Gemma Deerfield studied performing arts at London Metropolitan
University. After graduating she went on to perform on stage at the
Lion & Unicorn theatre in Kentish Town in Moliere's Imaginary Invalid
playing Angelique and The Maids at Camden's Etcetera Theatre playing
Solange; a show she also produced. For a time Gemma produced cabaret
shows before moving onto film.
Her first film role was in Alan Ronald's Jesus Versus The Messiah;
playing the female lead; Sally. She then went on to star in the short
films; Lady by the Lake and Milky Thursday later that year.
Gemma started to explore film production as well as performing and
worked on the short film Last with Paul Anderton (creator of Milky
Thursday) and the feature film Breathe with Ricci Hartnett.
Then along came the chance to play Joan of Arc and Cleopatra in
Parthenon Entertainment's award winning drama-doc series Mystery Files
which as been shown on Nat Geo and the Discovery channels both in the
UK and the USA. She was then asked back to play Amy Robsart in series 2
the following year.
Soon after she was cast in Deborah Hadfield's award winning feature;
The Kindness of Strangers and Stephen Murphey's haunting feature;
Marvin's Song where once again Gemma played the lead female role;
Polly.
She went on to collaborate on the short films Fresh Canvas and Near &
Far with 2 newcomers to the film industry; Peter Goundrill and Kieng
Ly.
Getting to work with Dave Spikey on his short Buzz Dish was terrific as
it won the Cofilmic Festival; Audience Choice Award. She also made the
short film Ella with some film students in Manchnchester which won them
a Royal Television Society award.
After a long time away Gemma returned to theatre in 2012. Gemma and the
cast of the fringe musical; A Fistful of Love by Kellie Taylor won an
award and a 5 star review for their Not Part of Festival show in the
same year.
Her latest role was the lead in the horror feature film; Amnesiac which
Gemma also produced. Distributed through Midnight Releasing this is now
available to watch.
Gemma now runs her own Media company; Fancy Pants Productions and is
developing 2 features and a TV series.
