The BBC has revealed more details about this year’s Comic Relief telethon, which will be broadcast on 15th March on BBC One.
Comic Relief launched in 1985 with a telethon that has since become embedded in British culture. Known as Red Nose Day, on account of the red noses sold as part of the appeal, over the years this has led to many classic comic moments, from The Young Ones singing Livin’ Doll with Cliff Richard, to Johnny Depp and Sting appearing in The Vicar Of Dibley, to Billy Connolly running naked through Trafalgar Square and Mr Bean infiltrating both Blind Date, and a Torvill and Dean dance routine.
Lenny Henry, who co-founded Comic Relief with Richard Curtis, recently revealed that he will be stepping down as host after this year’s telethon. Henry said of his decision that “when we first started Comic Relief back in 1985, I never dreamed...

Former “Love Island” presenter Laura Whitmore is tackling some controversial issues in her new show for U.K. streamer Itvx.
The three-part series “Laura Whitmore Investigates” sees Whitmore travel within the U.K., Europe and the U.S. In one episode, Whitmore investigates toxic masculinity with a focus on the subculture of involuntary celibates, or incels, a male-dominated, misogynistic online world where alienated males who struggle to engage with women share their anti-female mindsets, developing communities around their resentment.
Another episode explores how changing attitudes to sex in Britain have seen Bdsm become a multi-billion industry with more and more people experimenting, particularly with the act of choking during sex. The episode examines the influence of pornography as well as looking into the rise of the so-called “50 Shades” defense, whereby men accused of murdering their sexual partner claim the death was caused by rough sex that went wrong.

New bombshells have entered the villa.
Season 10 of “Love Island,” which kicked off on Monday night, will again see contestants competing for love in Mallorca, Spain where they’ll be joined by new host Maya Jama who took over from Laura Whitmore for Season 9 last year. The initial group of Islanders include Ruchee Gurung, Ella Thomas, Catherine Agbaje, Jess Harding, Molly Marsh, André Furtado, Mitchel Taylor, Tyrique Hyde, George Fensom and Mehdi Edno.
Producers are evidently trying to freshen up the format, with a couple of major twists already thrown in to the Season 10 premiere. Unlike in past seasons where female contestants entered the villa first and then selected the men they wanted to couple up with later on in the episode, this summer’s show had both men...

Controversial podcast host Joe Rogan is once again receiving backlash, this time for comments that critics have labelled “antisemitic”.
The Joe Rogan Experience host was discussing US Representative Ilhan Omar with his guests, Breaking Points co-hosts Krystal Ball and Saagar Enjeti, during a recent episode when he made the offending statements.
Omar was recently removed from the Foreign Affairs Committee by Republicans over accusations that she is antisemitic.
In 2019, she tweeted that Republicans wanted to condemn her comments about Israel because “It’s all about the Benjamins, baby”, a reference to Benjamin Franklin being on 100 bills. She later apologised for her comments.
“That’s not an antisemitic comment, I don’t think that is. Benjamins are money,” Rogan said on his podcast.
He continued: “The idea that Jewish people are not into money is ridiculous. That’s like saying Italians aren’t into pizza. It’s f***ing stupid.”

The Advertising Standards Authority (Asa) has banned social media posts from Laura Whitmore promoting an alcohol brand for being inappropriately targeted.
In July, the former Love Island host shared a post on Instagram and TikTok of her dancing while drinking peppermint tea, water and beer.
Whitmore then drank a beverage from drinks brand The Muff Liquor Company – of which she is an investor – and danced energetically.
The hashtag “#makemineamuff” featured in both the video and caption, the latter reading: “If drinks were dance moves muffliquorco #muffboss #irishowned.”
A complaint was made by a social media user who knew that Whitmore had invested in the company. They questioned whether the ads were obviously identifiable as marketing communications, and were inappropriately targeted because they featured alcoholic drinks, as they implied alcohol could improve your mood and enhance confidence.

Cheryl is still famous enough not to need a surname. On the poster for 2:22 A Ghost Story, the spooky hit play in which the singer formerly known as Tweedy, Cole and Fernandez-Versini is about to make her West End debut, she is billed simply and definitively as “Cheryl”. The 39-year-old has been using the mononym for so long now – since her 2012 solo hit “Call My Name” – that she didn’t even think about it until she saw her name on the Lyric Theatre’s marquee. “I was like, I guess that’s what it is then,” she says in the warm Geordie accent familiar from her judge’s critiques on The X Factor.

