurassic World” (2015) and its follow-up “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom” (2018).
Director Colin Trevorrow returns to the director’s chair for “Dominion,” which completes the story he began with “Jurassic World.” Find out everything you need to know about where and how to watch “Jurassic World Dominion” below.

Jeff Goldblum, fresh off his return as Dr. Ian Malcolm in “Jurassic World Dominion,” will replace Hugh Grant as Zeus in Netflix’s series reimagining of Greek mythology,”Kaos,” TheWrap has confirmed.
Grant was forced to pull out of the series, which hails from writer and creator Charlie Covell (“The End of the F***ing World”), due to a scheduling conflict. Goldblum now slots into a cast that already includes Janet McTeer, Cliff Curtis, David Thewlis, Killian Scott, Aurora Perrineau, Misia Butler, Leila Farzad, Nabhaan Rizwan, Rakie Ayola and Stanley Townsend.
The eight-episode contemporary take, which was initially announced back in 2018, is described by Netflix as a “genre-bending series” that puts a “modern twist on Greek and Roman mythology, exploring themes of gender politics, power and life in the underworld.” Production is set to begin later this summer.

Exclusive: Jeff Goldblum (Jurassic World Dominion) has been tapped as one of the leads, vengeful god Zeus, in Netflix’s darkly comedic Greek mythology reimagining series Kaos, from creator-writer Charlie Covell. He replaces Hugh Grant, who originally had been cast in the role but had to pull out over date availability.
Goldblum joins Kaos‘ ensemble cast, which includes Janet McTeer, Cliff Curtis, David Thewlis, Killian Scott, Aurora Perrineau, Misia Butler, Leila Farzad, Nabhaan Rizwan, Rakie Ayola and Stanley Townsend. Filming is slated to begin later this summer.
Kaos is billed as a bold, darkly comic contemporary take on Greek mythology, exploring love, power and life in the underworld. Nothing is sacred in Covell’s bold reinvention of Greek myths (think tracksuits not togas), except the treachery and arrogance of a bunch of inconstant gods and their cosmic machinations…Some things never change.

If you ask "Jurassic Park" fans about their favorite scene from the 1993 film, you may hear things like "when the water in the glass started moving from the T. rex's pounding steps," or "Ian Malcolm's 'Life, uh, finds a way' speech." If they're really being honest, however, their real favorite scene is probably when attorney Donald Gennaro (Martin Ferrero) was eaten on the toilet by the T. rex.

Cinema, since its earliest formation, has been the ultimate special effect. The illusion of the wildest fantasies or closest realities, being all around us. And in 1993, when Stephen Spielberg’s Jurassic Park walked with dinosaurs, the ultimate effect was achieved. Much like the late great Richard Attenborough’s well meaning but misguided John Hammond, Spielberg in adapting Michael Crichton’s novel, wanted to give us something that wasn’t an illusion. Something that was real. Something we could see, and almost touch. Even all these years on, in the dawn of advancing CGI, that film’s blend of practical and new age computer generated technology, remains spellbinding, but equally as importantly, so too do its characters and it’s, ever more meaningful, story.

With the release of "Jurassic World Dominion," one of the biggest movie franchises in the history of cinema approaches something that is meant to feel like closure. After all, this is the end of the current trilogy, and it brings things full circle by returning many characters from the original "Jurassic Park." It all has been building to this. So goes the marketing for Jurassic World Dominion, the first film in 29 years to feature Sam Neill, Laura Dern, and Jeff Goldblum all back together onscreen as their beloved characters of Dr. Alan Grant, Dr. Ellie Satler, and Dr. Ian Malcolm, respectively. As such it is being sold as the end of the “Jurassic Era,” as well as the culmination of the original Jurassic Park movies from the 1990s on top of being the finale to the Jurassic World movies, which began by focusing on another generation in 2015.
As such the film allegedly isn’t supposed to be interested in setting the stage for sequels or events to come. Instead it prefers drawing a curtain on what we’ve already seen: We learn the truth about the origins of the first human clone, Maisie Lockwood (Isabella Sermon...

Jurassic World Dominion ends the trilogy that started seven years ago, and my only wish is that it never started in the first place.
Four years after the previous instalment, Jurassic World Dominion shows us a world where dinosaurs live alongside humans and the challenges that it brings. It’s an interesting idea, however it’s handled in such an unoriginal way that the film’s run time already begins to feel like a drag and disconnects its audience from the very start. From then on, the plot is loosely strung together as the main characters bounce from scene to scene with no real idea of what they want the film to be. There are sections...

This past weekend saw the release of Colin Trevorrow’s final chapter in the “Jurassic World” trilogy. While the film earned nearly 150 million at the domestic box office this weekend, reviews weren’t kind (including IndieWire’s own) and the film currently sits at a dismal 30 percent on Rotten Tomatoes (the lowest of any film in this trilogy or the previous one). While the return of the original trilogy’s core trio delighted plenty of audience members, fans and critics alike balked at the film’s convoluted story, its resistance to digging into more dino-centric action, and a truly bizarre choice to make some other creepy animal its main baddie.

A key element of “Jurassic World Dominion” is Jeff Goldblum’s Dr. Ian Malcolm reunion with the original “Jurassic Park” crew, as the quartet share the screen for the first time since 1993.
But that plot point isn’t the only “Jurassic” milestone for 2022. Attention must also be paid to the 25th anniversary of the dinosaur franchise’s second film, 1997’s “The Lost World: Jurassic Park.”
Goldblum’s Malcolm took the lead in that movie, which debuted on May 23, 1997 and saw the sci-fi action move from the original park on Isla Nublar to Isla Sorna (otherwise known as Site B) where the resurrected dinosaurs roam freely.
After a young girl is attacked on the island, Jurassic Park founder John Hammond (the late Richard Attenborough) recruits a team, led by Malcolm, to study and document the animals in their natural habitat in hopes of encouraging the government to enact a policy of non-interference.

Were Dr. Alan Grant (Sam Neill) and Dr. Ellie Sattler (Laura Dern) an item in the original Jurassic Park movie from 1993? Fans still debate the issue almost 30 years later. While the characters never embrace with more than a hug over the course of that Steven Spielberg classic, and refer to each other as almost anything other than friends or colleagues, it was long assumed by most who viewed the movie in ’93 that they were a couple. After all, Alan is quite defensive of Ellie when he sees Jeff Goldblum’s Ian Malcolm put the moves on the paleobotanist, and Grant’s whole arc is about him realizing he wants to have kids (and Ellie’s watchful eyes judging if he’s made that transition).

The dino blockbuster whimpers to a close as Colin Trevorrow’s third instalment of the long-running beastie franchise chooses to play it safe
In 2019, JJ Abrams’s Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker served up a string of emptily familiar set pieces as it brought the curtain down on Episode IX – the final instalment of a sequel trilogy. Ever since, fans of the furiously divisive penultimate instalment, The Last Jedi, have argued that The Rise of Skywalker’s original co-writer/director, Colin Trevorrow, would have delivered a far more rewardingly risk-taking finale had he not left because of “creative differences”.
