Savannah Guthrie said she was “devastated” when she lost a job, which she felt was her “big break” in journalism.
It was years before she worked as a co-anchor and chief legal correspondent on NBC News and NBC’s Today.
Her educational background includes a Bachelor of Arts in journalism from the University of Arizona and a Juris Doctor from Georgetown University Law Center.
Savannah’s jobs have included working as a litigation associate, a trial correspondent for CourtTV, and a correspondent for NBC News.
In addition, Guthrie is a bestselling author, having just released her latest book, Mostly What God Does.
She’s worked with NBC News since 2007, but she revealed a field reporter job she held 25 years before that left her worried about her career choice.

Savannah Guthrie seems to be growing tired of everything that happens behind the scenes at NBC. The Today co-anchor has been making her rounds on talk shows to discuss her new book and it looks like it might be her first step away from the network. Keep reading to see what she revealed during her chat with Stephen Colbert.
Savannah Guthrie Addresses Ronna McDaniel Situation
The Today star sat down with Stephen Colbert on The Late Show. During their conversation, Savannah Guthrie briefly addressed Ronna McDaniel’s scandal at NBC.
Ronna was fired from the network just one week after being brought on. She was the former Republican National Committee chairwoman and, evidently, there was an “internal revolt” at her being hired.
Instagram/Savannah Guthrie
When asked about the situation, Savannah Guthrie said that she would tell Stephen the “inside scoop,” but maintained that it was a pretty boring story.

[This story contains spoilers from season 12, episode nine of Curb Your Enthusiasm, “Ken/Kendra.”]
Life imitated art again with the latest Curb Your Enthusiasm. Or, if you ask show boss Jeff Schaffer, “life imitated silly art.”
The silly art he is referring to is when Curb‘s Larry David (played by the real Larry David) gave Bruce Springsteen Covid-19, forcing him to cancel his music tour. Springsteen had made a brief cameo earlier in the season in the “Lawn Jockey” episode, where the Boss praised Larry for becoming a liberal hero after he (unknowingly) stood up against a Georgia 2021 voting law that makes it illegal to provide food or water to voters in line at the polls.
“That’s Larry David’s middle name: Larry ‘Involvement’ David,” said Springsteen on CNN when making his first Curb cameo.
Now, in the ninth episode of season 12 — the penultimate episode before the Emmy-winning HBO comedy’s series finale this weekend — Springsteen returns.

Puppeteers working to bring Jim Henson’s Fraggle Rock to life are speaking out about that moment when, on the Today show in February, comic actor Larry David physically attacked beloved Sesame Street favorite Elmo live on-air.
At a press event for the release of Apple TV’s Fraggle Rock: Back to the Rock this week, The Hollywood Reporter caught up with puppeteers John Tartaglia (puppeteer for Gobo Fraggle) and Dan Garza (puppeteer for Junior Gorg), who said they were taken aback by David’s unplanned attack on the puppet, which they said could be potentially dangerous for puppeteers.
“You know, there was a person’s hand inside of there and that wasn’t a pretty planned thing. And so the puppeteer in me was like, ‘Oh my god, that’s super dangerous. Like, you just grabbed someone’s hand and twisted it,’” Tartaglia said, confirming that ultimately the puppeteer was Ok.

Harry Smith is moving on. After 12 years at NBC News, veteran correspondent Smith is leaving the network and will begin teaching at his alma mater this fall.
Smith received an emotional farewell send-off Friday from Today show anchors Hoda Kotb, Craig Melvin, Sheinelle Jones, Al Roker and Savannah Guthrie. The show played A Look Back video of his work over the years after which he received a standing ovation from his Today show colleagues.
Smith narrated the five-minute video, concluding by saying: “And it all seems like it happened yesterday.”
“I have nothing but gratitude,” Smith said. “Every time I would always come on this show, I was always welcomed so generously. I’ve had just this unbelievable array of phenomenal experiences since coming to NBC, and so I’m really full of nothing but gratitude. Every time I’ve come on, everyone would drop their phones, pay attention to the story and then respond.