But, it’s not all change – as usual, there are a selection of hopeful romantics who join the show throughout the season. Nicknamed “bombshells”, these later arrivals always bring an additional level of excitement to proceedings by mixing up the couple dynamics.

Love Island viewers pointed out a specific music choice during Wednesday’s (18 January) episode.
Season nine of the popular dating show kicked off in South Africa on Monday (16 January).
Maya Jama is the new host, succeeding Laura Whitmore who left the show last summer.
Jama’s presenting skills have been praised, with The Independent’s reviewer Elise Bell calling her “a true star”.
However, viewers have been quick to share their reactions to the choice to play an extended cut of a Stormzy song during the latest edition of the programme.
Two new bombshells, David and Zara, made their debut and were paired with Tanya and Ron for their first dates.
As the potential pairings got acquainted, Stormzy’s 2022 track “Hide and Seek” played in the background.
Although this selection may seem innocuous to many, some noted the fact that Stormzy and Jama were in a relationship from 2015 to 2019. As well as this,...

It might be cold here in the UK, but Love Island is officially back with a new cohort of singles travelling to South Africa for a winter of fun.
The ITV2 dating show returned on Monday night (16 January) for its first winter edition since the pre-pandemic 2020 series.
Taking over hosting duties from Laura Whitmore was Maya Jama who made quite the impression on viewers in her debut.
The first episode introduced this year’s initial line-up of islanders – including Will, a TikTok-famous farmer, Olivia, a ring girl and actor, and Ron, the show’s first partially sighted contestant.
With the girls getting first pick, the 10 islanders were eventually paired off into five couples – but it’s still early days and more than a few have already set their sights on someone new.
Monday’s episode (16 January) also came with a twist.

Do you remember 2020? No, not that bit. The part about eight weeks before the global pandemic fully kicked in, when 11 outrageously beautiful single people decamped their lives in the hope of falling in love in a remote villa in South Africa. You don’t? Neither do I. After a lacklustre initial outing that featured the forgettable final winners Paige Thurley and Finley Tapp, a rebooted winterLove Island hopes to once again capture the nation’s attention with a new cohort of sunkissed islanders, while back home, normal, less attractive Britons face the drudgery of January. It therefore feels like an auspicious start for this series to begin on Blue Monday, but then again the producers behind ITV2’s runaway smash hit have never been ones for subtlety.
So what’s new this time? An updated McMansion and, of course, the arrival of Maya Jama as Love Island’s new First Lady.

Frustrated Love Island viewers have called on ITV to “fix” its servers after the network experienced multiple glitches during the season nine premiere.
On Monday (16 January), millions tuned in to the debut episode of the 2023 winter edition of the British reality dating series.
However, midway through the broadcast, the screen went black on multiple occasions, even once flashing green, leaving many viewers confused and annoyed.
“Every time Love Island glitches, I keep thinking my TV is broken,” one viewer tweeted, with a second questioning: “What’s up with this glitch?”
A third wrote: “ITV did someone forget to pay the wifi bill? This is Ghetto. Sort it out.”
“Nahhhh ITV Fix Your Servers,” another said.
Another commented: “I feel like I’m watching an illegal stream.”

Love Island is back for another winter installment – and that means a departure from its usual Mallorcan setting.
Instead, the hit ITV2 reality series has moved its set up to South Africa for the coming weeks.
Here’s everything you need to know about the new Love Island villa...
Where is the villa?
The holiday destination can be found in Franschhoek, near Cape Town.
The villa itself sits on the 25-acre estate of Ludus Magnus, and overlooks the Franschhoek valley and nearby mountains.
A number of luxury hotels are situated in the surrounding area, and the region is known for the production of fine wines.
What is in the villa?
As with the previous villa, this luxury compound features a large swimming pool at its centre, with an exterior kitchen area joined adjacently.
The villa also includes a gym, and the ever-popular “hideaway” room – featuring a sign that reads “Get Sexy” hanging above the bed.

The announcement, in October, that Maya Jama would be the new host of Love Island was met with elation from fans across the country.
“This is Perfect,” gushed one commenter. “They couldn’t have hired someone better!!!!!!” buzzed another. Many joked that Jama is so gorgeous, the ITV2 reality show’s contestants would want to dump their partners for her.
But the new job probably didn’t come as a huge surprise to the woman whose mother has videos of her, at the age of six, declaring she would be on TV one day.
Jama, now 28, has always been determined. In interviews, she’s variously described her teenage self as “fearless” and being “tunnel-vision focused”.
But back then, life was not without its complications.
Jama was born in Bristol, to a Swedish mother and Somali father, and spent many of her weekends up until the age of 10 visiting her father in prison.

