Look out Las Vegas, Prince Harry is heading your way! The royal party boy will be taking some helicopter training just outside Sin City for twelve weeks, and will have a 48 hour pass to party at one point. I'd recommend stocking up on supplies soon, because it's going to be epic.
A 24-year-old American has died of a toothache because he didn't have health insurance. What is wrong with this country?
When CBS brings The Talk back this fall, it will be without Holly Robinson Peete, who has been officially let go. But they'll be adding conservative comic Sheryl Underwood. The entire phrase "conservative comic" fills me with dread, and I don't know anything about her.

Cashiers du Cinemart, the legendary cult movie zine that puts all other movie zines to shame, has returned with a brand new print edition that is available in a variety of formats, from an old school photocopied version to a glossy high-end print-on-demand version to an electronic Kindle edition and more.
After a four-year hiatus, publisher and editor Mike White has returned to the printed page as part of a wider “Print Is Not Dead” movement. In typical fashion of it’s earlier print editions, Cashiers du Cinemart #16 is a massive 100-plus page endeavor with contributions from numerous writers, including White himself, riffing on classic cult movies, taking apart mainstream films, analyzing obscure genres, interviewing filmmakers a ton more fun stuff.
This new print zine comes hot on the heels of the hit book Impossibly Funky: A Cashiers du Cinemart Collection, which gathered the best articles from the zine’s previous 15 issues,...

Robert Rodriguez has been telling anyone who will listen that he wants to return to the world of Sin City. The first film, based on the graphic novel by Frank Miller, was a box office and fan favorite and starred an all-star cast including Clive Owen, Jessica Alba, Bruce Willis, Carla Gugino and Mickey Rourke.
Well, according to Rodriguez, the man behind the story -- Miller -- has finished a script and the moviemaker even has financing to go forward with his dream sequel.
When at Comic-Con in San Diego in July, Rodriguez told the Hall H fans that the film “could shoot as early as next year.”
Now, in an interview with We Got This Covered, the Texas-based auteur says he has all his ducks in a row to go forward with Sin City 2.
“Sin City 2 is going good. We're just finishing the script for that.

Olivia Wilde as porn star Linda Lovelace? If that doesn't set off some alarms in your head, you might not have a pulse!
"It would be a tremendous honor," Wilde told E! Online of the possibility that she might star in a biopic from Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman about the "Deep Throat" star. "It's such a cool role. She was a fascinating woman—with where she came from to 'Deep Throat' to then working with Gloria Steinem and Nora Ephron. It's really fascinating."
Nothing's confirmed yet, but if Wilde takes on the role, she'll be the second Hollywood star taking a big-screen shot at Lovelace; "Watchmen" actress Malin Akerman is starring in a separate biopic about the topic.

Robert Rodriguez is generally a solid draw at Comic-Con, and this year’s event saw him present a packed panel loaded with news on his future projects. Among them was his plan to open a museum dedicated to pulp artist Frank Frazetta, and, for those who don’t have the wherewithal to travel to Austin, Texas to see it, an idea for a series of films based on Frazetta’s iconic artwork. Now some of the concept art for the first movie – Fire and Ice – is online and can be gawped at below. The pics were knocked up by the writer/director and his team at Quick Draw Entertainment and give you some idea of what to expect from the movie. Particularly as Rodriguez is planning to go all Sin City on the artwork and story, which was originally brought to the screen in animated form back in 1983… “I want...

San Diego Comic-Con 2011: Robert Rodriguez Talks Machete Sequels, Heavy Metal, Sin City 2, and More!
During his panel at this year's San Diego Comic-Con director Robert Rodriguez dropped quite a few bits of interesting news on the fans in attendance and we have the highlights for you right here! Dig it!
Thanks to Maria Lewis for transcribing the goodies ...
"It's probably to some surprise or no surprise, because you guys really supported Machete," Rodriguez said. "'Machete' will kill and kill again because of what you've done. At least definitely the second one, which we're going straight in to."
Rodriguez said although they're a way off from starting work on Machete Kills Again, the film will be out of this universe – literally.
"I can't wait to do part three because it is a space opera and there will be Machete with space babes. 'Machete Kills Again' . . .in space. To see a bad ass Mexican in space is really rare, especially in science fiction."

