With close to one million subscribers, Reckless Tortuga is one of the most popular sketch comedy channels on YouTube. Now, the Machinima-affiliated group is spinning off its most-watched series. The Clan, the newest entry on the Machinima Prime YouTube Original Channel, is a direct offshoot of Reckless Tortuga's The Online Gamer, following that show's main characters as they attempt to bring together a clan that can win a Call of Duty tournament. "We have been working with Machinima for awhile and we are always trying to figure out ways to do stuff together," Reckless Tortuga director Jason Schnell told Tubefilter. Two comedy projects, Fox's Don't Bring Frank and CBS' Ex Life, have been cleared for casting.
Additionally, NBC has ordered six scripts of Lipstick Jungle, and ABC's Women's Murder Club will produce three more original episodes this season after a last-minute deal with Robert Nathan to come on board as showrunner.
Casting has begun on Frank and Life.
Frank, from Sony Pictures TV and BBC Worldwide Prods., is based on the BBC comedy "Some Mothers Do ‘Ave ‘Em." It centers on Frank Spencer, an over-energetic, under-coordinated guy whose every move precipitates some form of havoc. The project, which involves a lot of physical comedy, was originally picked up by Fox in October with a script commitment that had a sizable penalty attached to it. Phil Stark penned the U.S. adaptation and is exec producing with Paul Telegdy and Ian Moffitt.
CBS first picked up Life (formerly Ex Men) as a pilot a year ago but rolled it over to this development season. Written by Rob Greenberg, it centers on Carter Thomas who, shell-shocked after being left at the altar, moves into a short-term housing complex populated primarily by divorced men.
