Animation has come a long way since its inception. The meticulous hand-drawn frames of yore have given way to digital techniques, and things like ink and paint have been replaced by Cintiq art tablets. However, one thing has remained the same: every animated work draws inspiration from something else.
Today, there are more remarkable animated shows to see than ever before. Disney and Hanna-Barbera no longer control the narrative. Now, audiences can find something to pique any interest. Shows like Amphibia and The Owl House appeal to the whimsical whims of fantasy fans. Anyone with an itch for something more mysterious can turn to Infinity Train and Gravity Falls. Regular Show’s revival is the perfect opportunity for us to learn more about High Five Ghost, a character that did not get to shine much in the original series. While a new Regular Show was revealed to be in the works in June 2024 (via Variety), not much is known about the project yet. Recently, Regular Show’s new series was rumored to be called Regular Show: The Lost Tapes. If that is indeed the title of the revival, Regular Show’s return could actually be an anthology featuring “untold stories” set during the series’ original run.
A Regular Show anthology would work perfectly considering that most episodes of the original series were standalone adventures. Apart from a few arcs, especially the ones involving Pops in the final two seasons, Regular Show was never worried about continuity and having overarching stories. This allowed the Cartoon Network hit series to play...

In an era where streaming reigns supreme and physical media feels increasingly like an afterthought, the announcement of a comprehensive DVD release for a surreal, cult-classic Cartoon Network series has collectors and fans abuzz. To their pleasant surprise, Warner Bros. Discovery and Cartoon Network unveiled plans for a Regular Show: The Complete Series DVD box set for early 2025 (per Awn). Clocking in at over 50 hours, the collector's DVD set contains each of the 245 episodes of creator Jg Quintel's quirky animated series. Regular Show ran for seven years on Cartoon Network, beloved for its wacky humor and an all-star cast. The very episodic structure of several of Cartoon Network's best TV shows recalls the nature of a classic Saturday morning cartoon, Regular Show being a perfect example. Its 244 episodes cover a series of the absurd adventures of a talking raccoon and blue jay, with wonderfully strange world-building that makes it an amazing watch that can be enjoyed in a short format.
Regular Show is also getting a highly anticipated revival which will feature at least a few members of the original cast. Many members of the prominent Regular Show main cast are noteworthy animators and storyboarders, their responsibilities on the show encompassing multiple characters and jobs. Spearheaded by a now-iconic CalArts graduate who brought some talented friends and collaborators along, Regular Show only achieved its popularity and substantial run because of its unique cast and crew.

The idea of a "Saturday morning cartoon" has long been defunct, with DVR and streaming meaning that people are rarely bound to watch the latest episode of a favored TV show at any particular time. Yet some of the best animated TV shows of all time, decidedly from the post-Saturday morning cartoon era, capture the aura of these cartoons of old. They are classically animated in 2D, mostly feel-good, very episodic, and primarily made for younger audiences.
There are options from the best animated Disney TV shows to the best animated fantasy shows that selectively nailed the feeling of a classic cartoon, on par with the greats of the Looney Tunes and Scooby-Doo. For those missing the best Saturday morning cartoons of all time, possibly enjoying them now on streaming, various networks and services have fresh new offerings. There were six Regular Show Halloween episodes, which are known collectively as "Terror Tales of the Park." Regular Show introduced the annual 30-minute specials in season 3 and has continued the tradition through its eighth and final season. Each "Terror Tales of the Park" episode is an anthology of spooky stories narrated by the main characters. It is not considered Regular Show canon, which means characters could die, and it wouldn't affect the show's regular episodes.
With the concept, Regular Show is responsible for some of Cartoon Network's creepiest episodes. While there are many brilliant episodes of Regular Show, their Halloween specials are among the most memorable. Regular Show creator James Garland Quintel was reportedly inspired by The Simpsons' "Treehouse of Horrors" Halloween episodes, so they replicated a similar format for Regular Show's "Terror Tales of the Park."

Regular Show ran for eight bizarre seasons, and a potential leak has sparked rumors about the title of the upcoming follow-up series. Regular Show's final season aired in 2017, tightly wrapping up Mordecai and Rigbys story, but the sequel in the works will bring the slackers back for what will almost certainly be even more bizarre hijinks.

Under Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav’s continued campaign of content erasure, animation fans mourn the destruction of Planet Nielsen.
In case Zaslav’s reputation among the cartoon community wasn’t low enough already, the controversial executive’s regime made a surprising and surreptitious move this week that sparked outrage across numerous online fandoms. Following the latest updates to the Max streaming library, seven Cartoon Network shows have disappeared from the premium streaming service, with Ben 10, Steven Universe, the 2016 Powerpuff Girls revival, Amazing World of Gumball, We Bare Bears, Chowder and Regular Show all pulled from service without so much as a “leaving soon” notice.
Now that the entire entertainment industry is firmly sliding on a downward slope following the peak of streaming, it seems that no TV series — no matter how beloved or endlessly quoted — is safe from the content cuts that have become company-wide policy under Zaslav’s leadership.