Robert Rodriguez closed out an announcement-riddled Comic-Con panel with one more surprise; he's teamed with the estate of fantasy artist Frank Frazetta for a live-action take on Fire and Ice , inspired by the artist's legendary work and the previous 1983 animated version. Explaining that he wants to apply to Frazetta the same dedication that gave Frank Miller with Sin City , Rodriguez showed off a montage of stills that featured many fantastic scenes taken directly from some of Frazetta's most famous original works. In addition to the project, Rodriguez will be working closely with the Frazetta estate for a number of future projects in a variety of media, including a soon-to-open museum to be housed in Austin, Texas.

Gaga's latest is full of nods to fashion, film, fine art and the occasional West Texas weirdo.

By now, you've had a few hours to digest Lady Gaga's brand-new "Born This Way" video, a starry, swirly, some would say gnarly clip that features plenty of astral afterbirth, a snarling man-zombie and exactly one shimmering unicorn.
So, yes, "Btw" is most definitely an eye-catching, high-concept thing — as Gaga told BBC's Radio 1, it's meant to showcase "the birth of a new race," which doesn't make it all that different from all of her videos, if you think about it.
And, much like her earlier work, "Btw" is also loaded with blink-and-you'll-miss-it moments, carefully constructed odes to fashion, film, fine art and, uh, West Texas weirdos. So, in the same way we broke down her "Telephone" and "Alejandro" clips, we've decided to put...

[1] I have just heard that Bob Weinstein and Dimension Films have acquired Kristoffer Aaron Morgan's H.P. Lovecraftian horror film The Home. I'm happy to hear that Dimension Films wants to release an original movie again. The Home seems like a film they would have invested in back in the mid-1990's. It seems like now-a-days, they're concentrating mostly on sequels, remakes and un-funny parody movies. No word on if Dimension will be releasing the film theatrically or just home video. I'm sure, at very least, The Home will have a film festival run. Penned by Morgan alongside Eric Vespe (better known to film geeks at Quint from Ain't It Cool News), the story has been described as a "character driven, atmospheric, twisted creature flick". The Home tells the story of a firefighter who "is nearly killed during a failed rescue that leaves him physically and emotionally scarred. To recuperate,...

Predators hit home video last week and, to celebrate, Fox invited ShockTillYouDrop to visit Robert Rodriguez's Troublemaker Studios in Austin, Texas where, along with on-location shooting in Hawaii, the film was made. Formerly an airport, Troublemaker is an ever-growing production facility that soon hopes to go completely autonomous, meaning that every single aspect of the filmmaking process could be completed on its grounds. Taking a brief tour of the facilities, it's not hard to recognize painted backgrounds from Predators , Grindhouse , and Machete literally constructed into the exterior of the central building. Within, the largest green screen in Texas is where Sin City was shot in its entirety. Rodriguez, founder of the studio and producer of Predators , is joined...

I began the day with an introduction from Elizabeth Avellán, Rodriguez's longtime producing partner, and then a brief tour of the studio. Troublemaker was once former governor (and president) George W. Bush's airplane hangar before Rodriguez and Avellán bought it and transformed it into the studio we know today. Head to Austin, Texas, home of Tarantino's film festival, Mumblecore – and possibly the best cinema chain in the world
A real indie movie holiday would consist of holing yourself up in your bedroom and sulking about how no one understands you/cares if you live or die/follows you on Twitter/accepts your eBay bids for obscure Pixies EPs, etc – so give yourself a break. But where? America, obviously. Duh! But where in America? California? That's not indie, that's the domain of The Man. New York? Yawn. Portland, Oregon? That's more like it – Gus Van Sant-land. Oh, but wait, now they've made the Twilight movies there. The weather also sucks. The bedroom it is, then.
No wait! The indie destination you seek does exist. It's Austin, Texas.
Why Austin? Well there's the films, for a start. Starting with that meandering paean to aimlessness that is Richard Linklater's Slacker.

The fourth installment of the Spy Kids is coming, and lovely Jessica Alba is in talks to star in it!
Robert Rodriguez, who wrote and directed each of the previous three films in the series, is in charge for the 3D film titled Spy Kids 4: All the Time in the World, which will be a reboot of the franchise.
Alba is lined up to play a retired spy in the reboot of the franchise, which originally starred Antonio Banderas and Carla Gugino, and she is in negotiations to play “the mother of a baby and two older stepchildren who reactivates her spy career.”
The films also starred Alexa Vega and Daryl Sabara as the children of superspy parents (Banderas and Gugino), and it’s expected that all of them will return in supporting roles.
Of course, the actors cast as the stepchildren will be the new Spy Kids.