One of the benefits of hosting any sort of news or discussion program on TV is an authorization to talk. Now some TV journalists and personalities are also being given permission to bite.
NBCUniversal needs to get out the proverbial Bactine after being savaged earlier this week by many of its top news personalities over the hire made by NBC News executives of former Republican National Committee chair Ronna McDaniel. McDaniel was, until Wednesday, to have been a prominent political-news analyst weighing in on topics as the 2024 presidential election drew close. But the prospect of paying someone who had openly tried to help former President Donald Trump discredit the results of the 2020 election raised the internal alarms of many NBC News anchors and many of them — including Joe Scarborough, Joy Reid, Rachel Maddow and Nicolle Wallace — took significant time on Monday to push back against the decision, with Maddow spending...

Hoda and Jenna aired on Wednesday, March 27, but after a bit of time, Hoda Kotb disappeared from the show, requiring someone else to step into the gap. At the time, there was no explanation as to why the Today talk show’s co-host left, but there are a few things that might have needed her attention.
Hoda Kotb & Jenna Bush Hager Got A Stand-In Co-Host
Sometimes, the co-hosts on Today need time for either personal recreation or important reasons. However, if they go away, they often announce it before departure. Actually, Hoda was away recently, taking a nice break. So something else must have popped up. However, she also runs the Making Spaces podcast, and on March 27, she talked on social media about interviewing author Arthur Brooks. So perhaps she left Hoda and Jenna early for that.

Ronna McDaniel was supposed to be the new star contributor at NBC News. Now her position there is looking increasingly untenable.
NBC News hired the former Republican National Committee chief last week, betting that her recent access to the Trump campaign and Republican politicians would make her a valuable analyst as the 2024 election cycle intensified. But in recent days, her ability to do just that seems unclear. On Monday, Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski suggested on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” that NBC News reconsider its hire. A day earlier, Chuck Todd took to “Meet The Press” to chastise NBC News bosses for making moderator Kristen Welker conduct a news interview she had previously booked with McDaniel now that she was a paid operative of NBC and potentially less able to respond truthfully to hard questions.
It seems very likely that her position at NBC will remain in the news for the immediate future.

Savannah Guthrie and Dylan Dreyer have become familiar faces on NBC’s Today, appearing on the morning program and Third Hour.
However, they were noticeably absent from the latest episodes of the NBC lineup, which might have surprised viewers.
When Today arrived on Friday, viewers saw stars such as Craig Melvin, Sheinelle Jones, Hoda Kotb, and Al Roker appearing in various segments.
Until this week, Roker had been absent from Today because he was vacationing with his son in a warm and sunny location.
Dylan replaced Roker during his absence, but she was abruptly absent from the lineup on Friday.
In addition, Savannah was missing again following a recent book tour that took her around the country.
Dylan Dreyer misses Today amid significant event
Like Roker recently vacationed with family, so did his fellow meteorologist and show host. With spring break underway for many families, Dylan enjoyed an adventure with some of her family.

NBCUniversal is testing a new game for the Paris Olympics.
The Comcast-backed media conglomerate has for years launched every Summer Games with primetime coverage of the Opening Ceremonies that typically feature a top sportscaster like Mike Tirico or Bob Costas alongside a popular news anchor such as Savannah Guthrie or Katie Couric. In 2024, the company is blowing up the format.
Kelly Clarkson and Peyton Manning will co-host the glitzy launch of NBC’s17 days of Olympics coverage alongside Tirico, with Guthrie and her “Today” co-host Hoda Kotb reporting on the spectacle — a parade of boats on the River Seine — along the route. The move adds some celebrity power to the broadcast at a time when more TV networks are trying to broaden the appeal of their sports portfolios and lure new crowds to games and contests of all sorts — and amortize the costly rights fees required to show them in the process.

In the pre-coverage of Joe Biden’s State of the Union address, the speech is being billed as the most important of his presidency, what with his dismal approval numbers and what is shaping up to be very difficult campaign for reelection.
Moreover, so much attention has been paid to the president’s age — at 81, he is the first octogenarian on a major party ticket — that any kind of slip up will be seized upon by his rivals.
Then again, Biden’s most memorable moment last year was an exchange with House Republicans over Social Security, showing that the president had command of the stage. That’s why it’ll be interesting to see if GOP members restrain themselves so as to not give the president the opportunity this year.

The suspense this Super Tuesday may be in watching how all of the networks try to make the night suspenseful.
Some 16 states and one territory will vote: Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Maine, Massachusetts, Minnesota, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont and Virginia. A Democratic caucus also is being held in American Samoa, and Iowa Democrats also will reveal their results.
But with Joe Biden and Donald Trump on their way to a rematch in the 2024 presidential election, coverage Tuesday will focus on margins of victory, when each candidate will clinch their nomination and what’s next from now until Election Day. There also will be attention to down-ballot races, including California’s Senate primary to fill the seat long held by Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-ca).