Mark Hamill has had a diverse acting career, from the incredibly popular Luke Skywalker of the Star Wars saga to voicing iconic villains like the Joker in Batman: The Animated Series, and Firelord Ozai in Avatar: The Last Airbender. Although he's famously said he won't voice the Joker again following Kevin Conroy's recent passing, it looks like Hamill will be returning to another beloved animated series to voice one of his iconic characters.
According to Popverse, Mark Hamill has confirmed that he will voice his character Skips in an upcoming Regular Show revival. Regular Show is an animated Cartoon Network series about a group of groundskeepers at a park. The show ran from 2010 to 2017 and its revival has recently been greenlit by Warner Bros. Animation. Hamill's immortal yeti character Skips, named after the fact that he skips instead of walking, is a fan-favorite of the series.

Instead of saving the Star Wars galaxy or terrorizing Gotham City, Mark Hamill is set to return to another beloved IP in the near future with a beloved animated sitcom. One of Cartoon Network's most bizarre and audacious shows (which is ironic given its title), Regular Show captivated audiences of all ages when it ran from 2010 to 2017. Now, Mordecai the Blue Jay (J.G. Quintel), Rigby the Racoon (William Salyers), and the rest of their groundskeeper companions are set to return for a brand-new revival, and Hamill has now confirmed that he'll be returning to the show as the grumpy yeti Skips.

Mark Hamill reveals that he will be returning to provide the voice for one of his most iconic roles. Regular Show is one of the most surreal shows to ever find a home on a network for children. The show follows two friends, Mordecai and Rigby, who work as groundskeepers in a large park. Their friends and coworkers include a gumball machine, an albino gorilla who skips everywhere, and a ghost that gives out high-fives. This barely scratches the surface of Regular Show's weirdness.
Although the finale first aired 7 years ago, Regular Show is getting rebooted. This is likely a response to the show's immense popularity on streaming platforms. Over the years, Regular Show has developed an audience well beyond its target age range. Older fans have been drawn to its surreal sense of humor and bizarre storylines. Hopefully, the reboot will be just as weird and wonderful as the show's original run.

J.G. Quintel’s new “Regular Show” and Craig McCracken’s “Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends” spin-off both feature in a new production slate from Warner Bros. Animation, Cartoon Network Studios and Hanna-Barbera Studios Europe.
Unveiled Wednesday at Annecy to an appreciative crowd at Annecy’s MIFA market, which greeted multiple shows with whoops of enthusiasm, the two new announcements join a new “Adventure Time” series, “Side Quests,” as greenlights at the Warner-owned companies.
The new slate also boasts two more “Adventure Time” shows in development, plus an unannounced Scooby-Doo project.
The big question raised by the studio’s Annecy focus is whether the surge in new shows is a temporary anomaly or marks a broader indicator of a more sustained return by Warner Bros. Discovery to fuller-on animation production after the lull of the recent past.
Certainly, news will not come much bigger at this year’s Annecy than “Adventure Time,...

The history of television is fascinating because you can trace lines between almost any modern show and one of the classics, as crews move from one show to another, bringing their past work and their influences with them. This applies to both live-action and animation. In the latter, many animators who start as writers or storyboard artists in one show end up creating their own series years later, bringing colleagues along with them, who then go on to create their own shows in return. Take "Dexter's Laboratory" launching the career of not just Genndy Tartakovsky, but also Craig McCracken, Rob Renzetti, Butch Hartman, and Seth MacFarlane, each going on to make a popular show.
What "Dexter's Laboratory" did in the '90s, "The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack" did in the late 2000s. This is a show that helped launch several animation careers, with plenty of writers and storyboard artists...

There is an intricate balance when it comes to animated performances, with animators and voice actors working together to create memorable characters. Remove one of the two elements, and you get a completely different character. Look at Mark Hamill as Joker in "Batman: The Animated Series," Dante Basco as Zuko in "Avatar: The Last Airbender," or Robin Williams as Genie in "Aladdin": These characters work because of the team of animators infusing the characters with life, and because of the unique personality the actors bring to the roles (even if Williams' casting ended up causing a whole lot of problems).

