The penultimate episode of The Walking Dead season 4 titled “Dead Weight,” continues The Governor’s mini arc away from Rick and company. With just one episode left in the season Rick and Kate invite Sound On Sight Games Editor Pat Bellavance to discuss the season so far, and speculate on where it’s headed.

With the (wider) release of Abdellatif Kekiche’s widely-discussed Blue Is the Warmest Colour (aka La Vie d’Adéle), Ricky, Josh and Simon thought it a good time for a roundup of recent, acclaimed fare that touches on Lgbtq issues and depictions. First up is Alain Guiraudie’s Stranger by the Lake, a noirish thriller that takes place entirely within the open confines of a gay cruising beach; second is the aforementioned Blue; and last (and – spoiler alert! – least), comes Jean-Marc Vallée’s Dallas Buyers Club, which ultimately prompts us to recommend a completely different film, though to find out which one, you’ll just have to listen ’till the bitter end.

Lykke Li – “I Follow Rivers (The Magician Remix)”
Mark Bolan and T.Rex – “Life is Strange”

Toronto folk artist Tony Dekker and his Great Lake Swimmers made a name for themselves recording songs laden with natural imagery in odd locations. Their previous album, 2009’s Lost Souls, was recorded on an archipelago of islands straddling the U.S.-Canadian border. But for their fifth album in just shy of a decade, Great Lake Swimmers finally settled into a studio, and the result is their most mature and polished LP to date.

We've been known to enjoy some Canadian indie-rock in these parts, so the new compilation Too Cool To Live Too Smart To Die is right up our alley. The album features members of Arcade Fire, Broken Social Scene, and The Constantines, along with groups like Great Lake Swimmers and Hidden Cameras covering artists from the "golden age" of the country's indie scene. (The album is a companion piece to the 2011 book Have Not Been The Same: The CanRock Renaissance 1985-1995, which is sort of like the Canadian version of Michael Azerad's Our Band Could Be Your ...

In celebration of the Parks Canada centennial this stunning collaboration of Canada’s elite in filmmaking and music combine to create a visionary glimpse into the unique terrains of Canada’s national parks. Spanning our country, the diversity of landscape is showcased through the exquisite portrayal of time and memory and by the exceptional scores produced by the equally diverse roster of Canadian musicians. The film episodes serve as an ode to the terrains that give Canada it’s identity, and celebrate how as a country we can showcase our beauty and talents, but also make evident that with change of weather and life needs to be change of action and perception.
The films, chunked into episodes for each park, encapsulate a microcosm of sound, stopping the idea of filmmaking to allow the effortless landscapes to reveal themselves and accentuate the music of nature, whether it be silence, animal calls,...

So, you haven’t had your Monthly Music fill in what, two months now! How does it feel? Did anyone go to Canadian Music Week?
This month I’ve worked up a list for you that is perfect for your spring cleaning. From psychedelic rock to funk and pop, you’ll be moving and grooving straight into May. While some of us are cramming work and exams in to the last moments of the school year, others might be looking forlornly out of their window at the rain, waiting for something new to come along. Another great thing about this time of year is that concert season is kicking into high gear – bands are stretching their hibernated legs out and running to and from Toronto, so keep your eyes peeled and your ears close to the soundboard (not really)!
Three Toronto bands you should know:
Zeus – This band has been all over the place lately,...

My column for this month is a special edition in honour of the upcoming Canadian Music Week: a five-day festival showcasing great Canadian music acts as well as conferences, lectures, award shows and films. It’s going to be a wild ride, and I want to show you which events will make you lean forward, flail your arms and smile.
Cmw runs March 10-14, with events during the days and concerts/films in the evenings.
Canadian Music Week (and Fest – the music portion) require that you purchase passes to attend events (obviously). You can purchase weekly or daily passes. For more information, go here. However, if you want to go to just one concert, tickets can be purchased here.
This is the third part in a trio of articles in preparation for Cmw. Today, we tackle the heavy conference schedule.
So, the TuneUp Conference seems to be the one with the most potential this year.