Hoda Kotb has revealed that the hit morning show is upgrading its dressing rooms.
“We are [upgrading them]!” Kotb said.
The 57-year-old shared the news with Page Six at the fifth anniversary of her co-host Jenna Bush Hager’s book club, Read with Jenna.
Hager was on hand to offer her two cents on the imminent upgrade.
“We have four words for you: lipstick on a pig,” she joked.
“Just some wallpaper, some nice fake flowers,” Hager added.
Kelly Rowland reportedly walked off the show after asking for a different dressing room
For those uninitiated, the drama about the show’s dressing rooms started last month when Kelly Rowland reportedly stormed off the show’s set due to her being unhappy with the dressing room she was given.

Kelly Rowland’s new movie with Tyler Perry received criticism following her recent drama on the Today show.
Earlier this month, Rowland appeared in what some called an awkward interview by Savannah Guthrie. She was then rumored to have stormed off the show due to her dressing room situation.
While on Today, Rowland promoted her Netflix movie Mea Culpa, which Tyler Perry Studios produced.
She and Perry are also producers on the film alongside Will Areu and Angi Bones.
The movie officially arrived on the streaming platform last Friday and has received poor feedback.
That included a low overall aggregate score from critics and viewers on the popular Rotten Tomatoes website.
In addition, some viewers have expressed their strong opinions about the film to Rowland on her social media.

Kelly Rowland isn’t ready to spill the beans about what happened behind the scenes of the Today show earlier this month.
As Monsters and Critics previously reported, the actress and singer was interviewed on the morning show about her new movie, Mea Culpa, which premiered Friday, February 23, on Netflix.
Despite being scheduled to return to the show later in the morning alongside Hoda Kotb, she was Mia, and Rita Ora was drafted in at the last minute to replace her.
At the time, there were conflicting reports about whether Rowland walked off the show over the size of a dressing room or Savannah Guthrie’s questions about Beyonce.
In a new interview promoting Mea Culpa on WGN News in Chicago, anchor Dean Richards noted the countless articles on the internet, with various takes on what went down.
The former Destiny’s Child star shut him down when asked to clear up what happened.

In a gesture of goodwill, Today Show host Hoda Kotb expressed her affection for singer Kelly Rowland in an attempt to mend any rift that may have arisen between them. Last week, Rowland withdrew from her guest-hosting duties on Today with Hoda & Jenna amid reports of an alleged behind-the-scenes disagreement over her dressing room.
In a joint appearance with co-host Jenna Bush Hager, Kotb took a moment to publicly acknowledge her fondness for Rowland. “I just want to say this – I have great love and admiration for Kelly Rowland,” she said. “I adore her, and I want her to come back on our show, and I want her to host again.”
Hager swiftly chimed in with the affirmation that they loved her and Rowland was “always welcome.”

Viewers witnessed a tearful moment for Today host Savannah Guthrie in her return to the show after a brief absence.
She appeared on NBC’s morning program last week and had what some deemed a “disrespectful” segment with Today guest Kelly Rowland.
Rowland later stormed off the show due to rumors she and her team felt the dressing rooms weren’t adequate.
The singer and actress were there to promote her newest movie, Mea Culpa, and she was also scheduled to guest host with Hoda Kotb for part of Today’s lineup. Since Rowland took off, Hoda was left scrambling to find another co-host.
Meanwhile, Savannah stepped away from the show to promote her newest book, Mostly What God Does. That included an absence last week and again on Monday.
During her return this week, she fought back tears while opening up about her book.

Singer Kelly Rowland’s recent appearance on Today ended shorter than expected as she stormed off due to unsuitable dressing room conditions.
The actress and singer appeared on the show to promote her new movie Mea Culpa and was part of an interview with Today’s Savannah Guthrie.
While some felt part of that interview was “disrespectful,” sources indicated that wasn’t why Rowland abruptly left the show.
After appearing during the 8 a.m. portion of Today, Rowland was going to stick around as a replacement for Jenna Bush Hager on Today with Hoda & Jenna.
However, sources said that Rowland was unhappy with her dressing room conditions, leading to her dramatic departure earlier than expected.
“Kelly and her team were not happy. They did not like the dressing room, so they decided to pull her off the show, leaving [Kotb] without a guest host for the 10 a.m. hour,” the source said,...

