A record impresario turns a swank LP listening party into a diatribe party. When he stomps on the latest record he planned to launch, Cree (Kayne Lee Harrison) also crushes the dreams of singer Erica Wilson (singer-songwriter Christina Milian stars as the thwarted recording artist). A year earlier, Erica’s boyfriend of four years did some crushing figuratively when he pulled up stakes before their wedding. (Her unused gown gets repurposed for what was supposed to be her breakout pop-music moment.)
We get that backstory when Erica and her bestie Amber (Tymberlee Hill) are sitting outside after the industry debacle and Erica hears strains of Alicia Keys’ soulfully anthemic “No One” being played by a couple of buskers. The Keys tune (the singer is a producer here) was to have been their first-dance-as-newlyweds song. Cue more ugly crying. In the routine if enjoyable “Resort to Love” (on Netflix), there’s...

NBC has announced the fate of two bubble shows, and it's not good news.
The Peacock network has canceled Lincoln Rhyme and Perfect Harmony after their freshman runs.
Lincoln Rhyme starred Grimm's Russell Hornsby as the titular criminal profiler, who became paralyzed after a run-in with a serial murderer known as The Bone Collector years before the series started.
When The Bone Collector became active again, Lincoln was called back into service, with his police partner Amelia (played by The Vampire Diaries' Arielle Kebbel) playing his right hand in the quest to find and take down the killer.
Across its 10-episode run, Lincoln Rhyme averaged a 0.5 demo rating and 3.7 million total viewers. These were decent numbers for Friday, so the series was thought to be in the running for a renewal.
Unfortunately, the delayed ratings were not as strong as NBC had hoped, and that is likely to blame for...

The Bradley Whitford comedy “Perfect Harmony” and Russell Hornsby-led drama “Lincoln Rhyme: Hunt for the Bone Collector” have been canceled at NBC after one season apiece, an individual familiar with the situation tells TheWrap.

The freshman comedy “Perfect Harmony” and the freshman drama “Lincoln Rhyme: Hunt for the Bone Collector” have both been canceled at NBC, Variety has learned from sources.
“Perfect Harmony” wrapped its one and only season in January, while “Lincoln Rhyme” ended in March.
NBC declined to comment.
The cancellations come as networks and studios are grappling with how to proceed with the fall season in the wake of the production shutdown caused by the coronavirus pandemic. NBC had already renewed a number of its current shows prior to the shutdown, including “This Is Us,” “New Amsterdam,” all three “Chicago” shows, and “Law & Order: Svu.”
NBC and ABC have not yet released their fall schedules, while Fox, The CW, and CBS have. The CW and Fox are relying heavily on acquired programming and shows held from this season. CBS thus far is the only broadcaster to commit to airing its normal fall lineup.

'Tis the season to live vicariously. Visiting Schitt's Creek never felt as convenient as just browsing through the memorable photos from the VIP event that dropped in Los Angeles recently.
For those that may have missed the news, Los Angeles and New York fans have the lucky pleasure of celebrating the holiday season with a special immersive experience for the show.
An interactive setting was created by Pop TV for all Schitt's Creek fans to enjoy, which includes recreated sets, photo experiences, giveaways and more.
It was so in demand that tickets opened up and sold out within minutes. Twice.
Fans weren't kidding around when they showed their appreciation for all things related to the Rose family, all leading up to the upcoming premiere of the final season for the show.
But obviously, not all fans got the chance to visit the La pop up, especially for fans that live outside of the two cities.

With fewer than 25 minutes to introduce a compelling story and cast of characters, the makers of broadcast-network comedy pilots have one of the hardest jobs in television. It’s no wonder, then, that so many turn to familiar shortcuts and archetypes in order to get through all the necessary exposition as quickly as possible. The trick is finding ways to intrigue beyond the basics and show some hint of unique personality, besides. “Perfect Harmony,” NBC’s new comedy about a scrappy church choir entering the competitive circuit, acquits itself pretty well by the end of its first episode — especially because it somehow speeds through enough plot to fuel an entire season of “Glee” (the most obvious reference point for “Perfect Harmony”).

Perfect Harmony is NBC’s new musical comedy series about a rural church choir that gets the director it never thought it needed when a salty, Ivy League music professor (played by Bradley Whitford) stumbles through their door.
Show creator and executive producer Lesley Wake Webster spoke on the personal inspiration behind the series during NBC’s presentation at the TCA press tour.
“I grew up singing in church choirs, going to church. My grandfather, who Bradley’s character was modeled on, was a choir director by trade… at the end of his life, he was living in rural Kentucky, my grandmother had passed away, and he got to a very dark place,” Webster shared.