New Love Island host Maya Jama has called for a “nans and grandads” version of the series to be made.
The hit ITV reality show – which returns to screens in a matter of days – follows a group of singletons searching for love while staying at a luxury Spanish villa.
Contestants are typically in their 20s, with some entering the villa as young as 18 or 19. The oldest contestant in the show’s history was 31.
On Friday’s (6 January) episode of This Morning, Davina McCall suggested she was keen to see a more middle-aged demographic on the series.
“I think it should be all ages,” Jama said during a later appearance on the show.
“Get them all in, get the nans and grandads… maybe next time.”
Jama also gave Love Island fans some indication of what to expect for the new winter instalment, which begins this month.
“I literally go tomorrow,” she said.

Put away the thermals and dust off the fake tan – Love Island is back to blow away those winter blues.
Less than half a year after the 2022 series came to an end in Mallorca, the ITV2 dating show is returning for a winter edition.
A winter series of Love Island hasn’t aired since 2020, when Paige Turley and Finn Tapp found romance in the South African villa.
However, this year, a new bunch of singles will be jetting off in hope of getting some off-season sun and maybe, dare we say it, some love.
It’s not just the time of year that sets this series of Love Island apart. The show will have a brand new host, while new protocols are in place to protect the contestants.

Love Island contestants will have their social media accounts taken away for the duration of the upcoming winter season and receive “guidance and training around mutually respectful behavior in relationships” following thousands of complaints earlier this year.
For the first time in the show’s history, the ninth winter season will oblige the contestants to pause all activity on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram and nothing will be published on their behalf.
Ordinarily, Islanders’ accounts are overseen by friends, relatives or PR professionals during their time in the villa, in order to drum up support and build up their brand.
“The bold decision to pause Islanders’ social media activity during the new series is testament to ITV’s serious intent, especially as this input provides both a benefit to the appeal of the programme and a potential source of mental health problems,” said Dr Matthew Gould, a Psychologist who consults on the Lifted Entertainment show.

Maya Jama will host the next season of the hit ITV dating show, after Laura Whitmore announced she was stepping down after two years in the role.
“I did get offered,” CülcüloÄ.lu said in an interview with PopSugar. “I would’ve loved to do it, but I can’t at the minute because of how busy I am. And I said I’m not ready for it.”
The 28-year-old – who won the 2022 series alongside partner Davide Sanclimenti – said she felt she lacked the necessary experience and would want “proper training” before she took the role on.
“I’ve done presenting before, but not to the level of Laura,” she said.

Ant and Dec have confirmed the reason they were forced to pull out of hosting duties for the new spinoff of Britain’s Got Talent.
The British duo were originally expected to present the new ITV talent show, Britain’s Got Talent: The Ultimate Magician.
However, a spokesperson for the series told MailOnline on Wednesday (12 October) that the two were “unable to film” after having become “unwell”.
Instead, they have been replaced by magician Stephen Mulhern.
A representative for the pair later informed The Sun that “Ant and Dec have tested for Covid and unfortunately have both tested positive” and “will be postponing work commitments whilst they recover”.
This also means that Ant McPartlin, 47, and Dec Donnelly, 46, will no longer be in attendance at Britain’s 27th National Television Awards on Thursday (13 October).
Up against Alison Hammond, Bradley Walsh and Graham Norton, the duo are, once again, in the running for the TV presenter award,...

“Love Island” has found its new host in broadcaster Maya Jama.
Jama, who has presented “Glow Up: Britain’s Next Make-Up Star” and used to anchor a show for BBC Radio 1, will take over “Love Island” hosting duties early next year when the series returns for its winter edition, set in South Africa. It will be the ninth series of the show.
Previous host Laura Whitmore stepped down earlier this year to pursue other projects. Fans had criticized Whitmore for her rare appearances on the reality dating show, although she also hosted spin-off “Love Island: Aftersun.”
Jama becomes the third “Love Island” host in three years after its original host, Caroline Flack, died by suicide in 2020 after she was charged with assaulting her partner.
“Love Island,” which is produced by ITV Studios-owned Lifted Entertainment, is a consistent hit for ITV, with over 269 million streams on ITV’s streaming platform ITV hub.