As NBC’s morning program arrived, viewers saw a recognizable replacement in Savannah’s spot.
Craig Melvin, who often appears on Today, was seated between Hoda Kotb and Sheinelle Jones.

The NBC anchor recently received some backlash for an interview segment she did with singer and actress Kelly Rowland.
Some online critics deemed part of the interview “disrespectful” as Savannah attempted to get Rowland to answer a specific question.

An interview with the U.S. President in the hours before the Super Bowl has become a tradition in recent decades. Now that custom seems to be in danger of dying out.
President Joe Biden will not take part in an exchange during the pre-game festivities leading up to CBS’ broadcast of Super Bowl Lviii on February 11, CBS News confirmed. The Paramount Global news operation had been in discussions with the White House in recent weeks. Details about which correspondent might have been eyed for the assignment could not be learned, but the CBS News offer was believed to have been for a 15-minute interview, three or four minutes of which would have aired during the network’s pre-game coverage.
This will mark the second year in a row that President Biden has turned down the opportunity, which typically draws an audience of tens of millions, even in the hours before kickoff.

Larry David is walking back the on-air apology he issued to Sesame Street’s Elmo Monster after the comic actor throttled and beat the Muppet on NBC’s Today earlier Thursday.
Appearing on Late Night With Seth Meyers, the Curb Your Enthusiasm star explained what motivated his attack on the beloved furry little monster, who was appearing before David on the morning show, alongside his father, Louie, to discuss well-being resources offered by Sesame Street. But in a shocking and — given the camera cuts and surprised looks of hosts Craig Melvin, Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb — seemingly unplanned moment, the high-pitched, 3 1/2-year-old Muppet’s segment was interrupted by David, who had apparently had enough of Elmo’s disquisition.
“Elmo was talking. I was waiting to be interviewed,” David explained to Meyers. “And Elmo was (in Elmo voice) going on about mental health. And I had to listen to every word.

Larry David’s viral attack on Elmo became the focal point of his visit later in the day to “Late Night With Seth Meyers,” where the host grilled David on answers for what would make a person want to attack the beloved “Sesame Street” character on live television. Both David and Elmo were guests on the Feb 1. edition of NBC’s “Today” when David crashed the morning show set during Elmo’s interview and throttled his face.

“Someone had to do it.”
That was the explanation given by Larry David after throttling Elmo on live television, an apparent response to the treacly sentiments of the Sesame Street character. Elmo has been much in the news for asking via X how everyone was doing. This time, he got his answer directly.
The Curb Your Enthusiasm star and Elmo were guests on the Today show Thursday when the confrontation broke out just before an Al Roker weather segment. David walked on and began vigorously choking Elmo.
Elmo was just wrapping up a segment about his viral mental health tweet when David showed him what’s up.
Hosts Hoda Kotb, Savannah Guthrie and Craig Melvin were stunned, but defended the furry red character. Guthrie told Larry he’d gone too far, and Roker said he wasn’t surprised by David’s actions.
David apologized before his segment on the upcoming Curb Your Enthusiasm season.

Elmo’s having a rough week.
First the internet trauma dumped on the Sesame Street icon after his viral post on X (formerly known as Twitter), and on Thursday morning, Larry David attacked the cheerful red puppet on live TV.
The famously curmudgeonly Curb Your Enthusiasm star was waiting for his upcoming segment to promote his HBO comedy’s final season on NBC’s Today when he seemingly surprised everyone by walking onto an unrelated live segment featuring Elmo, grabbing the puppet’s face and mock pummeling it.
“Somebody had to do it!” David cried.
The moment was purportedly unscripted, with sudden camera cuts to catch up with the action and looks on the faces of hosts Craig Melvin, Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb.
Elmo squeaked out something in reaction that sounded like, “Mr. Larry, Elmo liked you before.”
“Larry, you’ve gone too far this time,” Guthrie chastised.

Larry David was forced to issue an apology on “Today” after he spontaneously attacked Elmo live on camera. The “Curb Your Enthusiasm” creator and the “Sesame Street” icon were separate interview guests on the NBC morning show, but they had a brief crossover moment when David crashed the set and groped Elmo’s face, much to the horror of the “Today” hosts.
