If there’s one thing Eboni K. Williams knows how to do, it’s finding the best ways to balance the good, the bad and the messy. As the “Real Housewives” alum embarks on her latest endeavor as the head of her own courtroom TV show — “Equal Justice With Judge Eboni K. Williams,” which premieres in syndication on Sept. 11 — she explores why America needs her unfiltered legal opinions.
Williams, a former public defender turned political pundit and reality star, previously made history as the first Black cast member to join “The Real Housewives of New York City” in Season 13, a season that lives on in infamy. Now 40, Williams becomes the youngest judge in the daytime syndicated TV space — and, while the space is its own beast, it’s one she’s excited to conquer.
But make no mistake, Williams, who also hosts the “Holding Court” podcast, hasn’t completely walked...

Roku is getting into the daytime talk show space — sort of. Starting December 1, the Roku Channel will stream full episodes of “The Jennifer Hudson Show,” a Warner Bros. and Telepictures syndicated series, the day after they air on linear television. The deal makes Roku the exclusive streaming home to the Egot winner’s new talk series; all previously aired episodes of the show are now available to stream for free on The Roku Channel.
Hudson’s talk show, a mix of celebrity interviews, topical stories, community heroes, viral sensations, and yes, music, has been a pretty strong freshman performer. Among the six new syndicated strips in their first run, “The Jennifer Hudson Show” is a close second to “Sherri,” averaging a 0.6 household rating versus Sherri Shepherd’s 0.7, according to Nielsen data. Shepherd, an alum of “The View,” basically took over for Wendy Williams last season and launched her own new show this fall.

Orion Television is set to distribute “Couples Court” in 73 percent of the country this fall, so you should probably get to know what the heck it is. Legal experts and trial attorneys Dana and Keith Cutler will become the first-ever married couple to preside over a television courtroom, one in which couples come to share their stories of cheating. The husband and wife presiders have been married and practicing law together for nearly 30 years, if readers were wondering about their qualifications. Speaking of legitimacy, the half-hour, year-round weekday syndicated strip hails from David Armour (“Lauren Lake’s Paternity Court,” pictured above). Produced.

Paternity tests have become a major part of daytime talk shows like Maury — which is why it was probably inevitable that a show would come along that merged the popular courtroom genre with babies, mamas and the men who may or may not be the father. The syndicated series Paternity Court (check local listings) follows family lawyer Lauren Lake as she administers DNA tests and rules on paternity cases. When you hear the title "Paternity Court," it's easy to think of those chair-throwing moments on "Maury" and cringe -- something host Lauren Lake knows all too well.
Howver, the nationally syndicated program, which airs on 140 stations nationwide and is currently #1 in the ratings in the freshman category, beating "Bethenny," "The Queen Latifah Show" and "The Arsenio Hall Show," deviates from the "Maury" model by helping litigants resolve legal issues involving paternity in a manner that respects them, rather than turning them into a spectacle -- a course of action that Lake, an attorney and legal advisor who's regularly contributed to shows like "The View," "Good Morning America" and "Today," tells Zap2it.com was necessary in her taking the job.
It was not only a conscious decision, it was a condition. I would've not been a part of a project that didn't represent families and children well. My entire...
