Born in 1971 in Orlando, Florida. The only son of Dianne and James Guess. His nationalities are Irish, Italian and English. A New York Football Giants fan since 1978, first game ever watched was Miracle In The Meadowlands. As a kid held boxing matches in his basement with local kids being inspired by his favorite movie character Rocky Balboa. Realizing he could never take a beating like Rocky and wouldn't be the heavyweight champ, he turned that passion towards his love of films. He also shook hands with President Clinton on CSPAN in 1996. In 2008, history repeated itself when he shook hand and spoke to then Candidate Barack Obama. Guess is also the cousin of solo recording artist, Playbill's Top 10 artist of 2006 and Greenwhich Village musical staple Marc McBarron Kessler.

In 2002, started Guess Films, a boutique film studio that would share ownership with his family. His five films made on limited budgets are Cut, Trapped In Jersey, At The Movies, Fans Anonymous and Nothing For Christmas. He grew up idolizing Oliver Stone, Spike Lee and Sylvester Stallone. His Screenwriting has been compared to Larry David, Kevin Smith and Sylvester Stallone. Early influences on him include Rocky, DC Cab, It's A Wonderful Life and his favorite film Danny Aiello's 29th Street. He calls himself a die hard fan of Rankin and Bass since he was 4 years old. Guess proudly states that Santa Claus Is Coming To Town was his earliest influence and believes that love of that story is why he is a screenwriter today.

He was inspired in 2004 by Robert Rodriguez's book Rebel Without a Crew and his film El Mariachi when he shot Cut. His first four films used the central lesson of using locations that are easily available and using all ranges of talent from first timers to seasoned professionals as long as they have talent and are high energy on screen. Guess has worked with actors such as As The World Turns and Rescue Me's Frank Thon and former child actress on Saturday Night Live Mackenzie English And Dante Peaks George Jefferies. He also has discovered F/Xs 30 Days Reality star and NY lottery's Lots of Luck Christopher Jobin. In addition many actors he has worked with went on to work in commercials, including Aqua Globe actress Cathi Atwater, B& H actor Bob Cleary and Air Condition Council's Erin Dieghan.

Guess, who is permanently disabled has been bipolar and treated since the age of 22. He is a very strong supporter of individuals and organizations that help those with mental illness. More recently Guess also struggles with diabetes and has decreased his schedule slightly because of the condition which hospitalized him twice in 2008.