Three big films this Labor Day weekend. "Going the Distance" for romantic lovers, "Machete" for action buffs, and "The American" for the brooding, subdued Clooney fans.
"Going the Distance"
Real-life former lovers or are they still dating? It doesn't matter because for now Justin Long and Drew Barrymore can re-live their relationship right up there on the big screen in the new film "Going the Distance."
The pair looks soooo cute together as a couple who try to keep their love alive. Geography is their main problem -- she's on the west coast, he's on the east.
It's no wonder documentarian Nanette Burstein directed this film. She probably wanted to document the love affair between Long and Barrymore but this is her first feature film and it shows. The movie is sometimes clumsy, the pacing is a little off but "Going the Distance" is still better than most romantic comedies as of late.

From its mass murderous macabre opening, to its bloody, sex laced and blatantly explosive ending, Machete delivers one potent, thought provoking, and tantalizingly delicious adrenaline ride.
Thought provoking? We’ll get to that in a minute. The film follows Machete Cortez, an on the edge cop – hell bent on bringing down Torrez, a notorious drug dealer and crime lord. Double-crossed by his fellow men in uniform and forced to watch the execution of his wife and unborn child – you start to understand his motivation for revenge. After being left for dead and somehow surfacing year’s later, he gets embroiled in a plot designed to bolster a local bigoted politician while simultaneously leading a revolution to fight the illegal and immoral ways the United States borders are policed and controlled. All of this while maneuvering through a bevy of women who all want him, despite his looks, which border on ‘rugged’ to be kind.

A New international trailer and a couple of images have been sent over for upcoming action flick Machete.
It stars Danny Trejo as a man who earns that street name by carrying no fewer than 44 blades in his custom-made leather vest.
While most film fans believe the project was born in a now-legendary fake trailer made by Robert Rodriguez as part of his and Quentin Tarantino's 2007 B-movie tribute Grindhouse, the idea was actually conceived years before.
In the early 1990s, when Rodriguez was prepping his second motion picture Desperado, he thought the time was right for a Latin movie hero, which he codenamed Machete. When Danny Trejo arrived on set, Rodriguez knew he was ideal for the part.
Much later, the fake Machete trailer created a tremendous response and, finally, Rodriguez committed to a feature film version. He honed the screenplay with co-writer Alvaro Rodriguez, brought in Ethan Maniquis as co-director,...

She's been hot on the adult content of late, but as Jessica Alba's little girl grows up, perhaps its time she makes some movies for her progeny to watch. So she's hooked up with her Sin City and Machete director, Robert Rodriguez to go undercover for Spy Kids 4: All the Time in the World.
Alba will play a retired spy who is mum to two pre-teens who will play the new leads, since Alexa Vega and Daryl Sabara are a little too grown up to be considered Spy Kids now, although they might still appear for a bit alongside Antonio Banderas in a cameo role.
The new heroes' adversary will be the malevolent Time Keeper, out to stop time, as only a kids' film villain could do. But time doesn't stand still for the busy director, who plans to kick off proceedings in Austin, Texas in late September.

Jessica Alba could be set to star in the fourth film in the "Spy Kids" franchise. The actress, who recently signed up to star alongside Owen Wilson and Ben Stiller in "Little Fockers", is said to be in talks with producers to play a retired spy in "Spy Kids 4: All the Time in the World".
"Spy Kids" originally starred Alexa Vega and Daryl Sabara as the children of spy parents. However, with the original actors no longer children, director Robert Rodriguez has made the decision to revamp the entire franchise, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Jessica, 29, will be playing the mother of a baby and two pre-teen stepchildren, who will be the new Spy Kids. The role of her character's husband, a "nerdy" investigative reporter, as well as the film's villain, are still waiting to be filled. Jessica Alba is set to work together with Robert Rodriguez again. The actress, who has starred in Rodriguez-directed "Sin City", is in negotiation to join the cast line up for "Spy Kids 4: All the Time in the World", The Hollywood Reporter (THR) states.
Alba will be seen as a retired spy who has been reactivated. Her character is a mother of a baby and two preteen stepchildren. These preteens will be the new Spy Kids but the actors who will tackle the roles have not been cast. Other characters that will appear in the new "Spy Kids" movie include Alba's husband, a slightly nerdy investigative reporter, and the villain, known as the Time Keeper, whose goal is to stop time.