NBC has wrapped up its new series orders, picking up single-camera choir comedy Perfect Harmony, starring and executive produced by Bradley Whitford, from 20th Century Fox TV; multi-camera multi-generational family comedy Indebted (fka Uninsured), co-starring Fran Drescher, from Sony TV; and drama Lincoln, headlined by Russell Hornsby, also from Sony TV. Lincoln, based on the Bone Collector novel, will be a co-production with Universal TV.
The late pickup for Perfect Harmony, Indebted and Lincoln does not necessarily reflect their standings in the NBC pilots pecking order as all had enjoyed internal support. But the projects comes from outside studios, leading to the inevitable last-minute tussle with the network over digital rights (comedies) and ownership/distribution (dramas).
Both 20th TV and Sony TV already have popular drama series on NBC, This Is Us, which is eying a multi-season renewal, and The Blacklist, already renewed for next season.

Tracee Ellis Ross is one funny actress -- as she proves week to week playing Dr. Rainbow “Bow” Johnson on the ABC series Black-ish, created by Kenya Barris. It’s a role that goes beyond the traditional tropes of a family sitcom, allowing Ross to explore what it means to be a woman, a wife and a doctor in a fresh way. “It is still very groundbreaking to me,” she tells Et. “There’s a traditional way that we’ve seen women be written for and I think this is very different.”
The show, which found its footing in season two and has continued to top itself early in season three, has also earned Ross her first of many major accolades, including nominations for two Critics’ Choice Television Awards, an Emmy Award and a Golden Globe Award. “It’s like day-old leftovers that get better on day two, like chili gets better. Wednesday’s Broad City season finale managed to achieve the impossible: It actually made us wish a flight was longer.
Unfortunately, our in-flight entertainment came, as it so often does, at Abbi and Ilana’s expense. Just when they finally managed to get seats next to each other — there was still one guy between them, but he was actually dead, so it’s all good — Abbi was visited by the Period Fairy. But because her Drew Barrymore-approved bag had been checked against its will, she found herself up a creek without a paddle tampon.

Johnny Depp is having a yuuuuuuuge day. He was just revealed to be starring in Universal's "The Invisible Man" movie, but first you can see him as the very visible Donald Trump in the 50-minute Funny or Die movie, "The Art of the Deal."
Depp and a dozen other major celebs shot this back in December, and it's being presented now as a "lost film" directed by Trump himself in the 1980s, based on his own 1987 advice book. The "TV movie" starts with an intro from Ron Howard, and includes appearances from Alfred Molina, Robert Morse, Patton Oswalt, Jack McBrayer, Michaela Watkins, Henry Winkler, Stephen Merchant, Christopher Lloyd, Kristen Schaal, Andy Richter, Paul Scheer, Rob Huebel, Tymberlee Hill, Alf, Jordan Coleman, Joe Nuñez, and Jeremy Konner.

Sitcoms, like every other TV genre, start off with something Buzzy and Conceptual to grab audience attention, before jettisoning it, to some extent, to get down to the business of what the show is actually about. Which, more often than not in sitcom-land, is the dating misadventures of a group of friends in a large city.
Marry Me, the NBC sitcom about a long-term couple about to get engaged, fits this mold. It was created by David Caspe and stars Casey Wilson, who previously worked together on Happy Endings, a fantastic ABC comedy that ran for three seasons before getting cancelled. One reason this former effort never quite garnered viewing momentum was that it took too long to move past the initial Big Concept; the series was ostensibly about the will-they-won’t-they of formerly engaged couple Dave and Alex, who in the pilot fail to get married when Alex (Elisha Cuthbert...

Though the ratings could be better, NBC doesn't want to break up with their new sitcom Marry Me. The peacock network has ordered five additional episodes, bringing the first season tally to 18 installments.
On the Marry Me sitcom, easy-going Jake (Ken Marino) and high-strung Annie (Casey Wilson) have been together for six years. They're ready to be married but their road to the altar is anything but smooth. The rest of the cast includes Sarah Wright Olsen, John Gemberling, Tymberlee Hill, and Tim Meadows.
On October 14th, Marry Me debuted to a 2.3 rating with 7.54 million viewers. It was a positive start for the sitcom, likely due in part to airing after NBC's biggest series, The Voice. The ratings have been falling ever since however. Last night's episode hit a new low with a 1.3 demo rating and 4.54 million.