Adult Swim has always maintained a positive relationship with syndicated content. After all, its reruns of Family Guy and Futurama played a part in bringing both these shows back from the dead. Since then, Adult Swim has regularly seen the likes of Fox shows, forgotten comedies, and otherwise obscure productions filling its oddball programming schedule. It did for a while, at least. Licensing deals for multiple prominent shows are now expiring, meaning we may witness the world of streaming and cable going full circle with Adult Swim's latest schedule addition.
Ten Year Old Tom, a series formerly exclusive to Max, is now airing on Adult Swim. Granted, it was already a perfect fit for Adult Swim's lineup. Subdued improvisational comedy, limited animation, and an overall sense of eccentricity make for a perfect addition to a relaxing night of cartoons. It makes sense to do something like this, with how the...

One of the most memorable faces in horror history, Robert Englund remains a rare example of a genre actor that no director would dare to hide under a mask. Sure, his signature role as the clawed dream demon had Englund performing under several layers of intricate makeup, but it was still his iconic expressions and mannerisms that turned Freddy Krueger into a household name.
However, one of the actor’s many talents is rarely acknowledged when looking back on his decades of contributions to genre media, and that would be his penchant for villainous voice-acting. For decades now, the sultry sounds of Robert Englund have been bringing all manners of animated characters to life in cartoons and videogames. How do you be an artist in these trying times? Some of the year's best animated TV shows and movies asked this question, and it's not hard to figure out why. In 2022, animators continued fighting for respect from an industry that doesn't often love them back. Animation helped keep the entertainment industry afloat during the worst of the pandemic, and the people who bring these creations to life deserve more than seeing their projects canceled prematurely, having their work scrubbed from streaming services, and inadequate wages.
After all, while it can be crass, bloody, or just too intense for younger viewers, animation can also provide a break from a stressful world — sometimes simply by reflecting back exaggerated versions of our adult concerns. Some of the best animated productions of 2022 explored identity crises, the difficulty of letting go, the struggle to make art, and the absurdities of everyday living. Here are our favorites.

Recently, there have been loads of headlines about all the shows and movies being pulled from HBO Max. When HBO Max launched in 2020, it promised a robust library of content from the Warner Bros. vault to entice subscribers to become early adopters. One of the big sells was the release of the 4-hour cut of Zack Snyder’s Justice League. Fans had been craving that version of the movie since the theatrical made its way to the big screen. Since the studio had so much content to choose from over its nearly one-hundred-year history, it could easily offer subscribers a lot of content to choose from for one low price.
It seemed to work. HBO Max took off really well once it debuted. Fans flocked to the service for its original content. Comics fans waited for the new cut of Justice League but could sustain themselves on original...

Coming off the success of his decade defining Cartoon Network series, Regular Show, J.G. Quintel has once again struck animated comedy gold with his more adult-oriented series, Close Enough, on HBO Max. Fans of Quintel's original series are finding that his current project not only ups the ante with its chaotic and surreal humor, but has also introduced them to characters that are just as lovable and easy to root for.
The show's main characters are not only relatable in several ways, but they all manage to be incredibly likable even with their personal flaws. But how many of their positive qualities manage to outweigh their flaws and vice versa? And upon closer examination of both, where to they rank against each other in terms of how likable they really are?...

After the slacker antics of Mordecai and Rigby in the Emmy-winning “Regular Show,” J.G. Quintel embraces more adult misadventures in the animated sitcom, “Close Enough,” on HBO Max, while still maintaining his penchant for surrealism.

The goal of any new streaming service worth its salt is consolidation. We’ve got a lot of major entertainment conglomerates now and each one of them needs a streaming home to consolidate its content on. With that in mind, WarnerMedia’s HBO Max is undoubtedly the biggest streaming release since Disney+ last year.
When AT&T acquired Time Warner and all its holdings in 2016, the newly-branded WarnerMedia subsidiary needed a place to house thousands of Warner movies, and other series, films, and documentaries from Warner-branded studios like CNN, TNT, TBS, The CW, Adult Swim, and much more. Enter HBO Max. Though HBO Max is named after Warner’s original premier streaming and cable entity in HBO, this is much more than just an “upgraded” version of HBO. HBO Max is the juggernaut WarnerMedia streaming service AT&T promised.

WarnerMedia finally announced exactly when its streaming service HBO Max will be available for potential subscribers.
HBO Max will hit the market on May 27, the company announced Tuesday. The offering will cost $14.99, the same price as an HBO-only subscription. The price makes HBO Max among the most expensive services, when compared to Netflix, Hulu and fellow newer entrants like Peacock, Quibi, Apple TV+ and Disney+.
The service will be free of charge to AT&T and Charter customers who already subscribe to HBO either through a pay-tv subscription or digital via HBO Now. Those who subscribe to AT&T’s highest-tier wireless, video and internet plans will also have HBO Max included. Additionally, all other AT&T customers will get anywhere between one and 12 months free, depending on their plan.
An ad-supported version of HBO Max will launch in 2021.