Can’t get enough of the crazy Mexican named Machete? No worries, homes, IGN‘s got you covered with a Red Band trailer featuring the world’s most pissed off Mexican as he slashes, guts, decapitates, and growls his way through a sea of gringo bad guys. By the by, I love the fact that Steven Seagal seems to be totally into his role, probably a first in what, 10 years? And if it’s not obvious by now, Jessica Alba is once again playing a “risque” role by being very safe. I mean, who the hell wears underwear in the shower? Of course, she did play a stripper who never stripped in “Sin City”, so there you go. After a violent shakedown from a notorious drug lord nearly kills him, Machete, a renegade Mexican Federale and tough-as-nails vigilante for justice, roams the streets of Texas, working as a day laborer.

Aside from the shenanigans at the Taco Truck, Robert Rodriguez showed a montage of sorts for his upcoming flick Machete, and we've got the lowdown on what you missed!
The festivities commenced with Robert addressing the crowd in attendance and talking a little bit about the film's casting.
Raised by five women, Rodriguez takes every opportunity to cast strong women in strong women roles. Casting Danny Trejo was a no-brainer because according to Rodriguez, "There is no badder Mexican to wield the knives." The filmmaker also divulged that he had the idea for Machete around sixteen years ago and even back then told Danny, "If we don't have the technology, we'll invent it."
So what did you miss ... Our man Nomad called in with the complete rundown.
Michelle Rodriguez does some crazy voodoo shit with an egg on Machete to heal him; turns into a classic sex scene of the two getting it on.

So what did you miss ... Our man Nomad called in with the complete rundown.
Michelle Rodriguez does some crazy voodoo shit with an egg on Machete to heal him; turns into a classic sex scene of the two getting it on.

There are a lot of cool things happening this week at the San Diego Comic-Con, but by far one of the coolest just landed in our inbox: a chance to eat tacos served by Robert Rodriguez and several cast members from Machete, followed by an outdoor screening of exclusive Sdcc footage from the film and a party that's open to the public on a first-come, first-served basis.
The details of the July 22nd event can be found in the below invite, which you can print out and redeem for a free taco, but that's not even all! Rodriguez has recorded a special greeting just for the Comic-Con fans.
Machete stars Jessica Alba (Sin City), Robert De Niro, Michelle Rodriguez (Fast & Furious), Lindsay Lohan (Mean Girls), Cheech Marin (Once Upon a Time in Mexico), Jeff Fahey ("Lost"), Don Johnson, Steven Seagal (Under Siege), and of course Danny Trejo as the lead character.

We don't know why, but we're really loving us some Lohan lately. Maybe it was the look of disbelief at her sentencing, or maybe it's residual love left over from the freak fest I Know Who Killed Me, but she's way on our radar! A new still of her handling some hardware in the flick Machete has surfaced, and we're happy to bring you every inch of it!
The film stars Jessica Alba (Sin City), Robert De Niro, Michelle Rodriguez (Fast & Furious), Lindsay Lohan (Mean Girls), Cheech Marin (Once Upon a Time in Mexico), Jeff Fahey ("Lost"), Don Johnson, Steven Seagal (Under Siege), and of course Danny Trejo as the lead character. Look for it in theatres September 3rd, 2010.

Personally, I think 20th Century Fox saved the best Machete poster for last. It could be because Lindsay Lohan gives me a warm and fuzzy feeling inside, but this actor-centric poster is currently set as my desktop background. Come on in and revel in its blasphemous glory!
While Lindsay was nowhere to be seen in last week's brand new Machete trailer, the New York Daily News is reporting that 20th Century Fox released Lohan's poster after she was left out of the latest promotional material.
I'm not sure it's entirely fair to say that she was removed from the trailer as a result of her jail sentence - isn't her part little more than a glorified cameo, after all? But I'm loving the exploitation vibe this one gives off - definitely more than any other of the femme fatale posters. You can bet I'll be keeping my eyes peeled for...
